I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 204: Chapter 202: This Place Is No Longer Safe

Kang Hong struggled, and the police immediately handcuffed him.

The second great-aunt suddenly snapped to her senses and rushed over, slapping at the policeman’s hands. ”Let go! Let go of my son! Let go of my son!”

Su Miaoyi grabbed her arm and pulled her back a few steps. Unable to hit the policeman, she turned and tried to hit Su Miaoyi instead.

Cheng Jue, quick on his feet, grabbed her other arm.

The old woman screamed, ”Let me go! Let me go! What do you think you’re doing! What are you doing! Let go of my son! Help! Help! They’re murderers! They’re bullying common folk!”

Her screams were so loud that Su Miaoyi shut her eyes for a moment.

A police officer came over and restrained her.

But she kept screaming.

Su Miaoyi showed her credentials to the police officer.

The officer glanced at them. ”We were notified by the city bureau.”

Su Miaoyi had sent a message to the city bureau, asking them to notify the local precinct to make the arrest.

”Let me go! Let me go! Why are you arresting me? What did I do? Let me go,” Kang Hong struggled.

”Stay still,” one of the officers shouted.

”If you really didn’t know what was going on, you wouldn’t have lunged at me just now trying to take me hostage,” Su Miaoyi said, looking at him.

”I was just getting up and lost my balance,” Kang Hong retorted.

Su Miaoyi gave him a look, not bothering to waste her breath on him. ”A test will reveal everything. If you haven’t been using, you obviously won’t be wrongly accused.”

”Su Miaoyi! Su Miaoyi! You little bitch! You framed my son! I’ll kill you!” the second great-aunt shrieked at Su Miaoyi.

Ge Yu stepped in front of her. ”Who are you cursing at! If your son wasn’t doing something illegal, would they be arresting him?! Judging by your reaction, you knew about his dirty dealings! You knew, and you still had the nerve to come to our house and refuse to leave! In all my years, I’ve never seen someone so shameless!”

Su Miaoyi and Cheng Jue suddenly exchanged a look, seeing the shock in each other’s eyes.

Neither of them had ever seen Ge Yu speak to anyone so loudly, let alone curse at them.

”We let you in out of respect for our family ties, and you try to ruin my child! What kind of family are you! We must have been cursed for eight lifetimes to have a relative like you! Say one more word and I’ll rip your mouth off!”

Su Miaoyi and Cheng Jue flanked Ge Yu, pulling her to the side.

”Auntie, calm down. It’s not worth it, really,” Su Miaoyi said. ”I can handle this. You go rest.”

Cheng Jue had never seen his mother like this and stared at her with great curiosity, craning his neck.

”Get out of here,” Ge Yu said, pushing his head.

Su Miaoyi explained the situation to the officers who had come over, then followed them to the precinct.

The police also dispatched officers to Kang Hong’s residence and his parents’ home.

Su Miaoyi went with them to Kang Hong’s residence.

They found a significant amount of heroin at his place.

Kang Hong’s drug test was positive.

It wasn’t just the drug test that was positive.

His HIV test was positive too.

”Kang Hong’s arms and legs are covered in track marks. Many spots are already beyond recovery. When the cravings hit him at this stage, he doesn’t care about anything else. He likely shared needles with others and contracted HIV.”

Back at the precinct, Su Miaoyi looked over Kang Hong’s file.

He had indeed attended a university in Jinghai—a top-tier one. After graduating, he was unemployed for nearly a year.

Later, he started working at a small company.

For the past ten-plus years, he had been at this same company, his salary increasing from 3,000 a month at the beginning to over 10,000 now.

Su Miaoyi looked at the salary he’d earned over the years.

The watch on Kang Hong’s wrist was real.

And several other watches had been found at his residence.

The cheapest one was worth 100,000.

His suits, shirts, cufflinks, and ties were all expensive.

It clearly didn’t match his income.

A check of his bank account showed no significant savings and no other deposits besides his salary.

There was also no record of him purchasing these watches.

’Where did the watches come from?’

’And where did the money to buy them come from?’

’That much money...’

”I suspect he’s dealing drugs,” Su Miaoyi said.

The officer from the precinct nodded. ”He’s been relatively careful. There are no suspicious transactions in his bank account.”

Su Miaoyi nodded, thinking about Kang Hong’s behavior that day.

’Overall, he’s cautious but not sharp enough.’

’If he were sharper, he would have left the moment I pulled up his sleeve.’

’But he didn’t. It seems he was very complacent around her family.’

’Perhaps because of his mother’s constant belittling of her family, he never really thought much of them and let his guard down.’

This was just her guess; it was hard to say what had really happened.

”Let’s interrogate him first,” Su Miaoyi said.

Just as she said that, an officer from the interrogation room came over. ”Captain, Kang Hong is going through withdrawal.”

The captain and Su Miaoyi looked at each other.

The captain stood up and headed to the interrogation room.

Su Miaoyi followed him and peered inside through the one-way glass.

Kang Hong was repeatedly slamming himself against the interrogation chair, his arms and legs thrashing, but he couldn’t move much due to his restraints.

”Please, I’m begging you. Just a little, give me a little, please, please. I’ll tell you anything, anything, I’m begging you, please, save me, save me.”

Su Miaoyi watched him through the one-way glass.

Her thoughts turned to his file.

The ID photo on his university diploma showed he hadn’t been so thin back then.

He had looked vibrant, with bright, spirited eyes, full of ambition.

But now, he was so emaciated he was unrecognizable, and his eyes were completely devoid of light.

Begging like this, stripped of all dignity... and if this went on, he would eventually lose his life.

...

Because of this case, Su Miaoyi wasn’t able to return to Weiyang Palace.

So, she planned to stay one more night. After dinner, they all chatted for a while about Kang Hong’s family situation before heading to their respective rooms.

Su Miaoyi went back to her room and told Zhuang Yanzheng about what happened with Kang Hong. Then, after sitting for a while, she went out and knocked on Cheng Yong and Ge Yu’s door.

”Miaomiao, what is it?” Ge Yu asked, opening the door.

”Uncle, Auntie, there’s something I need to discuss with you,” Su Miaoyi said. Then she knocked on Cheng Jue’s door. ”You come too.”

They sat down in Cheng Yong and Ge Yu’s room, and Cheng Jue looked at her. ”What’s wrong?”

”Uncle, Auntie, I was just thinking, this place isn’t safe anymore. We need to move tomorrow,” Su Miaoyi said.

”Huh?”

”Why?” Cheng Yong asked.

Cheng Jue was also taken aback.

Su Miaoyi lowered her voice. ”I’ve been thinking about Kang Hong’s situation, and something feels wrong. I’m worried someone might come for revenge.”

Ge Yu was frightened by her words and gripped Cheng Yong’s hand. ”Why would they want revenge on us? Just because we reported someone to the police?”

”Auntie, I can’t say too much. I can only say that this situation might not be as simple as it looks,” Su Miaoyi said, looking at the couple. ”It’s better to be safe than sorry. I can’t gamble with your lives; safety has to be the top priority. We have to move as soon as possible. We can’t take any chances or hope for the best. We don’t know when these bad people might make a move, so our only option is to leave quickly.”
