Transmigrating Into a Book, the Villain Becomes the White Moonlight!

125: Chapter 125 When did I win over the female lead?”Since the master has agreed,” Brother Bufan, seeing the situation had reached this point, had no choice but to settle for the next best thing and immediately chimed in, ”then I’ll still tag along. I can provide some assistance and ensure things are more secure.”

He truly wasn’t comfortable letting Su Bai go out alone with the two sisters. What if this guy took the opportunity to pull some stunt, or worse, led them astray and they didn’t come back for the night...

Mu Xue and Nangong Rou didn’t explicitly object, seemingly acquiescing to the bodyguard’s presence.

It was then that Su Bai spoke up, not even lifting his eyelids, his voice flat, ”There’s no room in the car.”

With that, he simply raised a hand towards a black sedan parked by the roadside. Butler Fu, who had been standing as still as a sculpture beside the car, immediately stirred. He walked to the rear passenger side with steady, swift strides, smoothly pulled open the door, and gave a slight bow.

A master!

Brother Bufan’s pupils contracted almost imperceptibly.

Almost the instant Butler Fu took his first step, he had already made his judgment—the footfalls were extremely stable, the breathing was long and carried a peculiar rhythm, and there was a sense of perfectly honed coordination in his seemingly ordinary movements. This was definitely not the aura of an ordinary driver or butler.

This was a martial artist who kept his abilities hidden, and his skill level was likely not low.

Could the two local thugs he had hired... really probe the depths of such a person?

For the first time, a sliver of uncertainty arose in Brother Bufan’s mind about those casually placed pawns.

In the time it took for these thoughts to flash through his mind, Su Bai had already leisurely taken the lead and settled into the car.

Once inside, shielded from the outside view, Su Bai unhurriedly unfolded his palm. On the neatly folded slip of paper were only a string of clean, crisp numbers—no signature, no extra strokes.

Nangong Rou... Su Bai’s mind flashed with that lovely, radiant mixed-race face, and a trace of almost imperceptible amusement flickered in the depths of his eyes.

It seemed this Second Young Miss of the Nangong Family was far from the innocent and naive girl she appeared to be. Beneath that obedient mask lay another set of thoughts.

He casually saved the number from the slip into a temporary note in his phone, then crumpled the paper. If used properly, this woman could accelerate the progress regarding the Nangong Family.

The evening’s itinerary was rather uneventful.

Su Bai simply had Butler Fu drive aimlessly around a few landmark commercial districts, occasionally stopping at Nangong Rou’s request to accompany the two young ladies for a casual look outside the brightly lit shops.

Brother Bufan remained not far behind, maintaining what he called a safe distance, like a silent yet stubborn shadow, his gaze sweeping over Su Bai from time to time, his vigilance never diminishing.

On the return trip, only Su Bai and Butler Fu remained in the car.

The interior was unusually quiet, with only the low hum of the engine.

Butler Fu steadily controlled the steering wheel with one hand, while silently passing a lit-up phone to the back seat with the other.

”Young Master, preliminary investigation completed,” Butler Fu’s voice came from the front seat, steady as usual.

Su Bai took the phone. The screen displayed a neatly compiled summary of information about Brother Bufan.

He quickly scanned it, his gaze shifting from initial casualness to gradually becoming focused, then a trace of cold mockery surfaced.

This resume was too ”clean.”

Clean like a brand-new sheet of white paper, freshly printed and not yet bearing any writing.

According to the information, Brother Bufan’s growth trajectory, educational background, and work experience had absolutely nothing to do with the ”bodyguard” profession, which required specific skills and experience. In fact, they were poles apart.

Yet, the Nangong Family had hired him and entrusted him with the close protection of the newly recognized Eldest Young Miss.

More crucially, this overly smooth resume, lacking in supporting details, carried a whiff of meticulous polishing. It was definitely not something an ordinary person or institution could produce.

”It’s a bit too fake,” Su Bai handed the phone back, his voice betraying no emotion, but Butler Fu, familiar with him, could detect the chill beneath the calm.

”Indeed,” Butler Fu took the phone, ”the surface information has been handled very professionally, as if protected or scrubbed by some special channel. If we want to dig deeper and reach the concealed parts, it will require mobilizing some unconventional resources and time.”

Su Bai leaned back against the seat, his gaze shifting to the streaks of light receding rapidly outside the window.

The current Nangong Family, beset by internal and external troubles, clearly did not possess such capabilities, nor did they have any reason to go to such great lengths to forge a background for an ordinary bodyguard.

