Chapter 73: Chapter 65: Both Outcomes Indicate a Powerful Demon Beast in the Forest

Fang Xiu spoke to Kajimi as they walked.

Although he had never entered a Gate World before, Fang Xiu still remembered a lot of what his teacher had taught in class.

And that knowledge was more than enough for him to use now.

After all, when he first transmigrated to this world, he had been interested in everything about it.

His Talent wasn’t bad, and his memory was excellent.

This allowed him to remember a great many things.

He remembered his teacher explaining how to determine if treasure was hidden somewhere within a Gate World.

It could be judged by the surrounding environment.

However, that teacher hadn’t been an Awakened.

Many students had scoffed at his words.

They believed that only advice from an Awakened was truly useful.

But Fang Xiu was different.

At the time, he had only been in this world for a year.

Regardless of whether the teacher was an Awakened or not, Fang Xiu had listened to his words attentively.

And now, after finding two hidden treasures,

Fang Xiu felt that the experience his teacher had imparted back then was incredibly useful.

Now, he would apply that experience to see if he could find the treasure in this forest.

”These trees are growing very well, but look at the branches. Do you see how they’re all leaning in one direction?”

Fang Xiu said to Kajimi, glancing at a tree beside him.

Hearing this, Kajimi looked over, a little curious.

”It looks like you’re right,” Kajimi said.

All the trees were leaning in the same direction.

But...

”Trees naturally have some irregularities. Is there something wrong with that, Master?”

Kajimi asked, a bit confused.

The density, sparseness, and orientation of trees can vary. Normal trees can be like this too.

’It doesn’t seem like there’s anything wrong!’

”Yes, trees can be like that. But take a look. Do you see any difference between the trees along our path and those over there, not far away?”

Fang Xiu pointed into the distance.

”Hmm?”

Kajimi was puzzled.

Still, she walked in the other direction to get a look.

Then she froze. ”This... their branches are leaning in the opposite direction of the trees on our path!”

”Exactly!”

Fang Xiu nodded slightly. ”When I was falling from the sky earlier, I noticed these trees were a bit strange, but I didn’t think about it or observe them closely at the time.”

”Later, since we didn’t have a map, I remembered and took a closer look. These trees are like a path, guiding us!”

Fang Xiu smiled slightly. ”There’s no path on the ground, so it’s hard to tell, but the direction these trees are pointing is the path!”

”So that’s how it is. It’s just as you said, Master. Where there’s treasure, there’s always something unusual.”

Kajimi’s eyes filled with adoration.

She hadn’t noticed any of this.

After all, who would go around just looking at trees?

Her first instinct was naturally to check if there were any Demon Beasts around.

In truth, Fang Xiu had also noticed the difference in the trees while he was scanning for Demon Beasts.

”Then, Master, can we just fly along the path of the trees to find the treasure’s location?”

Kajimi wanted to fly there directly from the sky.

That way, they wouldn’t waste too much time.

But Fang Xiu shook his head. ”No need to fly. Let’s walk. I can’t be certain the treasure is at the very end of this line of trees. It might be in the middle, or somewhere else entirely.”

”Besides, I can’t be sure the treasure is definitely related to the reverse growth of these trees.”

Fang Xiu was simply applying what he had learned.

Whether it was accurate or not, he would only know after testing his theory.

”Yes, Master!”

Kajimi nodded.

She would follow Fang Xiu’s lead no matter what.

”Let’s go! Let’s go take a look.”

Fang Xiu didn’t say any more.

’After all, if we don’t end up finding any treasure, won’t I look like a complete fool?’

Then, Fang Xiu and Kajimi followed the trees that were growing in the opposite direction.

Along the way, Fang Xiu also had Kajimi check if the surrounding trees were all different from the ones on their path.

After all, if it was the other way around, it meant they were going in the wrong direction.

Fortunately, the path was straightforward.

”Kajimi, have you noticed anything else that’s strange?”

Fang Xiu suddenly asked.

”Huh?”

Kajimi was taken aback. She looked at the trees in front of her, then glanced up before shaking her head. ”Master, I haven’t seen anything else that’s strange!”

”I’m not talking about the trees. Don’t you think it’s a little too quiet around here?”

Fang Xiu said with a smile.

Hearing this, Kajimi paused, then nodded. ”You’re right. It seems like there isn’t a single Demon Beast in this entire forest!”

From the moment they entered the forest until now, not only had they not encountered a pack of Demon Beasts,

they hadn’t seen even a single ordinary one!

”Yes, that’s also very strange,”

Fang Xiu said with a slight nod.

”If a place has no Demon Beasts and is unusually quiet, there are three possibilities.”

Kajimi was quite knowledgeable about Demon Beasts.

