Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1490: Chapter 1488: Triple Reception Plan

”What a coincidence, Professor Lanaya.”

In terms of understanding one’s superior, Fu Qian undoubtedly surpassed Lady Jia Keke by a long shot.

Although a person without organization or discipline, Fu Qian showed no disrespect to leadership upon his promotion.

Facing the unfriendly head of the Punishment Department, Fu Qian first greeted with a bright smile, then replicated Miss Liushuang’s earlier strategy.

”Have you had breakfast? Want to join us? It’s quite good.”

There’s a saying that to warm a cold heart, you must first warm their stomach—the soy milk seemed cold though.

Fu Qian put back the half-displayed drink.

This was something Miss Liushuang had specially helped order just now, and she seemed quite pleased to find it.

...

Hmph!

There’s another saying that one shouldn’t hit someone who’s smiling.

Although the invitation felt a bit forceful to break the tension, under the curious eyes of Miss Liushuang by the side, Lanaya finally huffed stiffly and really accepted the invitation to sit down.

”When did you arrive?”

However, even so, she obviously wasn’t that keen on eating breakfast, and after moving her gaze away from Fu Qian’s cup, she directly started confirming the whereabouts of this pillar of Heaven’s Commencement.

”At dawn.”

Fu Qian cooperatively confessed.

”...So, the first thing you did here was come to eat?”

It could be seen that today’s development, albeit unexpected, slightly eased Lanaya’s expression.

Nevertheless, the relaxingly infectious atmosphere in front of her, combined with recalling the other party’s actions, still made her feel the heat rise in her chest.

”Who said so? I’ve already hosted and completed an in-depth departmental collaboration, you know?”

Fu Qian’s response was righteous, and he showed no inclination to ask the leader who sat down what she wanted to eat, making the invitation appear insincere.

”Then you’ve really worked hard—though you might have to work a little harder.”

Departmental collaboration... naturally, Lanaya couldn’t actually go and verify such matters, considering that she’d never be a match in verbal sparring, she finally broached the main topic.

”During the research process, have you occasionally remembered anything you forgot? Slightly before you, I received two visitors... two visitors I didn’t even know of.”

”Oh? A pair of sisters?”

There was no surprise on Fu Qian’s face, as if he had expected it all along.

Veil and her companion indeed arrived quite quickly.

...

You’re not even pretending!

Staring intently at Fu Qian’s reaction, Lanaya confirmed that this was indeed his idea and couldn’t help clenching her fists.

Never around and arranging tasks remotely for others, am I your receptionist as well?

”They told me you sent them to find me, and about the trouble they encountered.”

After a bout of mental outcry, Lanaya finally managed to suppress her emotions somewhat.

”So, you planned the timing, right? Can you at least inform me next time?”

”No, actually.”

In the face of Professor Lanaya’s well-intended speculation, Fu Qian denied it with surprise on his face.

”I returned for other reasons.”

Damn it...

Lanaya’s emotions and even her aura surged once more, startling Jia Keke, who had just returned from a bathroom break, into a battle-ready stance.

However, after noticing that both Fu Qian and Ji Liushuang seemed calm, she finally managed to control herself and cautiously sat back down.

”This is Professor Lanaya.”

And Miss Liushuang, who had been quietly observing all along, spoke up timely, briefly interrupting the heated atmosphere.

...

”Hello.”

Representing the Academy’s image, Lanaya nodded slightly in response to Jia Keke’s courteous greeting following the introduction.

This was the first time she met this person from the Middle Tier, but from her manner of communicating with Ji Liushuang, it wasn’t hard to guess she was someone sent by the Ji Family.

”I was indeed at a loss on how to handle it, but now that you’ve returned, it’s your problem to deal with.”

Although every encounter seemed to max out her stress, upon calming down and considering the big picture, having this guy back wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

”I really can’t trust those scatterbrained folks at Heaven’s Commencement Institute to handle this.”

”What’s to fret about? Just hand it over to Cass to manage the allocation, wouldn’t that solve it?”

However, Fu Qian’s response seemed to reckon the other party was overemphasizing objective difficulties.

One must learn to integrate resources like he does to resolve issues.

”President Cass seemed to have left not long ago too.”

This time it was Miss Liushuang again who spoke up, providing an important piece of reference.

”I see...”

With a slight nod, the first thing Fu Qian remembered was when Cass had previously mentioned letting him encounter a spare disguise for travel someday.

It’s true that veterans are still striving, who knows where he’s off to cause mischief next.

”Two days ago.”

This statement from Ji Liushuang had already received Lanaya’s official confirmation.

And from the subtle undertone of Lanaya’s sneer, it wasn’t excluded they shared the same sentiment as him.

The image of our Heaven’s Commencement Institute remains the liveliest of all.

”Sorry, that was beyond my expectations. How about this...”

Fu Qian was always someone brave enough to acknowledge problems, promptly apologized, and even immediately provided a solution.

”If something similar occurs next time and Cass is absent too, look for Professor Lisa.”

...You’re audacious, but are you certain Lisa would bother with your affairs?

Professor Fu’s overly smooth new plan left Lanaya amazed again.

Yet before she could raise her doubts, the person turned to look at Ji Liushuang instead.

”Or this time, let Professor Lisa take charge directly. You accompany me to greet them in a moment.”

”Okay.”

Without any hesitation, Ji Liushuang agreed, showing no objections to the reception work.

Truly a research assistant.

At any rate, as the head of the Punishment Department, Lanaya had heard about this Swordsmanship Department genius’s recent work arrangements.

But seeing Ji Liushuang so naturally embrace the role still left her feeling somewhat complicated.

As for Professor Lisa, unaware that she had been volunteered to take on tasks, she was full of sympathy.

”Let’s head over after breakfast, where are they now?”

Sadly, the plethora of emotions hadn’t even been expressed before Professor Fu had already turned back to confirm details.

”They’re temporarily staying nearby; I asked them to wait for my news.”

Lanaya instinctively replied.

”Nearby here... or nearby the little shop you often visit?”

However, the other wasn’t satisfied with the vague response, furrowing his brows for a definitive answer.

This...

As if questioned about something unspeakable, Professor Lanaya’s eyes flickered, and her demeanor dipped into negative territory for the first time.

Hmph!

Fu Qian coldly snorted in his heart as the roles reversed.

Did you really think I didn’t know why you weren’t enthusiastic about breakfast?

While I get up early for academics, you were probably just leaving the tavern, right?
