After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad

Chapter 244: Chapter 243: The Mastermind of the Killing Game Succeeded

Asher looked back at me. ”Cece, do you hope it was me?”

”I don’t,” I said, shaking my head.

’No matter what the mastermind’s ultimate goal is, their methods are just too extreme.’

’Using such methods to deal with and harm others just to achieve their own goals... I don’t think they’re a completely ’good person’.’

Asher grabbed my hand, led me to hide behind a box truck, and took off his protective suit. ”If you don’t want it to be me, then it wasn’t me.”

I looked at him, confused. ”Then what if I hoped it was you?”

”Then I’ll find the person behind all this, take his place, and become the person you want me to be,” Asher said to me with great seriousness.

I gave a helpless smile. He looked a little silly when he was being serious.

But he had also cleverly answered my question and addressed my doubts.

Lucas Grant said Sebastian Lancaster was a man with high IQ but no EQ, but in my opinion... Asher was a man whose IQ and EQ were both terrifyingly high.

’It’s just... he used his IQ on other people, and all of his EQ for ’scheming’ when it came to me.’

Sighing, I walked up behind him resignedly.

I hugged him from behind and said, my voice heavy with exhaustion, ”I’m so tired. Carry me.”

Asher lifted me onto his back, a smile playing on his lips, and carried me away step by step.

”Sir.” I don’t know how long we walked. I fell asleep lying on Asher’s back.

When I woke up, Owen Foster had actually already driven over. Not only was Owen Foster there, but he’d also brought a lot of people with him. He must have known we were in an unsafe environment.

I looked at Asher in surprise. ”How did Assistant Foster get here so fast?”

”Sir was missing for so many days, and his last known location was here before the signal disappeared. I came over a long time ago and have been looking for you two,” Owen Foster explained.

”Felix Foster and the others... are they all okay?” I must have been truly exhausted, to the point of collapse.

These past few days, during the killing game in the abandoned building, I’d been running on almost nothing but adrenaline.

The fall down the stairs was already bad enough, and the hunger and lack of sleep left my body exceptionally weary.

”They’re all fine. Tim Zane was the most seriously injured, but he’ll live. Erin Whittaker was taken by people from The Genetics Organization, so she definitely won’t be killed. Madeline Quinn’s injuries aren’t serious,” Owen Foster reassured me. ”As for the others, they just have superficial wounds.”

I breathed a sigh of relief and drifted back into a groggy sleep.

In my dreams, I could feel Asher holding my hand.

He never let go.

’In truth, I knew the mastermind behind the killing game couldn’t be Asher. I was just afraid that it was.’

...

The next time I woke up, I was in a hospital in Meridia. In the next bed was a tearful Madeline Quinn, and sitting resentfully to the side was Julian Fletcher, who was glaring unfriendly at Asher.

”Cece!” Seeing that I was awake, Madeline Quinn cried out excitedly.

”Where am I...?” I frowned, a little confused. ’I just took a nap, so why am I in a hospital? Why does everyone look so worried?’

”Cece, you’re finally awake.” Madeline Quinn got out of her bed and hugged me tightly, crying.

”Where are Zeke Shaw and the others?” I patted Madeline Quinn on the back.

”Zeke Shaw went back to the police station. This case of ours has alerted the top brass. Thankfully, everyone is taking it very seriously...” Madeline Quinn whispered, hesitating as she looked at us. ”There are some things I can’t say much about, you know? But I mean, really big leaders have been alerted!”

I paused for a moment as understanding dawned on me. ’It seems inevitable that the mastermind’s scheme would attract such high-level attention from society.’

’It’s just that it hasn’t been made public yet, probably for fear of causing a social panic...’

’The higher-ups will definitely intervene. The people from The Genetics Organization must be in a complete panic by now.’

”Did I... sleep for a long time?” I asked, looking at Asher, who had immediately stood up to block Julian Fletcher.

