Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Unclean Ecstasy (10)_1

“Jia Yi is dead, when did this happen?”

Fu Qian asked with an air of calm as he looked at the decidedly unfriendly expression on Lanaya’s face.

The figure who had stormed in, ready to administer justice, surely had serious business.

“Just earlier today, about half an hour after we submitted the explanation for the hearing.”

Hearing Fu Qian’s question seemed to slightly soften Lanaya’s demeanor, but her steady tone still carried a hidden threat.

“The Academy just received the notification, the Night Watchman is taking it very seriously, hoping we will cooperate with the investigation.”

...“And right after getting the notification, you came to me.”

Fu Qian had an expression that said he completely understood.

“I’ve been listed as the prime suspect, haven’t I?”

“Isn’t that obvious?”

Lanaya gave him a disdainful glare, clearly annoyed.

“Jia Yi just reported you last night, and today he’s dead, not to mention the previous grudge between you two, who else should be suspected if not you! By the way, you didn’t go out today, did you?”

“I did go out.”

Hmm!

It took Lanaya a few seconds to comprehend, and the next moment her voice rose sharply.

“You went out! What were you doing at a time like this?”

“I was idle, so I just went out for a stroll, even conducted a little observational study on spirit and flesh.”

Observational study…

Lanaya looked at Fu Qian with a speechless expression, her eyes filled with sorrow.

“You’re not going to tell me it was you who killed him, are you?”

“You’re thinking too much, why would I do such a boring thing?”

Fu Qian casually denied her suspicion with a nonchalant demeanor.

“Boring? I thought you were the type to seek revenge!”

“On the contrary, strictly speaking, I’ve always been open-minded and devoid of any vengeful thoughts.”

“Are you sure?”

Lanaya looked as if she had seen an alien.

“It’s plainly obvious, what’s there to doubt?”

Fu Qian remained utterly composed.

“Most people aren’t worth my vengeance because they bring no emotional response.”

This was not self-aggrandizement; while many heroes have perished by his hand, he was a reasonable and confident person—why would he seek validation through thoughtless slaughter?

…

Lanaya fell silent for a full minute after Fu Qian’s response.

The instant she received the message, her first reaction was alarm, suspecting that this problematic character had caused trouble again.

But the current Fu Qian, although just sitting there spouting nonsense with a straight face, possessed an inexplicable persuasiveness that made one involuntarily inclined to believe him.

“If it wasn’t you, then good. Jia Yi might have been annoying but didn’t deserve to die. If it really was you—”

“You’d certainly handle it by the book, wouldn’t you? Don’t worry, you won’t have that dilemma on your hands.”

Fu Qian glanced at her.

“You know it.”

Lanaya took a deep breath. Just about to say something more, her phone rang.

After listening for a few seconds, she responded affirmatively and hung up, then looked at Fu Qian.

“Let’s go, guilty or not, you’ll have to come with me now.”

“Understood.”

Fu Qian showed no objection.

If not for this morning’s hearing, perhaps Lanaya might have been able to mediate somewhat.

The current situation, though, was beyond her control.

…

“Professor Lanaya, you’ve arrived.”

Under the guidance of Lanaya, the two proceeded and soon reached their destination—the office of the Swordsmanship Department.

Upon seeing the two enter, Li Weixuan greeted them with a steely expression.

“Professor Fu, I appreciate you taking the time to come here.”

“It’s no trouble at all.”

It didn’t surprise Fu Qian that Li Weixuan personally inquired. Perhaps it was not his concern initially, but since he had attended the morning’s hearing, it was only natural for him to step in and take charge now.

That’s precisely why leaders hesitate to sign off on things indiscriminately.

While thinking this, Fu Qian surveyed the office before him.

There’s an old saying about fear of comparison, and while the office Heaven’s Commencement Institute had provided for him was quite decent, it seemed somewhat inadequate compared to the Swordsmanship Department Head’s office.

However, Li Weixuan himself was quite unassuming, with few decorations in the room, making it seem very spacious.

And at this moment, across from Li Weixuan, there was another person sitting, roughly the same age as him.

Compared to the elaborately dressed Li Weixuan, this man was dressed much more casually and was squinting his eyes, staring coldly this way.

“I am Yuan Fang.”

Seeing Fu Qian look over, Yuan Fang introduced himself before Li Weixuan could.

“A member of the Yuan Clan?”

Fu Qian asked thoughtfully.

“No, a Night Watchman.”

Yuan Fang shook his head with a very serious tone.

“I was indeed born into the Yuan Clan, but rest assured, as a Night Watchman, my actions will not be influenced by any personal emotions.”

Understood!

Fu Qian nodded, taking his words at face value.

It wasn’t so much a trust in his character, but rather that in the face of an unresolved situation, the Yuan Clan wouldn’t confront the Academy head-on over a former laborer.

“Yuan Fang is an old friend of mine. He reached out to me immediately because of this incident,” Li Weixuan said, gesturing for Professor Lanaya to sit down with Fu Qian.

“Please be assured, Professor Fu, I’ve already spoken with him, and I can guarantee that this matter will be handled fairly.”

Though he spoke calmly, Li Weixuan’s words carried an inherent authority.

An old acquaintance of Li Weixuan? His strength was indeed substantial, almost at Fourth Phase; within the Night Watchmen, he must be more than a nobody.

Fu Qian nodded and took a seat with ease.

“Professor Fu, I believe Professor Lanaya has already briefed you on the situation. There are a few questions I need to confirm with you.”

Yuan Fang, a man of action, began as soon as Fu Qian sat down.

“Go ahead.”

“Did you leave the Academy today?”

“I did.”

…

Yuan Fang exchanged a glance with Li Weixuan.

“When?”

“Not too long ago.”

“Then we have a problem,” Yuan Fang said, deep in thought.

“Although in my view, such a crude framing tactic is full of flaws, without an alibi, we have no choice but to consider you a suspect.”

“However, I also know that even if you were angered by Jia Yi’s actions, and wanted to kill him, you wouldn’t be in such a rush; such haste would actually appear abnormal.”

“Not necessarily, I might do just the opposite to lessen suspicion.”

Unexpectedly, Fu Qian analyzed earnestly.

…

Yuan Fang couldn’t help but take a long look at Fu Qian.

“Before meeting you, I did entertain such speculation, but after seeing you, I felt that you would scorn such actions.”

“Flattered by the compliment, but isn’t there a chance that contemplating such a possibility was part of my plan?”

…

“So you see, feelings are unreliable.”

Looking at a speechless Yuan Fang, Fu Qian wore a smile.

“Evidence is what matters. Take me to the murder scene, please.”
