After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad

Chapter 199: Chapter 198: It Will Be His Turn After Erin Whittaker’s Death

”...” I was dumbfounded.

I was shocked.

I looked at Peach, then at Asher.

’Can it really be like this?’

”Peach, he’s my husband.” I tried to change her mind.

But Peach just lowered her head and murmured, ”It’s not like we haven’t slept together before.”

My body stiffened. I thought I’d misheard and looked at Peach nervously. ”What did you say?”

”Asher and I have slept together,” Peach said very seriously.

I instinctively turned to look at Asher.

He remained vigilant, as if he knew all along that Peach would spout nonsense.

He clasped his hands and explained to me calmly, ”The way she’s using ’slept’ is descriptive, not active.”

”...” My brain short-circuited. ”Descriptive? Active?”

”Back at the orphanage, Charlie, she, and I would often sleep in the same bed. But it was just sleeping. That’s the descriptive sense.” Asher gritted his teeth. ”You and I sleeping together, having a baby—that’s the active sense.”

I took a deep breath, feeling pissed.

Peach, still looking dazed, kept muttering, ”He’s slept with Charlie, too. Cecilia Caldwell has also slept with Charlie.”

I raised a hand to my forehead. ’This woman’s words could scare someone to death.’

Asher was clearly angry now too. ”Just answer the question!”

Peach seemed very afraid of Asher. She lowered her head and said, looking aggrieved, ”I know.”

”That construction worker who lived in the building across the street, the one who jumped to his death—do you remember him?” I asked quietly.

Peach nodded seriously. ”I remember.”

”Then do you remember if anyone came looking for him before he killed himself?” I asked nervously.

Peach looked at me and shook her head. ”How would I remember that?”

I felt a pang of disappointment. ’Right, Peach is intellectually disabled. How could she remember people?’

”Are you stupid?” Peach tilted her head, walked out the door, and pointed at a security camera above it. ”I have a camera, you know. Asher installed it for me. He said if I’m in danger, I can shout at the camera and he’ll come save me.”

I froze for a second, looking at the camera, then back at Asher.

’So it’s true... He got in touch with Peach a long time ago. They’ve been in contact this whole time, and he even installed a hidden camera for her.’

Asher nervously lowered his head, as if trying to avoid my gaze.

’He put a camera on Peach’s door to protect her?’

’Then why didn’t he get her out of here? Why let her keep selling her body?’

’I just couldn’t figure it out.’

”The camera feed... you have it?” I asked in a low voice.

Asher nodded. ”If you want to check it, we can go back and look.”

I gritted my teeth and pinched Asher’s arm hard. ”Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

Asher gave me an aggrieved look. ”I thought... you were investigating Peach...”

After saying that, he seemed to falter for a moment, then quickly changed the subject. ”I thought you were here to help Lucas Grant survey the scene.”

”If there’s a camera, why would I bother asking her?” I said, practically through clenched teeth.

”Let’s go home, then.” Asher seemed to have a guilty conscience. He quickly grabbed my hand, eager to lead me away.

Peach tilted her head, staring at me blankly, and then suddenly smiled. ”Cece... is the murderer.”

Asher’s feet froze to the spot. His gaze turned so cold it was frightening.

He turned back to look at Peach.

Terrified, Peach backed away, wrapped her arms around her head, and crouched on the ground.

I also turned back in surprise. ”What... what did she just say?”

Asher shook his head. ”I didn’t hear clearly.”

Peach was still murmuring. ”Cece is the murderer...”

”Cece is the murderer...”

Actually, I had heard her.

Peach was saying that I was the murderer.

’Is she still blaming me for stealing Asher and getting Charlie killed?’

’But that fire wasn’t my fault.’

Sighing, I spoke quietly. ”Asher, why don’t you let Owen Foster take her away? She’s Charlie’s sister, after all.”

”She refuses.” Asher took my hand and led me away, telling me as we walked that Peach wouldn’t agree to it.

”This was her and Charlie’s home. She’s guarding it. She won’t leave. No one can make her go; she’d have a breakdown,” Asher explained in a low voice.

”But you can’t just let her do this kind of work,” I said, feeling it was a bit cruel.

”Everyone has their own choices and ways of surviving. She has her own choice, too.” Asher was impatient to get me away from there.

To get me far away from this place.

”AH! Help...”

Suddenly, a commotion erupted from the room next to Peach’s, followed by a girl’s desperate cries for help.

I froze, looking at Asher. ”Could she be in danger? Should we check?”

Asher kicked the door. ”What’s going on?”

Inside, a woman seemed to be desperately trying to open the door, but a man was cursing. ”Bitch, where do you think you’re running? Give me the money.”

Asher frowned. Just as he was about to lead me away, Peach rushed out and started pounding on the door. ”Don’t hit her! Don’t hit her!”

Seeing Peach crying and banging on the door, I couldn’t take it anymore and kicked it hard.

The iron door shuddered violently. One kick and the lock was bent out of shape.

When he saw I couldn’t get it open, Asher delivered a powerful kick, and the door flew open.

The man inside... wasn’t wearing any clothes.

Asher immediately covered my eyes.

The man cursed. ”What the fuck is wrong with you people? This is my wife.”

A woman covered in bruises crawled out from inside, crying as she hid behind Peach. ”Peach, save me.”

Peach frantically tried to comfort her. ”It’s okay, it’s okay now.”

Then, Peach mustered her courage and yelled at the man. ”Chase Carter, you bastard! You beat your wife, you’re not even human!”

My body went rigid. I pushed Asher’s hand away and looked at the man.

Chase Carter?

’He was one of the students from the orphanage, too...’

His number was after Erin Whittaker’s.

Which meant, after Erin Whittaker died, it would be Chase Carter’s turn.

This Chase Carter was also a key person under Zeke Shaw’s protection and surveillance.

’Such a coincidence?’

’This guy lives here, too?’

”He’s one of the people from the orphanage, right?” I whispered to Asher.

Asher stood frozen, his face a mask of fury and killing intent.

His hands were clenched into fists, his whole body trembling.

’He was seething with hatred...’

”Are you people sick in the head? I’m hitting my wife, what business is it of yours? You broke the door, you’re gonna pay for it!” The man pulled up his pants—he was wearing a food delivery uniform—and kept cursing, his mouth full of filth.

Asher went up and threw a punch, knocking the man to the ground before kicking him viciously in the stomach.

”Asher...” I didn’t stop him.

’Maybe he just needed to beat him up and let off some steam.’

’Besides, this scumbag looked like he was asking for it.’

”Does it hurt?” Asher’s voice was hoarse. He grabbed Chase Carter’s hair and slammed his head against the ground again. ”I asked you, does it hurt?”

When Asher was hitting someone... the aura around him was terrifying, yet impossible to look away from...

It was only in moments like this that he seemed to unleash his true nature, as vicious as someone who had crawled out of Hell.

”You psycho... it’s you.” Chase Carter’s eyes were swollen, but when he saw clearly that it was Asher, he laughed. ”Of course getting hit hurts...”

”Then you’d better enjoy it.” Asher kicked Chase Carter again.

Chase Carter curled up on the floor in pain, laughing maniacally. ”Oh, Asher... too bad that big fire didn’t burn you to death... Monsters like you and Charlie should never have existed.”

”Haha...” He was still laughing, trying to provoke Asher.

I don’t know if he provoked Asher, but he definitely provoked me.

A sharp pain shot through my head. I strode forward and kicked Chase Carter in the face. ”A piece of trash like you shouldn’t exist either. You deserve to die... Erin Whittaker is dead, and you’re next. You just wait...”