This in itself was a huge contradictory signal.

Precisely because of this ”unnecessary” effort implying a ”necessity,” the vague premonition in Su Bai’s heart gradually clarified, linking into a familiar pattern that filled him with immense annoyance.

Bodyguard, the long-lost true heiress female protagonist, a wealthy family seething with internal undercurrents, a charming and unpredictable second female lead...

These keywords jumped and collided in his mind, finally piecing together seamlessly into a template that almost made him want to sneer.

This Brother Bufan, no matter how you looked at him, seemed like a standard ”Protagonist” template from some story—carrying secrets, infiltrating a wealthy family, getting close to the female protagonist, destined to resolve crises, win the beauty, and slap the faces of all who looked down on him.

And himself?

Su Bai tugged at the corner of his mouth. A notorious rich second-generation heir, with past entanglements with the female protagonist (albeit monetary), currently appearing to inadvertently approach the family she belonged to... This role positioning was practically tailor-made to be the early-stage Villain or a tool for the Protagonist’s face-slapping.

But the problem was, according to that kind of routine, shouldn’t it be him, the Villain, who first actively provoked and bullied the Protagonist, only to be countered and slapped back?

Why was it that this time, this Protagonist Brother Bufan, before he had even done anything or shown clear hostility, had taken the initiative, using a low-level method like hiring attackers to probe, or possibly even trying to eliminate him directly?

”But since he has already made a move, naturally, I have no reason to remain idle,” Su Bai withdrew his gaze from the window.

”Tell Chu Ci to pick a few clever, clean-handed individuals and have them ready. Also, send her Brother Bufan’s photo.”

Butler Fu glanced at Su Bai through the rearview mirror, a rare trace of hesitation flickering across his steady face, ”Young Master, this Brother Bufan is clearly problematic, his background unclear. The people under Chu Ci might suffice for ordinary situations, but facing a character of unknown origin, whose background is likely heavily concealed, they probably wouldn’t just fail to accomplish anything; they might easily alert him and expose our intentions.”

”I know,” Su Bai leaned back further, finding a more comfortable position, his voice carrying a note of inquiry, ”I don’t expect them to actually do much to him. I just want to see how qualified this new bodyguard of the Nangong Family really is, and how fast his reactions are when faced with an unexpected situation.”

Probing sometimes reveals more about someone’s caliber than direct conflict.

Especially for someone Su Bai had categorized within the suspicious Protagonist range.

After saying this, Su Bai seemed to suddenly remember something, lightly tapping his finger on his knee, ”By the way, that port cooperation partner mentioned before, whose family was it specifically?”

”It’s Wang Zhuang, Chairman Wang,” Butler Fu replied, then added matter-of-factly, ”Actually, you know him too. His son is your roommate.”

So it was Fatty’s father. Su Bai nodded, not particularly surprised.

In fact, he had already harbored some vague suspicions, which was why he had seemingly casually asked Fatty about his family situation back then.

If Fatty’s family were just ordinary merchants with no foundation, given the network of influence Ji Bochang and his group had built in City A back in the day, swallowing up a strategically located port wouldn’t have been difficult.

Stringing it all together now, the sequence of events became much clearer.

”How far along is the handling of the Ji Family matter?” Su Bai changed the topic.

”It’s already in the cleanup phase,” Butler Fu’s reply was concise, ”The only things that can still be called assets under the Ji Family’s name now are a few shell companies, and even those aren’t directly under their name, mainly used for money laundering. We’re preparing for Chu Ci to take them over.”

”Alright, you arrange it,” Su Bai responded.

Meanwhile, Brother Bufan, having returned to the Nangong Family villa, didn’t linger in the living room and went straight into the temporary room arranged for him in the annex.

He locked the door behind him, focused his senses on his surroundings for a moment to confirm nothing was amiss, then retrieved an old-fashioned encrypted phone from a hidden compartment in the wardrobe and dialed an overseas number.

After a brief dial tone, the call connected. A deliberately lowered yet unmistakably respectful male voice came through, ”Dragon King.”

”Dragon Two,” Brother Bufan dispensed with any pleasantries, his voice cold and direct, ”have you prepared the funds as instructed?”

”The funds have been assembled in batches according to your instructions,” the person addressed as Dragon Two replied quickly, but then his tone revealed difficulty.

”However, Dragon King, in recent years, China has significantly upgraded its monitoring of fund flows and security defenses. Loopholes aren’t as easy to find as before. For such a large sum, transferring it into the country without attracting any attention is very troublesome to operate. It requires more meticulous arrangements and a longer timeframe.”

