Transmigrating Into a Book, the Villain Becomes the White Moonlight!

141: Chapter 141 Taking Mu Xue Home? She fell silent for a few seconds, as if finally mustering the courage to face reality. Her voice lowered, carrying a sense of resigned detachment. ”You should leave in a bit... Just pretend nothing happened today. Aren’t you still going to marry Lin Wan?”

Her voice was soft, yet it felt like a fine needle, giving a light, sharp prick.

”What do you mean, ’nothing happened’?” Su Bai frowned, suddenly interrupting her. He tightened his arm, pulling her whole body up slightly, forcing her face closer to his.

In the dim light, he stared into her moist eyes, his tone uncharacteristically direct: ”I’ll marry you.”

Those three words fell clearly, abruptly, and with immense weight, shattering the air still thick with lingering intimacy.

Mu Xue’s body went completely rigid.

She slowly raised her head at last, using the final sliver of daylight filtering through the window to gaze intently, almost greedily, at Su Bai’s face so close to hers.

In his eyes, she saw his familiar nonchalance, the remnants of desire not yet faded, and a trace of something she couldn’t decipher—a nearly serious certainty.

She stared at him like that for several seconds, as if trying to etch this version of him into her memory.

Then, she shook her head gently, a faint, bitter smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.

”I don’t need you to marry me.” Her voice had calmed, carrying a clarity born from the chaos. ”I never thought about it two years ago when we were together. Now... it’s the same.”

”What do you mean?” Su Bai was visibly stunned, not comprehending.

He had anticipated her surprise, her embarrassment, even possible joy or skepticism, but he hadn’t expected such a clean, outright refusal.

Given her situation and their recent intimacy, wouldn’t proposing marriage—whether out of responsibility or some calculation—have been the logical, expected choice?

Seeing his bewildered expression, a slight ache twinged in a corner of Mu Xue’s heart, yet a strange sense of relief also surfaced.

She reached out, her fingertips gently brushing over his slightly furrowed brow, her movement carrying a tenderness even she was unaware of.

”What I mean is,” she said, looking at him, enunciating each word clearly, ”just remember me. I don’t need that title, I don’t need you to change anything for me, and I especially don’t need you to disrupt your original life and... engagement because of me.”

She paused, her voice growing softer yet exceptionally firm. ”I won’t leave without a word like you did two years ago. I’ll stay somewhere you can see me, in my own way. That’s enough.”

These words didn’t sound like the clarity a woman should have just after experiencing drug-induced passion and intimate entanglement. They sounded more like a carefully considered laying of cards. She renounced her claim to the title of ’wife,’ yet demanded something more intangible and heavier—a permanent, irreplaceable place in his heart. It was a more lucid form of surrender and a more cunning kind of bond.

Su Bai fell silent. Looking into her clear, stubborn eyes, he realized for the first time that this girl—or rather, woman—whom he once could define simply with money, was far more complex and... thoughtful than he had imagined.

She didn’t want the security of marriage, yet she wanted to occupy a unique and unshakable corner of his emotional world. This felt more unfamiliar and difficult to handle than simple blackmail or a forced marriage.

The room plunged into complete darkness, only the distant city lights casting faint halos through the gaps in the curtains.

...

After a brief silence, the sound of Su Bai getting up first broke the quiet. He dressed swiftly and efficiently. Glancing back at Mu Xue, still curled up in the dim bedding, he left a terse command, ”Get ready. Come with me.” He then unlocked the bolted door and walked down the stairs with steady steps.

”Butler Fu.” Su Bai’s voice, clear and calm, carried from the stairwell landing, betraying no hint of anything amiss.

He entered the living room, his face even sporting a faint, perfectly appropriate flush of someone just waking from a hangover. He actually looked more refreshed than when he had arrived.

”Young Master, you’re awake.” Butler Fu immediately set down his long-cold teacup and stood up. His gaze swept over Su Bai quickly and professionally, confirming everything was in order before a relieved, gentle smile appeared on his face.

”That wine really packed a punch,” Su Bai said, rubbing his temples and turning to Mr. Nangong in the main seat. His tone carried the apology of a junior and a touch of self-deprecation. ”I didn’t expect to sleep for so long. That was truly rude of me. I’ve caused trouble for you, Uncle Nangong.”

