Chapter 1218: Chapter 1218: The Yongping Warehouse

Ye Luo moved with impressive speed and soon arrived at the frontline command center in Zhamu City.

”How are things?”

Ye Luo kicked open the command room door and asked loudly.

No one dared comment on Ye Luo’s behavior, for there was likely no one in the command center who didn’t recognize him.

When Lieutenant Colonel Li saw Ye Luo’s arrival, a huge weight seemed to lift from his heart.

These past few days had been agonizing for him, his unit had suffered severe losses, and they had been desperately hoping for Ye Luo to come to the rescue.

”General, you’ve finally arrived!”

Lieutenant Colonel Li said with immense excitement but then remembered to follow protocol, snapping to attention and saluting promptly.

Ye Luo, even as a junior general just holding a nominal position, didn’t take it seriously himself, so he casually waved his hand and immediately continued to ask, ”What’s the situation like now?”

”General, we’ve basically held the zombies at bay along Pingcheng Street...”

”That’s enough, I’m asking about the Special Security Bureau people, how long have they been trapped, and what’s their situation now?”

Ye Luo cut off Lieutenant Colonel Li once again.

Lieutenant Colonel Li hesitated for a moment but quickly caught on.

”Quick, pull up the surveillance feed from Yongping Warehouse immediately!”

Yongping Warehouse was where Mingyue and others were holding out.

The warehouse had a split layout, half parking garage and half storage space, and was sturdily built—the most important aspect was its location; it was surrounded by a wetland park on one side, a mountain on another, an under-construction factory on the third, and a major road on the last side, making the terrain very open and easily defensible.

Mingyue and her team had chosen to hold out there because of its geographical advantage.

The surveillance feed was brought up without delay.

From the footage, it was evident that Mingyue and her team had retreated to the seventh floor of the Yongping Warehouse, where they had blocked the stairwell with all sorts of miscellaneous goods to halt the zombies’ progress. However, this was ultimately not a solution as the zombies below would periodically launch assaults, retreating immediately after failing.

”General, Captain Mingyue, and her team have been trapped in the Yongping Warehouse since noon yesterday. Although we organized several rescue attempts, they all failed. There are more than a thousand zombies surrounding the warehouse, and it’s clear that they’re under some unified command, so they’re quite difficult to deal with...”

”Okay, I understand. Keep your focus on defense—I’m going to save them!”

Ye Luo turned around and headed straight outside. In reality, while watching the video, he had already sensed something peculiar. Logically speaking, if the zombies had kept attacking relentlessly, Mingyue and her team should have been overwhelmed by now. A glance at the situation in the lower floors of the warehouse confirmed it; initially, the zombies were attacking frenziedly but then they abruptly stopped their actions.

Ye Luo had an intuition that the zombies were waiting for him!

On the surface, Ye Luo’s guess seemed baseless, but intuition is intuition!

...

At the same time, in another part of Zhamu City, a group of figures cloaked in black robes was secretly gathering.

”Elder, the message has been confirmed, that Ye Luo has indeed arrived in Zhamu City!”

”Good, since he dares to come, this time we must eliminate him! The message from the Grand Elder indicates that the young man called Ye Luo possesses a special ability to counter our Corpse King Palace’s Death Qi, so we must eliminate him!”

”Hmph, this time we were lucky. Who would have thought that in this small Zhamu City training exercise, we would draw out a big fish like Special Security Bureau’s Mingyue? Mingyue, the little beauty, might lack other abilities, but she’s someone whom Ye Luo cares about. With Mingyue in our grasp, I don’t believe Ye Luo won’t come for her rescue. According to our intelligence, this Ye Luo is extremely protective of those close to him, especially women!”

The cloaked figures discussed among themselves, and without delving into whether their words were true or false, just the fact they could investigate Ye Luo so thoroughly in such a short time and even based on these details, set such a trap, one had to acknowledge that the Corpse King Palace was not to be underestimated!

But could just an Elder and a few dozen disciples truly take down Ye Luo?

...

Yongping Warehouse.

”Captain, I’m afraid we might not make it back this time.”

A member of the Special Security Bureau glanced at Mingyue and then at his teammates, speaking with a wry smile.

”Ha-ha, old iron, are you scared?”

Mingyue had yet to speak when a member of the Special Security Bureau next to her laughed and asked.

”Scared? When has old iron ever been scared? They’re just some zombies. However many come at us, I’ll take them down!”

”Ha-ha, good for you, old iron, that’s the spirit! What’s there to be afraid of? Since we’ve chosen this line of work, we should have long been prepared. So what if we die? If we do, it would be with honor; it would be worth it!”

One by one, the rest of the team gathered because they all knew in their hearts that their time was running short. Nearly a whole day had passed since they had last had a drop of water to drink—though, of course, this was the least of their concerns. The main problem was the drain on their strength.

To ordinary people, they were undeniably formidable, but they were still flesh and not made of iron. The continued high-intensity combat had worn them down both mentally and physically.

Though none of them explicitly said it, they all clearly understood that the zombies’ next wave of attack would likely be their last stand.

Mingyue remained silent throughout.

But looking at her team, her thoughts drifted to Ye Luo.

”What would you do if you were here? If you were here, could you lead us out?”

For some reason, Mingyue found herself desperately wishing that Ye Luo was by her side.

Revisiting her past interactions with Ye Luo brought a slight smile to Mingyue’s face.

That guy, he was a bit lascivious, a bit shameless, even a bit mischievous.

But his strength was beyond doubt!

The mission in Zhamu City was originally supposed to be led by Ye Luo, but unfortunately, no matter what, they couldn’t get in touch with him, so Mingyue had to come.

At first, no one expected these zombies to be so formidable. They had come with dozens of people, but now, only about a dozen were left, and most of them were injured.

Even Mingyue had bandages wrapped around her arm, already soaked through with blood.

Suddenly, a member guarding the corridor shouted, ”Captain, the zombies are coming up again!”

”Prepare for battle!”

Mingyue immediately put aside her wandering thoughts and along with her comrades, raced to the corridor.

Initially, they had been equipped with firearms, but the continuous fighting had long exhausted their ammunition.

Now, all they could do was face the zombies with melee weapons.
