Peerless Medical Emperor

Shen Mingyue stood up and said, a little angrily, ”Mom, don’t interfere in my life.”

”I’m your mother, I have every right to interfere.” Yao Shufen retorted. ”If you really liked this man, you should have brought him home for us to meet. We could have vetted him. But look at this mess now.”

Chen Qingdi’s heart tightened. He took a deep breath and said, ”Ma’am, I don’t think we’re a good match. Maybe we should just forget it. I won’t bother Mingyue anymore.”

”Not a good match? Then who do you think is?” Yao Shufen said scornfully. ”Those rich playboys who only know how to fool around? Or those bookworms who are nothing but armchair strategists? But, heh, it’s certainly not you, either.”

Chen Qingdi was rendered speechless. He knew he was in no position to judge others.

He looked at Shen Mingyue again and saw that she was also looking at him, her eyes filled with confusion and hesitation.

”Alright, that’s enough,” Shen Mingyue suddenly said. ”I love Qingdi, and I’m going to be with him.”

Hearing this, Yao Shufen’s face darkened. She spoke again, ”Don’t be blinded by this man. He’s not worthy of entrusting your life to him.”

”My life is none of your business,” Shen Mingyue said, annoyed. ”If you interfere again, I’ll cut ties with you.”

At these words, Yao Shufen’s face turned ashen. She took a deep breath and turned to leave the room.

Only Chen Qingdi and Shen Mingyue were left in the room. The atmosphere between them grew a little awkward.

”I’m sorry,” Chen Qingdi said with a sense of helplessness. ”I didn’t expect it to turn out like this.”

Shen Mingyue shook her head. ”It’s not your fault. That’s just how she is.”

”So... do you still want to be with me?” Chen Qingdi asked, a little worried.

Shen Mingyue didn’t answer. Instead, she rested her head on Chen Qingdi’s shoulder.

SLAP!

A hand slapped Chen Qingdi hard across the face. He was speechless. ’This mother-in-law of mine... she’s really something else, coming back for a surprise attack like that.’

”You... you hit me? What did I even do? Why did you hit me?”

Chen Qingdi clutched his face, staring at her in disbelief.

”Why wouldn’t I dare hit you? Think about what you’ve done. If you hadn’t done anything wrong, would I hit you for no reason?”

Chen Qingdi glared at Yao Shufen, not even bothering to waste his breath on her.

”You... What did you just say? You and my daughter are already legally married? You actually went behind my back and secretly married my daughter? You’re a complete bastard!”

Yao Shufen pointed at Chen Qingdi, trembling with such rage that she couldn’t form a complete sentence.

”Ma’am, you’d better watch what you say. I didn’t get married behind your back. It was all open and aboveboard. You should believe me by now, right?”

Chen Qingdi looked at Yao Shufen helplessly and shook his head.

”Believe you? If my daughter has been tricked by a bastard like you, I’ll... I’ll...”

Yao Shufen was too furious to speak.

”Mom, are you okay? Don’t blame me if you faint from anger.”

Shen Mingyue walked over to help Yao Shufen sit down.

”Hmph, I don’t need your phony help. You unfilial daughter! To think you’d go behind my back and marry this bastard. Do you even see me as your mother anymore?”

Yao Shufen slapped Shen Mingyue’s hand away, glaring at her huffily.

”How am I being unfilial? You’re the one who won’t listen to your daughter.”

Shen Mingyue’s face was troubled. ’You have to marry the one you love, but you also need a strong reason! If I get kicked out in a couple of days, it’ll be a complete and utter humiliation.’

’But looking at Chen Qingdi, that probably won’t happen, right? He’s a bit stoic, but he’s a good person.’

”Hmph, won’t listen to me? I think you’ve just been completely bewitched by this bastard!”

Yao Shufen grumbled, plopping herself down on the sofa.

”Ma’am, please stop making a scene. What era do you think this is? Are you still trying to have arranged marriages? We’re already legally married, so it’s impossible for you to break us up. Besides, I’m a doctor. I have ways to help restore your health...”

As he spoke, Chen Qingdi reached for Yao Shufen’s wrist.

”What are you doing?”

Yao Shufen yanked her hand away from Chen Qingdi’s.

”Ma’am, don’t misunderstand. I just want to take your pulse.”

Chen Qingdi said as he reached for her wrist again. ’This old lady really does have some health problems. If they’re not treated soon, I’m afraid they’ll only get worse.’

’If I use my silver needles to seal her acupoints, she’ll stop causing trouble.’

’Then I can treat her properly, and I’m sure her health will recover quickly. I’m dying to have our wedding night with Shen Mingyue! I can’t let this old lady keep making a scene like this.’

”Who needs you to treat me? I’m perfectly healthy! You’re the bastard!”

Even as she dodged Chen Qingdi’s hand, Yao Shufen continued to rail at him—right up until the moment she fainted.

Chen Qingdi sat on the sofa at home, watching the bustling traffic outside, his heart filled with helplessness.

RING RING RING...

The sudden ringing of the phone broke Chen Qingdi’s train of thought. He picked it up, his tone a bit cold. ”Hello?”

”Is this Mr. Chen? I’m from the hospital’s emergency center. You just called for an ambulance to pick up your mother-in-law, Yao Shufen. The ambulance has arrived. Where should we pick her up?” a gentle female voice asked from the other end.

”Oh, okay, thank you,” Chen Qingdi replied after a momentary pause.

He glanced at Yao Shufen, who had woken up but couldn’t speak, and sighed deeply. ”You still won’t forgive me?”

Yao Shufen didn’t speak, only giving him a cold look.

Helpless, Chen Qingdi picked up his phone and called Shen Mingyue. ”Mingyue, the ambulance is here. I’m taking Mrs. Yao to the hospital.”

”Okay, I understand,” Shen Mingyue’s voice sounded tired.

After hanging up, Chen Qingdi looked at Yao Shufen. ”I’m taking you to the hospital.”

A few days later, Chen Qingdi was sitting alone in the study, thinking about his marriage with Shen Mingyue.

He knew his relationship with Yao Shufen was terrible, but his feelings for Shen Mingyue were irreplaceable. He sighed deeply, picked up the phone, and called her.

”Mingyue, I need to talk to you,” Chen Qingdi said, his tone serious.

”Okay, where are you? I’ll head over right now.” Shen Mingyue’s voice sounded a little tense.

”I’m at home,” Chen Qingdi replied.

Not long after, Shen Mingyue returned home. Seeing Chen Qingdi’s serious expression, she felt a little uneasy. ”What’s wrong? Is something the matter?”

”We have to face a fact,” Chen Qingdi said, taking a deep breath. ”You and your family don’t really like me.”