”No trouble at all, no trouble!” Mr. Nangong’s smile remained enthusiastic, but his shrewd eyes scrutinized Su Bai’s expression, demeanor, even every detail of his clothing like a searchlight.

So calm?

Refreshed?

This was completely different from the fluster, guilt, or even a hint of post-satiety weariness he had anticipated!

Could it be... the plan went wrong?

Impossible! Mr. Nangong immediately dismissed the thought.

The drug he’d given Mu Xue was obtained through special channels—the dosage was absolutely sufficient.

He had personally activated the remote switch for the electric hidden door from his study, ensuring the two were locked in the same confined space.

Everything was perfectly aligned. How could it have gone wrong?

No matter. He quickly steadied himself, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

Hidden cameras had long been installed in that room, with tricky angles and crystal-clear footage.

No matter how convincingly this kid acted now, it was just a front.

With the video in hand, he wasn’t afraid the Su Family wouldn’t yield, nor that this young man wouldn’t comply!

Thinking of the impending ’leverage’ and the enormous benefits it could bring, the smile on his face grew a touch more genuine.

”Since you’ve sobered up, we won’t impose any longer,” Su Bai said, as if completely oblivious to the scrutiny in the other’s gaze, smiling as he took his leave. Then, naturally, he turned his head and called out clearly toward the top of the stairs, ”Mu Xue, let’s go.”

That single call instantly froze the smile on Mr. Nangong’s face!

On the second-floor corridor, Mu Xue’s figure slowly appeared.

She had changed into simple clothes, her hair tied up somewhat messily. Her face was expressionless, even a bit pale.

She descended the stairs step by step. Her gaze swept across the living room, lingering on Mr. Nangong’s direction for the briefest instant—that look was icy, detached, even carrying a disgust that seemed to see through everything, utterly different from her usual distantly respectful or aloof demeanor.

Then, she averted her eyes directly, as if Mr. Nangong were merely an insignificant piece of furniture. Without pausing, she walked towards the villa’s main door.

”Huh? Mu Xue? You... you’re home?” Mr. Nangong’s pupils contracted almost imperceptibly, his heart sinking like a stone. The words escaped him involuntarily.

Forcing down the surging shock and suspicion, he quickly adjusted his expression to one of surprise mixed with a touch of ’fatherly’ concern. ”When did you get back? Why didn’t you say anything? You don’t look well.”

He tried to use his words to stop her, while also probing.

However, Mu Xue acted as if she hadn’t heard him, not even pausing her steps. Her resolute back disappeared into the brightness of the doorway.

The muscles in Mr. Nangong’s face twitched almost imperceptibly before he forcibly stretched them back into a smile. He looked at Su Bai, seemingly wanting to explain. ”That child... she probably just got back from outside and is tired. Her temper is a bit...”

”It’s normal for girls to have a bit of temper,” Su Bai interrupted him, his face still wearing that breezy, unruffled smile, as if Mu Xue’s icy glance and complete disregard were just ordinary family matters. ”Well, Mr. Nangong, we’ve truly disturbed you today. We’ll take our leave now.”

Of course, he wouldn’t let Mu Xue stay in the Nangong Family home.

Having witnessed Mr. Nangong’s utterly unscrupulous methods today, who knew what else this old fox might do if cornered?

Leaving Mu Xue in that den of wolves would be like throwing a lamb to the tigers.

Taking her away was partly out of a sense of responsibility he himself might not fully understand, and partly to sever any possibility of the Nangong Family continuing to use her as a pawn.

With that, Su Bai gave a slight nod to Butler Fu. Master and servant didn’t linger, turning and walking towards the main door as well.

Mr. Nangong stood rooted to the spot. The smile he had struggled to maintain vanished completely the moment Su Bai turned his back, replaced by a dark, grim expression.

He stared fixedly at the retreating backs of Su Bai and Butler Fu, then looked up at the empty staircase. His eyes were filled with shock, anger, and a hint of unease.

He turned abruptly and strode quickly towards his study. He had to check the surveillance footage from that room immediately!

Where exactly had things gone wrong? That look in Mu Xue’s eyes... did she know something?

Su Bai’s abnormal calmness... what was going on?

Outside the villa, dusk was settling.

Su Bai got into the car, his gaze profound as he looked at Mu Xue, who was already sitting quietly on the other side of the back seat, staring out the window in silence.

Butler Fu smoothly started the car, driving away from the luxurious yet suffocating estate.