”I want results,” Brother Bufan’s voice dropped several degrees, ”not to hear about how complicated the process is.”

The Nangong Family’s current overseas industries and investments were practically stagnant, repeatedly encountering setbacks with little hope of a turnaround.

Fortunately, the head of the Nangong Family wasn’t completely foolish and understood the need to cut losses. They wanted to return to the domestic market to start anew and establish a foothold.

They had their eyes on the family background of that playboy Su Bai, wanting to use it as a stepping stone. Brother Bufan saw this clearly.

Serve as someone else’s stepping stone?

He had no such patience for that.

But if, on the contrary, he could gradually bring the entire Nangong Family, along with its potential resources and that pair of sisters with their distinct yet equally captivating temperaments, under his control... This prospect interested Brother Bufan quite a bit.

”I suggest we proceed on two fronts, Dragon King,” Dragon Two seemed to have a plan ready and immediately proposed, ”The first batch of funds, convert them into cryptocurrency and route them through multiple shell companies, breaking them into smaller sums to slowly infiltrate. The second batch, directly convert into physical gold and use reliable ocean freight channels to enter via sea transport. This method, although slower and more procedurally cumbersome, is the most secure and carries the lowest risk of exposure.”

Brother Bufan held the phone, silent for a moment, his gaze appearing deep and inscrutable in the dim room.

Finally, he gave a low ”Hmm” from his nasal passage, indicating acceptance of the plan, then promptly hung up.

...

Over the next few days, Su Bai didn’t run into Lin Wan again.

Ever since she threw out those words that night, she seemed to have fallen completely silent in his life, leaving not a trace of her existence behind, an abnormally quiet absence.

Since returning to the country, Lin Wan had always maintained that cool, self-possessed, family-first demeanor in front of him—polite and thorough, yet distant as if separated by a pane of glass.

Su Bai never expected that pane of glass would be shattered by her own hand without warning, leaving him momentarily stunned.

He hadn’t even fully processed her words on the spot, just stared blankly as she finished speaking, turned, and walked away decisively into the night. Only when her figure had completely vanished and the cool night breeze brushed past did he belatedly grasp the all-or-nothing determination in her words.

Piecing together Lin Wan’s fragmented words from that night and linking them to Mu Xue’s appearance around the same time, Su Bai barely managed to trace a line—it seemed Mu Xue’s sudden return and intervention had been the final trigger that spurred Lin Wan to drop that proper mask.

This sudden, almost confrontational situation left Su Bai feeling an unfamiliar sense of being at a loss.

Lin Wan had simplified the options with cruel clarity: either move towards her, or lose even the current seemingly peaceful, yet safely distanced relationship.

Damn, if he chose the latter... according to those messy story tropes, wouldn’t she be stimulated into doing something drastic, or even turn to the dark side?

What were the patterns for female protagonists turning dark in those novels? Obsession? Destruction? Or dragging both him and herself down together?

This thought flashed uncontrollably, making him inexplicably feel a chill on the back of his neck. He couldn’t help but click his tongue.

But the problem was, when and what had he done to make her develop this near-”certainty” kind of conviction?

Why didn’t he have any awareness of it?

With his lazy, apathetic attitude towards everything, even living his own life half-heartedly, could he really cause a standard female protagonist like Lin Wan—flawless in every aspect, destined to follow an elite path—to deviate from her track?

Su Bai ultimately couldn’t bring himself to directly call and ask.

He took a detour, had Fatty step in, using various pretexts for indirect inquiries, going through several layers of connections, and putting in some effort before finally digging up a bit of information from Lin Wan’s classmates—Lin Wan hadn’t appeared at school at all these past few days. She had taken leave, whereabouts unknown.

Apart from school, the only place she could go and possibly stay for an extended period seemed to be one: that game company she was deeply involved in and which now had substantial ties to him as well.

The car soon stopped at the entrance of the familiar office building.

Su Bai pushed the door open, got out, and walked into the slightly deserted lobby. The elevator ascended, stopping midway where he encountered a few employees who looked vaguely familiar. Upon seeing him, they first froze, then immediately switched to polite smiles, nodding in greeting:

”Young Master Su.”

”Good day, Young Master Su.”

Their attitude was completely different from the last time he visited, when they had looked at him with curious scrutiny yet maintained a noticeable distance.

Clearly, the existence of him, one of the true ”bosses” behind the scenes, had already spread internally.
