While Everyone Panicked, I Upgraded My Raft

Chapter 156: Chapter 145: Revealing the Abyssal Sea Serpent’s Health Bar

On Rowan Rhodes’s end, she did put items up for sale from time to time, though on an irregular schedule. She knew very well that only by doing this could these resources be delivered into the hands of the players who truly needed them. Only players who lacked basic resources would spend their time constantly waiting for items to drop at unpredictable times.

Amidst such busyness, time flew by. At 4:00 PM, Rowan Rhodes’s raft arrived at Void Isle. This wave exactly coincided with the attack time of the mutated marine creatures.

When Rowan Rhodes’s raft stopped, not just six Abyssal Sea Serpents, but countless mutated marine creatures immediately swarmed over. In an instant, she was surrounded by a dense cluster of red dots of various shades.

Rowan Rhodes actually considered going toe-to-toe with the Abyssal Sea Serpents. After all, the raft had already docked at the beach of Void Isle. By docking the raft on Void Isle, the surroundings were now land. To a certain extent, the Abyssal Sea Serpents would lose their aquatic advantage. Away from the ocean, their combat power would be impaired.

Moreover, after 6:00 PM, when the final wave of attacks from these mutated marine creatures concluded, they would only wander around the raft. If they tried to attack the raft during non-combat hours, their strength would suffer a certain degree of weakening. The Abyssal Sea Serpents were likely no exception. This would result in a double debuff. Perhaps there really was a chance to kill them.

The rewards for killing an Abyssal Octopus were considerable. Presumably, slaying the Abyssal Sea Serpents would be just as lucrative! Even if she failed, it wouldn’t matter; she wouldn’t lose much anyway.

Having made up her mind, Rowan Rhodes began preparing her Equipment, medicine, weapons, and other supplies.

The burning bottle remained her top choice. Yesterday’s battles had nearly depleted her accumulated stock of burning bottles. Since she had to fight today, she needed to replenish them. Not just replenish them—the more, the better.

As previously mentioned, there were three sources of gunpowder. She had always used the first method, directly utilizing the mucus dropped from killing pufferfish. Now that she had nearly run out of mucus, she could only resort to the third method: crafting it herself.

The key material required was flint, which she had conveniently acquired a lot of on Glimmerstone Isle. Stone, charcoal, and flint.

Speaking of which, if she had a Forging Platform now, she could simply throw the materials into the Forging Platform to produce gunpowder. But a Forging Platform required a Level 9 Raft, and she still needed some time before she could upgrade!

With this in mind, Rowan Rhodes began crafting gunpowder using these three materials. Once crafted, she threw it into the Workbench along with other materials, successfully producing burning bottles. Rowan Rhodes thus buried herself in crafting.

In a flash, two hours passed, and it was 6:00 PM. Sure enough, as soon as six o’clock hit, many mutated marine creatures retreated from the raft, keeping a certain distance. The Abyssal Sea Serpents were no exception.

However, compared to the other mutated marine creatures, the Abyssal Sea Serpents were relentless; they directly surrounded Rowan Rhodes’s raft, refusing to give up on her. Rowan Rhodes adjusted the direction of the raft, attached the Sled used during the previous extreme cold disaster, and drove the raft straight onto the island.

After landing on the island, Rowan Rhodes cast her gaze toward the red dots on the radar representing the Abyssal Sea Serpents. They followed her movements.

Having confirmed this, Rowan Rhodes put on her Anti-toxic Equipment, donned her Mask and headlamp, and after wrapping herself up securely, climbed up to the Watchtower.

Up in the Watchtower, she was still surrounded by a circle of glass. Rowan Rhodes couldn’t see the scene outside. The lingering toxic fog still engulfed the surroundings, leaving nothing but pitch blackness. However, the headlamp on her head pierced through the darkness, casting light outside.

With a loud BANG, Rowan Rhodes saw the Abyssal Sea Serpents approaching. One by one, snake heads appeared in her field of vision.

Glancing around, she recognized the two from yesterday. Perhaps because they had eaten players, they had grown slightly larger. What remained consistent was that they all stared at Rowan Rhodes, drooling.

In an instant, they began frantically attacking the Watchtower. All day long, no matter how they attacked, they hadn’t seen a trace of Rowan Rhodes. Now that they saw her, by Nature, they were unwilling to let her go.

Rowan Rhodes was left speechless.

As soon as the six Abyssal Sea Serpents attacked, the damage rate of the Watchtower immediately hit 60%. If they attacked again, it probably wouldn’t hold up. Without a second thought, Rowan Rhodes retreated downward.

Sure enough, the very next moment, just as she returned to the interior of the raft, not only was the defensive power of the Watchtower completely destroyed, but its entire physical structure was completely bitten off. At the same time, the raft continued to suffer the Abyssal Sea Serpents’ onslaught.

Once the raft was attacked, Rowan Rhodes immediately noticed the difference. The damage the raft sustained was drastically reduced by more than half compared to when it was in the ocean. This meant that right now, the Abyssal Sea Serpents’ strength was reduced to only twenty or thirty percent of its original level.

They even disengaged immediately after striking the raft. They didn’t wrap their entire bodies around the raft like they had before. This implied that the rules indeed existed, and the creatures still had to abide by them. If they didn’t, they would have to pay a certain price.

Having confirmed this, Rowan Rhodes let out a long sigh of relief. She then returned to the first floor.

As soon as she reached the first floor, she heard the HISSING sounds of the sea serpents following her there, tracking her every movement. It had to be said, this keen detection of their prey’s movements made Rowan Rhodes feel slightly uneasy.

This also verified one thing: she shouldn’t land on the island while the viral disaster was still active. Unless it was the next day, when the viral disaster officially ended. Because once the viral disaster concluded, the Abyssal Sea Serpents—byproducts of this very disaster—would definitely disappear along with it.

Six hours. These six hours could be a time for her to rest, or it could be spent battling the Abyssal Sea Serpents. As the saying went, rather than waiting, it was better to try.

With everything prepared, Rowan Rhodes took out some seafood and Fish Meat. Using a net to bind the seafood and Fish Meat together, she stuffed burning bottles into the center of the bundle.

Approaching a window, she temporarily built a sealed space for herself around it. Then, drawing her spear, she extended the bundle of seafood, Fish Meat, and burning bottles out through the glass window.

The moment it was pushed out, the spear was clamped between jaws. By the time Rowan Rhodes managed to forcefully yank the spear back, the lump of seafood and Fish Meat had already disappeared. Following closely was the muffled BOOM of a small explosion.

Rowan Rhodes subconsciously looked outside, and to her surprise, she actually saw a health bar. The moment she saw the health bar, her eyes lit up. This trick actually worked!

She quickly proceeded to toss out a second bait. Only, this time, it was ineffective. The Abyssal Sea Serpent at this window refused to eat it.

Rowan Rhodes hurried to a different window. Similarly, it worked the first time, but failed the second time. In this manner, she repeatedly changed her position.

After feeding them who knows how many times, she finally managed to expose the health bars of all six Abyssal Sea Serpents. With their health bars revealed, it meant that she could now clearly pinpoint their exact locations.