”The first possibility is that this is a safe zone where no Demon Beasts can enter. But this clearly isn’t the case!”

After all, this was a forest inside a Gate World.

It was well-known that Gate Worlds were teeming with Demon Beasts. Forget a whole forest; even a small grove of trees could be hiding a Demon Beast.

But this forest before them was eerily quiet.

”The second possibility is that a powerful Demon Beast has appeared here, driving all the surrounding Demon Beasts away, so they don’t dare to linger.”

Kajimi continued.

Such a Demon Beast would have to be extremely powerful and have a strong, intimidating presence.

Otherwise, it would be impossible.

”As for the third possibility, it’s that all the Demon Beasts have gathered in one place.”

Kajimi said, ”But this situation, just like the second one, would require a powerful Demon Beast to gather all the others!”

”Right. So, excluding the first possibility, both the second and third possibilities indicate that a powerful Demon Beast exists here.”

Fang Xiu remained vigilant of his surroundings.

Regardless of whether it was the second or third scenario,

Fang Xiu knew there was definitely a powerful Demon Beast in this forest.

He wasn’t sure of its exact strength.

It could be the Level 30 Demon Beast that Yuan Heng and his group saw.

Or it could be an even more powerful entity.

After all, Yuan Heng’s group of three hadn’t entered the forest back then. They had merely seen the Level 30 Demon Beast from a distance and fled.

”If that Level 30 Demon Beast was one of those driven out of this forest, then the Demon Beast inside is even stronger!”

Fang Xiu felt this was a distinct possibility.

”Of course, it’s also possible that it was that same Level 30 Demon Beast. It might have been about to enter the forest just as Yuan Heng and his group happened upon it, and it then proceeded to drive out or gather all the other Demon Beasts.”

Fang Xiu analyzed the other possibility as well.

”You’re amazing, Master! Your analysis is so accurate!”

Kajimi realized it as soon as Fang Xiu finished speaking.

Fang Xiu’s analysis was logical and well-founded.

This meant they could basically confirm that the Demon Beast in the forest was either Level 30 or higher.

”Right. Be careful. If you find such a Demon Beast, attack immediately!”

Fang Xiu was confident that Kajimi’s strength was more than enough to crush any Demon Beast here.

After all, although there were many Demon Beasts in the Seventh Gate World, according to official estimates, their strength shouldn’t be too high.

Although... Fang Xiu was beginning to have his doubts now.

After all, the Demon Beast here was over Level 30.

That Level was already beyond what should be possible in the Seventh Gate World, based on its classification.

”Okay!”

Kajimi nodded.

She became even more alert to her surroundings.

She could kill a Level 30 Demon Beast, but what about a Level 40 or Level 50 one?

Fang Xiu wasn’t sure if Kajimi’s strength would be enough to kill it.

Of course, if the two of them teamed up, they might be able to.

After that, the two of them walked for nearly another half hour.

”Master, there’s a Demon Beast over there.”

Kajimi pointed east and said to Fang Xiu.

Fang Xiu looked up at the tree leaves.

His brow furrowed slightly. ”The treasure we’re looking for is also in that direction. Could it be that the Demon Beast is actually guarding it?”

”Master, I’ll go kill that Demon Beast right now!”

Kajimi said, ”There’s only one, and its strength is Level 30!”

”Then it seems that’s the Demon Beast Yuan Heng’s group saw before!”

Fang Xiu nodded slightly. ”Let’s go together. I want to see what kind of Demon Beast it is, too!”

”Yes!”

Kajimi replied.

Fang Xiu said no more. For any other Level 12 Awakened, or even a Level 20 Awakened, a Level 30 Demon Beast was a nightmare.

If they encountered one, they would have to flee immediately, just like Yuan Heng and his two companions.

But Fang Xiu was different.

At Level 12, he had already killed a Level 30 Demon Beast.

Although that had been with the help of Kajimi’s Skill buff,

he was still the one who had landed the killing blow with his Skill.

”Master, the Demon Beast is just ahead!”

Kajimi pointed nearby and said to Fang Xiu.

Fang Xiu followed her hand and saw a creature with green skin all over. It had a large head, a small body, and a somewhat humanoid appearance.

It had pointed ears, a hooked nose, and bulging, fish-like eyes. It was currently lying on the ground.

And it seemed to be holding something in its hand.

”Is that... a goblin?”

The moment he saw the green-skinned creature, the first thing that came to Fang Xiu’s mind was ”goblin.”

Although he didn’t know what goblins were called in this world,

in his mind, this thing was a goblin.

But there was only one, with no other goblins around.

’The Demon Beast Yuan Heng and the others saw... it couldn’t be this goblin, could it?’

’This thing... is Level 30?’
