I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 232: Chapter 230: The Real Purpose of Getting Close to You

The scene changed again.

It shifted from the car to a garbage disposal plant.

A very large garbage disposal plant.

She was being dragged forward by Zhang Bai. She struggled, but she was dizzy and not as strong as him, so she could only let him pull her along.

Zhang Bai dragged her into a room. Inside, he pulled open a cabinet, revealing a door behind it.

Zhang Bai scanned his iris. After they entered, they found a downward-moving elevator.

The elevator descended. Once the doors opened, Zhang Bai pulled her forward some distance to another door. He swiped his hand over a lock on the side.

The door in front of them opened.

”Let me go! What are you doing?! Let me leave!” She instinctively felt something terrible was inside and made a final struggle, her hands gripping the doorframe, refusing to go in.

But Zhang Bai’s strength was too great, and hers was too little.

With a small tug, he pulled her inside.

She was dragged forward.

Zhang Bai dragged her to a long table, grabbed her by the hair, and forced her to look at the lab equipment and materials on it. ”Teacher Ding, do you recognize this stuff? I think you must be very familiar with this kind of equipment. You know what this is for, don’t you?”

Her whole body went stiff. She couldn’t stop trembling and could barely stand.

”Come on, let’s take a look over here.” Zhang Bai dragged her to another area. ”Kang Hong made these. All of this, and that’s not all. There’s a lot more in that warehouse inside, not to mention what’s already been shipped out. This is all the drugs Kang Hong produced—the man you recommended to my father.”

”I don’t believe it. I don’t believe it.” She pushed him with all her might.

She failed to move Zhang Bai and ended up falling to the floor herself.

Zhang Bai crouched in front of her. ”Zhang Yan Yu said he was in the import-export business, and he wasn’t wrong. This is the ’merchandise’ he exports. Every cent of his money you’ve spent, he earned it like this. This dump is his. This whole place is his. And right now, you have his child in your belly. Aren’t you happy, Teacher Ding?”

She clutched her stomach. She wanted to scream but no sound came out. She wanted to cry but no tears would fall.

Overwhelming sorrow, a stabbing pain in her heart, and an icy chill spreading through her entire body.

More than a decade of love had turned into sharp blades piercing her. Her whole body ached, an agony so intense it felt like she was suffocating.

Zhang Bai started to laugh. He stood up, grabbed the fabric of her clothes at the shoulder, and hauled her to her feet, dragging her outside.

He took her out of that area and brought her to the garbage processing section.

”Do you know what this is? It’s called a shredder.” Zhang Bai made her watch. ”Look at that trash. No matter how hard something is, you toss it in, and it gets torn to pieces.”

She collapsed to the ground again.

Zhang Bai took out his phone and made a video call to Zhang Yan Yu.

Zhang Yan Yu didn’t answer the first time.

He immediately called a second time.

Zhang Yan Yu picked up. ”What is it?”

Zhang Bai pointed the phone at her. ”Father, take a look. Do you know who this is?”

Zhang Yan Yu’s voice immediately turned grave. ”What are you doing?! Zhang Bai! I’m warning you! Don’t do anything rash!”

Zhang Bai made her look at Zhang Yan Yu on the phone screen.

She stared at the man on the other end of the call, tears streaming down her face.

All her emotions were choked in her throat, with no way to be released except for the endless flow of tears.

”Ruoyan! Ruoyan!” Zhang Yan Yu shouted. ”Don’t listen to his nonsense! You have to take care of yourself! Zhang Bai! You are not to touch her!”

Zhang Bai smiled. ”Father, this is what you owe me, what you owe my mother. Did you think I knew nothing? ’Get rid of the mother, keep the child.’ You never treated my mother like a human being, so now you can watch how your beloved woman leaves this world! I’ve waited a very long time for this day!”

”Zhang Bai!” Zhang Yan Yu roared.

”If you have to blame someone, blame your own bad luck,” Zhang Bai said, looking at her. ”For being loved by him.”

Her mind seemed to have completely lost the ability to think. She could no longer react at all.

”Teacher Ding, look at how furious and anxious he seems right now. But... after you’re dead, he’ll still clean up this mess for me,” Zhang Bai said with a sinister smile. ”That’s just the kind of cold-blooded person he is.”

She heard his words but still didn’t react.

Until Zhang Bai said, ”Look, who’s over there?”

She followed his pointing finger with her gaze.

She saw her parents. In that instant, she suddenly scrambled up from the ground, trying to get to them.

But Zhang Bai dragged her back down to the ground.

She clutched his clothes tightly. ”Let them go! Let them go! I can die! I’ll do anything! Just let them go, Xiao Bai, let them go. For all these years, I’ve truly treated you like my own son! I was good to you, I was genuinely good to you!”

A flicker of hesitation appeared in Zhang Bai’s eyes.

”Xiao Bai! I saw all those things. I’m not asking you to let me go, I accept my fate. But my parents don’t know anything, they know nothing at all. Please let them go,” she screamed. ”I’m begging you, begging you! My parents were good to you, too! For the sake of our relationship over the years...”

”Impossible,” Zhang Bai said. ”They watched me pick you up from your house. When you disappear, they’ll definitely suspect me. Aunt Ding, be sure to choose your men more wisely in your next life.”

He laughed after he finished speaking.

She screamed and begged him endlessly amidst his laughter.

Finally, Zhang Bai slapped her across the face.

Suddenly, everything went dark...

More than ten minutes passed, but Su Miaoyi hadn’t reacted at all.

Shen Shilan and the others didn’t dare to move her.

The voice-activated light in the corridor had gone out.

Since the three of them were afraid to make a sound, all four stood there in the darkness.

”How long does this take?” Shen Shilan asked in a small voice. ”Do we just have to keep standing here? Can she really not move at all?”

”I don’t know,” Shen Yanzhou whispered.

”This is dangerous,” Qin Chengyuan also whispered. ”She just suddenly stops and sees things. With no reaction for so long, if a criminal were here... she’d be in great danger.”

”Yeah,” Shen Shilan said, equally worried.

The word had barely left her lips when Su Miaoyi suddenly gasped.

Her legs gave out, and she buckled.

Even though it was dark, the eyes of the other three were fixed on her.

With quick reflexes, Qin Chengyuan caught her.

Shen Yanzhou and Shen Shilan also rushed to support her.

The voice-activated light flickered on.

”Lele,” Shen Shilan cried out anxiously.

Su Miaoyi grabbed her and Qin Chengyuan’s arms, using them for support to pull herself upright.

She looked at the people in front of her, feeling her head spin again. She closed her eyes for a moment to steady herself.

And as she closed her eyes, all three of them saw the tears that escaped from them.

”Lele.” Seeing her cry, Shen Shilan’s own eyes instantly turned red. She raised a hand to wipe away Su Miaoyi’s tears, while her other hand gently soothed her back.

Su Miaoyi took a moment to recover, then opened her eyes and blinked, squeezing Shen Shilan’s hand. ”It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m fine. My legs just got a little weak. Don’t worry.”

As if on fast-forward, she first reassured Shen Shilan, then turned to the others. ”I’m fine. I’m heading to the municipal bureau, so I won’t see you guys out.”