The atmosphere inside the car was subtle, but at least they had temporarily escaped that carefully laid trap. As for the ensuing trouble and the Nangong Family’s potential retaliation, that was another game to be played.

The car drove smoothly away from the Nangong Family villa area, merging into the evening traffic. The interior was dimly lit, only the dashboard emitting an quiet blue glow.

After a moment of silence, Su Bai suddenly spoke, his voice unusually clear in the quiet cabin. ”Are you sure all the videos have been dealt with cleanly? No loose ends?”

He was asking Butler Fu, but his eyes met Butler Fu’s in the rearview mirror for an instant.

”Rest assured, Young Master,” Butler Fu said, focused on the road ahead, his voice steady and certain. ”The Nangong Family villa’s surveillance system, including the main lines and all detected backup nodes, has been overwritten. They only had one extremely hidden pinhole camera in a specific room on the second floor, likely installed recently. The signal was intercepted and replaced with a looped static image, and the storage device was physically interfered with.”

He paused slightly, glancing through the rearview mirror at Mu Xue sitting quietly beside Su Bai, lost in thought as she gazed out the window. His tone became more cautiously implicit. ”Judging by the location... barring any surprises, it was the room you rested in today.”

”Hmm, good.” Su Bai nodded, his expression neutral. He casually, almost soothingly, patted the back of Mu Xue’s hand resting beside her.

His palm was dry and warm against Mu Xue’s slightly cool skin.

Mu Xue’s fingers curled slightly, but she didn’t pull away.

She slowly turned her head to look at Su Bai. The passing lights from outside the window flickered in her eyes.

”Before... you warned me, said the Nangong Family was up to something, told me to be careful.”

Her voice was soft, carrying a post-event calmness and a trace of barely perceptible inquiry. ”Did you... already think he might use this kind of... method?”

She didn’t specify what ”this kind of method” was, but all three people in the car understood.

Hearing this, Su Bai immediately turned to look at her, his face wearing a perfectly appropriate look of grievance and helplessness. He raised one hand as if taking an oath. ”Heaven and earth as my witness, I truly didn’t expect this! I came to the Nangong Family today purely because Nangong said he had something to discuss. I didn’t even know if you were home!”

He explained quickly, his eyes sincere—at least on the surface—trying to dispel any suspicion of ”foresight.”

After all, admitting he had anticipated it yet still let Mu Xue walk into danger would be a completely different matter.

Looking at his eager-to-explain self, Mu Xue’s eyelashes lowered slightly. She didn’t press further.

Some things were better left as suspicions, not necessarily needing to be voiced aloud, especially in front of Butler Fu.

She didn’t want to discuss those details involving privacy, drugs, and ugliness in front of a third party.

She was silent for a while before turning her gaze back to the scenery rushing past the window. Changing the subject, her voice regained its calm. ”Where... are you taking me now?”

”Hmm...” This question gave Su Bai a rare moment of hesitation. At the time, he had only thought about getting Mu Xue away from the Nangong Family’s den of wolves immediately. As for the specific arrangements after taking her away... he really hadn’t had time to think it through.

Take her back to the Su Family? Clearly inappropriate. Not to mention how to explain it to his parents, just the potential fallout with Lin Wan would be a headache.

To a hotel? That seemed the most conventional choice, but...

”How about...” He had just uttered two words, still weighing his phrasing.

”I’m not going to a hotel.” Mu Xue preempted him, her tone flat yet unusually resolute. She didn’t even look back at Su Bai. ”You know which one I mean.”

Su Bai’s words were cut off. Of course he knew where she meant—the top-floor suite at that hotel he had long-term booked two years ago, when they maintained their special relationship.

For Mu Xue, that place symbolized a past marked by clear prices and a lack of respect, one of the labels she now most wanted to shed.

Since their relationship had now tangled and crossed that line of pure monetary transaction, she naturally didn’t want to return to a place filled with old traces, a place that would constantly remind her of her former situation.

”After all... it’s different now.” Mu Xue added in a low voice, as if explaining, or perhaps convincing herself.

Her somewhat tired yet exceptionally clear profile was reflected in the window. Su Bai said, ”Finding a place is easy enough. Butler Fu, are there any vacant villas near my place?”

”There are quite a few, and they’re all furnished,” Butler Fu replied. Clearly, that was one of the perks of having money.
