Peerless Medical Emperor

But now, with the Evil God Sect as an added burden, he couldn’t do anything without feeling constrained.

Yaglu suddenly spoke up. ”You must take control of the Evil God Sect to keep these people from causing trouble! You can reform the sect by your own rules, change its name—you could even call it the Holy God Sect for all I care!”

Then, he turned to Chen Qingdi. ”My two favored retainers... I hope you can relieve them of their suffering. From now on, I will be adrift on the river of time. Without their companionship, life would be worse than death.”

Chen Qingdi didn’t think the two men posed a threat to him, so he cured them of the Gu Poison.

Once freed, the two retainers were ecstatic. They knelt and thanked the Lord Holy Knight for his benevolence.

Yaglu looked at them.

”Since you are now immortal, there is no point in staying here. Are you willing to leave all worldly grievances behind and come with me?”

The two men pledged their loyalty. Yaglu turned and addressed all his followers.

”After I am gone, I expect you to listen to the Divine Physician. Completely reform our doctrines and become a peace-loving sect! If you dedicate yourselves to cultivation, you too can reach our realm!”

The followers all knelt before Chen Qingdi.

”We greet you, Lord Divine Physician!”

Yaglu, flanked by his two most trusted retainers, strode out of the castle and departed without a second glance.

It was said that people would spot them from time to time, but the trio’s movements were unpredictable. Sometimes they appeared in the Southern Heaven, other times in the Northern Earth.

Wherever they encountered conflict, they would use their own methods to quell the fighting and spread their newfound philosophy of peace.

Before long, Yaglu and his two retainers became an immortal legend in the region.

Chen Qingdi informed the people of Medical God Island about the outcome. Chen Yuan, representing them all, arrived at Yaglu Castle immediately.

He was happy for his boss, who, by a strange twist of fate, had become the highest-ranking person here.

”Boss, I can’t believe you’ve taken over the Evil God Sect. Are you going to be the Sect Leader here, or do you want to go back to being a Divine Physician?”

Chen Qingdi told him to bring over several theorists from the island to help revise all the sect’s doctrines and turn its members into emissaries of peace.

While he was staying in the castle, a servant respectfully presented the Longevity Scroll to Chen Qingdi.

It was a secret manual that had long been passed down on Yishen Island, but after the Evil God Sect stole it, it became their most prized treasure.

Now that Chen Qingdi had become the Sect Leader, the manual was his to keep.

”Boss, this treasure was passed down by the Island Master. Why don’t you try cultivating its techniques? See if you can become immortal like Yaglu.”

Chen Qingdi turned his head and asked Chen Yuan thoughtfully, ”Tell me, am I handsome?”

”Of course you are, Boss! You’re the most handsome man in the world!”

Chen Qingdi pinched his nose. ”Get out of here. The stench of your brown-nosing is thick enough to kill a man!”

Then, he took out a photograph of a primitive man.

”Is this man handsome?”

It was a picture of a warrior from ten thousand years ago. He looked completely different from modern people, almost like a partially evolved ape.

’Handsome’ was out of the question; it was generous enough to even call him human.

Seeing Chen Yuan’s expression, Chen Qingdi spoke pensively.

”Ten thousand years ago, by the aesthetic standards of the time, this warrior was considered a handsome man!”

Chen Yuan shot back, ”But this is ten thousand years later!”

”Suppose this handsome man ate an Elixir of Immortality and lived to this day. When modern people look at him, would they still think he’s handsome? Could he keep up with the trends?”

Chen Yuan wisely kept his mouth shut.

”Yaglu looks imposing now, but if he truly lives forever, what will people ten thousand years from now think when they see him? Will they see a demon, or a beast?”

The question was too profound. Our handsome Chen Yuan simply kept his mouth shut.

Chen Qingdi ordered the Longevity Scroll to be completely sealed away.

”Have two men take this scroll back to Yishen Island. Lock it away for good! We, at least, have no use for it.”

The doctrines of the Evil God Sect began to change, and the entire atmosphere of the sect shifted along with them. During this time, Chen Qingdi did not leave Yaglu Castle.

One day, just as he was getting up, he received a message from the butler.

”Lord Sect Leader, Princess Alice is here seeking medical treatment.”

”Have her come in,” Chen Qingdi said.

But the princess herself didn’t enter. Instead, a middle-aged maidservant walked in.

”Are you the physician?”

Chen Qingdi nodded. ”Where is the patient? Why wasn’t she brought in?”

The maidservant snorted derisively.

”Who do you think you are? You expect the princess to come in to see you? Get out there and welcome Her Highness on your knees!”

Two Holy Knights standing nearby tried to reason with him.

”Sir, His Majesty the King is incredibly powerful, and this princess is his favorite. If you don’t go out to greet her, there will be endless trouble!”

Chen Qingdi ignored them. ”I have never knelt to welcome anyone, and I certainly won’t make an exception for some so-called princess!”

The maidservant was unbelievably arrogant. She raised her hand to slap Chen Qingdi, but before her palm could connect, he simply pushed a hand out in her direction from a distance.

A powerful force sent the maidservant stumbling backward onto the floor, landing flat on her back with her limbs in the air.

The knights watching from the sidelines roared with laughter.

”This is treason! You dare strike the princess’s honored maidservant? That’s grounds for the execution of your entire clan!”

The maidservant scrambled to her feet and stormed out, fuming.

”Sir, refusing her like that will bring immense trouble from Her Highness. Perhaps you should call the maid back and apologize.”

Chen Qingdi was unmoved. A short while later, a commotion broke out.

”Sir, the royal court has dispatched five thousand elite knights to surround our castle! His Majesty the King has given the kill order—he’s determined to annihilate us.”

Chen Qingdi snorted. ”A king? So what? Let’s go have a look.”

Since the Holy Knights had suffered some losses, Chen Qingdi had already replenished their ranks. He now led ten thousand Holy Knights charging out of the castle.

”You people have offended His Majesty the King! This will not end well for you. Surrender now if you know what’s good for you!”

Chen Qingdi immediately summoned his twelve great Holy Knights, ordering them to mount their warhorses, take up their shields and lances, and charge toward the King’s position.

The King’s guards hastily loosed a volley of arrows, but it was futile. The Holy Knights’ steeds were clad in armor, making them difficult to harm with mere arrows.

One might wonder why firearms and cannons weren’t used. It was because the area was filled with so many ancient relics that the use of modern weaponry was strictly prohibited.

Here, law enforcers and ordinary knights alike used ancient cold weapons and rode warhorses.

With the twelve great Holy Knights leading the charge, the King’s troops fell into disarray. In no time at all, they had captured the enemy’s commanding general alive.
