The Golem Mage

”Why did you allow him to leave with your master’s spell book?, Were you not interested in claiming it for yourself all this time?”

The girl with the scar running across her face questioned Edward as he sat calmly in his chair, observing the shifting water screens before him.

Turning to face the lady, Edward explained,

”We are both aware that my master, ’Mad Dog,’ created that book with the intention of selecting a successor to carry on his legacy of creating evolution spells, and every mage who had unlocked the power of gravity in the War God Mage Academy at that time attempted to master his spells, but found themselves unable to fully comprehend the depth of the magic within.”

”It proved to be a challenge to find a mage who could truly understand the spell book’s teachings, After years of searching for someone who could synchronize with it, my master grew weary and entrusted the book to the Dean when he was about to leave, hoping that fate would guide it to the right individual. ”

” In fact, he even erased the book’s title, knowing that the older generation of student mages would recognize the name of the powerful spell created by the great Mad Dog of the War God Mage Academy and try to steal it.”

Edward’s expression softened as he reflected,

”It was a pleasant surprise for me when the book finally chose its successor, personally, I am pleased that it had selected Terran’s disciple.”

Curious, the lady probed, ”Why do you feel this way?”

”Master believed that if anyone was deserving of mastering the fundamental principles of gravity, it was Terran as he had even started making low tier spells have way more damage that time, while my master developed Gravity his powers from the space element, Terran derived his own gravity from the earth element.”

” so when it was offered to him, Terran declined the offer, feeling unworthy of what my master had created, but some mages of that time understood his reasoning, each move and spell Terran developed bore a resemblance to my master’s techniques.” Edward explained

”And it didn’t take long for others to begin referring to him as ’Junior Mad Dog,’” Edward noted with a hint of irony.

”He didn’t want that, he didn’t wish to be recognized as a prodigy in Mad Dog’s shadow, he sought to establish his own reputation, so he ventured into the Abyss and eliminated numerous high-ranking Orcs, earning a substantial bounty on his head.”

”Though ultimately saved by Master back then, but from that day on, no one ever called him Mad Dog’s disciple, they all remembered him as Terran Dunce, ’son of the earth’.”

” Now can you imagine how he must feel now, realizing that the very book he once rejected has chosen his own disciple?” Edward said with a knowing smile.

”I can’t say for certain, but what I do know is that Terran has undergone significant growth since the days of his reckless actions to prove himself,” the lady remarked.

”I care little for personal growth, I simply crave the entertainment of a good show,” Edward stated, engrossed in watching the water screen, a luxury made possible by the special abilities of the lady beside him.

She possessed the unique ability to summon night crows, assigning one to trail each team for observation.

And by combining her water spells and special capacities, she could project the birds’ perspectives through water, creating a sort of CCTV display for Edward’s viewing pleasure.

Meanwhile, the demonic hawk came to a halt just in front of the Tier 5 city gate where Alec was headed.

Alec and his two golems disembarked, with Alec tossing a nature low-tier power stone to the driver as a tip.

”Thank you,” the driver said, sizing Alec up as one of those rich young masters.

Ignoring the driver, Alec cloaked himself to conceal his identity as a student of the War God Mage Academy, though his student medal still peeked out.

Peering up at the new city where his first mission awaited, he sighed.

The walls appeared ready to crumble at any moment, but Alec still paid attention to every detail, the city walls and gate that once stood tall and imposing, now had their majestic stones weathered and aged.

As vines and moss snaked up the sides, weaving through the ancient stones.

The wooden gates groaned with the weight of time, their rusted hinges bearing witness to years gone by.

Cracks marred the stone walls, some sections collapsing entirely, leaving gaps in the city’s defense.

The gate’s intricate carvings had faded, and the portcullis hung limply in its frame, barely functional and covered in rust.

Alec pondered how the city could still fend off threats during Blood Moon events, especially with the deteriorating state of their defence,

And his thoughts returned to the content of his mission he had received claiming they face a low Tier space gate

So the Mages in the city are still able to successfully thwarting the creatures emerging from the space gate, but this allowed the Evil Sect to see the vulnerable city as a prime target.

As the capital showed no concern for well-being of cities like theirs, making it an easy prey.

Alec approached the gate and observed the guards idly carrying out their duties.

As he strolled through the town, a resonant bell chimed from a nearby temple, almost as if heralding his entrance.

Upon crossing the threshold, Alec sensed a malevolent energy attempting to penetrate his skin.

By erecting a mental shield, he managed to dispel the ominous feeling, Moving at a leisurely pace, Alec took in the sight of children running.

When a young boy tumbled in his direction, Alec swiftly caught him before he hit the ground.

”Be more careful next time!” Alec quipped with a smile.

”Thank you!” the boy replied, returning the smile.

”I’ve warned you not to run, but you never listen, Now, I have to take you to the temple to purify your wounds,” an older woman said as she scooped the child from Alec’s arms.

”Wait, you’re the child’s mother, right?” Alec inquired.

”Yes, and I see you’re a stranger,” the boy’s mother replied with a hint of suspicion.

”Yes, I am, But why does he need to go to the temple to treat an infection?, He only has a small cut from tripping, that shouldn’t cause an infection,” Alec questioned.

”Well, as you said, you are a stranger here, You don’t know how things work around these parts, I must go,” the woman said, hurrying off in a specific direction.

Alec observed her as she left, noting her pale complexion and the genuine concern in her eyes, realizing she was not exaggerating the severity of the situation.

”What are you thinking now?” Alec asked the system spirit golem beside him.

”It’s simple, we have a lead, so all we need to do is follow her,” the golem replied.

”Well, what are we waiting for?” Alec said, striding ahead.

As he grabbed a bamboo hat from a nearby store and tossed a low-tier power stone to the seller, who was left speechless by the unexpected generosity.

With determination, Alec continued on his path, driven to unravel the mystery behind the woman’s urgent actions, sensing that there was more to the situation than met the eye.