”Half a month...” Julian Fletcher answered first, looking very worried about me.

”Thirteen days and eight hours,” Asher snorted, correcting Julian Fletcher.

Julian Fletcher gritted his teeth, looking like he wanted to eat Asher alive.

I nodded, stunned for a long moment. ”I was unconscious for that long? What did the doctors say?”

”The doctors said there was no reason. It might have been due to excessive shock or a concussion,” Madeline Quinn said, her voice full of fear as she hugged my arm tighter. ”You scared me to death, Cece.”

I felt dazed and numb, as if my body wasn’t under my own control.

’Excessive shock is unlikely, and a concussion wouldn’t make me sleep for this long...’

Asher’s eyes were also filled with wariness and fear as he looked at me. ’What is he afraid of?’

’It clearly wasn’t a fear of me not waking up. It was more like he was afraid I’d wake up and not recognize him. Afraid I’d lose my memory again?’

’This silly guy... How insecure can he be?’

’How afraid he is that I’ll fall in love with Julian Fletcher again...’

”Asher, my head hurts,” I said softly.

’I’ve heard that showing a bit of vulnerability to your significant other helps increase domestic bliss.’

”I’ll rub it for you.” Asher pulled me into his embrace and, right in front of Julian Fletcher, began massaging my temples.

”Stop with the PDA...” Madeline Quinn grumbled, her tone jealous. ”Cece, aren’t I your favorite person anymore? Weren’t you supposed to spend your life with me?”

I glanced at Madeline Quinn, my expression a little complicated. After a moment, I smiled. ”Aren’t you going to look for Zeke Shaw anymore?”

Madeline Quinn chuckled. ”He’s too busy right now...”

I smiled, but I wondered if it looked stiff. My body didn’t feel like it was under my control.

So numb...

This feeling is very uncomfortable.

”What... happened afterward?” ’After I fell unconscious?’

”I led the police to find you, but...” Julian Fletcher stepped forward worriedly, wanting to explain and show his concern.

Asher snorted, cutting him off. ”The police went to the abandoned building and found the bodies of those people, but... they didn’t find the bodies of Peach or Blake Young.”

I froze, looking up at him. Asher continued, ”The bodies of everyone who died were there, except for Peach’s and Blake Young’s. Oh, and the principal from that special school is still alive, but he’s gone insane. The police are questioning him, but they can’t get anything out of him.”

I fell silent and frowned. ’They didn’t find Peach’s or Blake Young’s bodies.’

”Where’s Felix Foster?” I looked around. ’Lucas Grant and Zeke Shaw can’t be here because of the case, but why isn’t Felix Foster here either?’

”He went back to school. His college entrance exams are coming up,” Asher explained.

I opened my mouth, but didn’t say what I was thinking. ”How is Tim Zane?”

”He’s still over there. His injuries are serious. He can only be transferred back after he moves from intensive care to a regular ward,” Julian Fletcher quickly chimed in.

Just to spite Asher.

Asher rolled his eyes.

”That’s good...” I nodded.

’As long as Tim Zane is alive.’

”After this hunting game, the mastermind of the serial murders probably won’t keep killing people, right...?” Madeline Quinn asked, a little scared.

”Do you guys remember the ’Clean Slate’ plan? The only people left alive on that list are Erin Whittaker and Tim Zane. Tim Zane barely escaped with his life, so his ’crimes’ weren’t punishable by death. My guess is... that only leaves Erin Whittaker, but she’s still valuable,” I said, looking at Julian Fletcher.

Julian Fletcher looked down nervously and said in a low voice, ”Cece... she’s one of Victor Quinn’s people. Victor Quinn is too cunning and extremely cautious... We have to keep her stable for now so we can learn more secrets and clues.”

I gave a cold laugh. ”Then we’ll have to see if Victor Quinn lets her live.”

’The killing game has already attracted a great deal of attention. Victor Quinn can barely protect himself now...’

’My guess is, he’s about to clean house.’
