Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations

”Dad.”

”Uncle.”

Two young men greeted him, Nathan Mills gently released Carlotta Sterling’s hand and stood up, ”Have you had breakfast?”

”Yes, we have.” Janelle placed the bag on the bedside table, ”This is the rice noodle rolls I brought for you, eat them while they’re hot.”

”Janelle, can you go and buy a bottle of chili sauce for me?” Nathan Mills said to his daughter, ”Rice noodle rolls taste best with chili sauce.”

”Okay.” Janelle replied without hesitation.

”I’ll go instead.” Trevor placed a hand on Janelle’s shoulder to stop her and gave Old Mills a smile.

At that moment, Nathan Mills quickly spoke, ”Trevor!” He halted Trevor’s steps again.

”Let Janelle go, she knows which kind I like.” The middle-aged man smiled.

Trevor met Nathan’s gaze and suddenly understood something: Uncle wanted to send Janelle away on purpose.

There must be something he wanted to discuss with him. Trevor’s heart sank—is Auntie Sterling’s condition worsening?

”Janelle, you should go then.” Trevor looked at the girl and spoke gently, ”Be safe on the way.”

Janelle nodded with a smile, ”Okay.” With that, she turned and left.

After his daughter left, Nathan Mills’s gaze fell once more on Trevor’s sharply defined face.

Trevor spoke softly, ”Uncle, please speak if there’s something on your mind.”

”Can you avoid telling Janelle about her origin?” The middle-aged man spoke with a hint of sigh and a trace of plea.

Because Old Mills believed Trevor knew about her background, as it could be discerned through blood type, but Janelle was unaware, and in such matters, girls tend to be somewhat careless.

Trevor was silent for a moment, and then spoke with regret, ”She already knows.”

Nathan Mills was slightly startled inside, still gazing at him for a long time. Trevor’s eyes were filled with sincerity, not at all joking.

After a good while, he asked in surprise, ”She knows?”

”Yes.” Trevor nodded, his voice gentle, ”But Janelle doesn’t plan to reconnect with her biological parents, so she won’t even inquire about her origin. She cherishes her current life very much.”

This news for Old Mills and Sister Sterling should be somewhat comforting.

Outside the door, Janelle pressed her ear lightly against the door slit, hearing the conversation inside clearly.

Her mood inevitably turned heavy, she slowly withdrew her thoughts, and gradually stepped away.

In the hospital room.

Nathan Mills looked at Trevor, still echoing his earlier words in his ears, with shock as well as astonishment.

Janelle actually doesn’t want to acknowledge her biological parents?

Trevor elaborated, ”That’s Janelle’s own choice.”

With a layer of tears in his eyes, Nathan Mills suddenly felt a pang in his nose, his heart filling instantly with emotion, ”Trevor, do you want to know about Janelle’s background?” His voice trembled lightly, as if it was a bitter past.

”If you’re willing to tell, I’d love to hear it.” Trevor answered, ”If it’s inconvenient, there’s no need to say. I will not change my love for Janelle because of her origin. I’ll marry her and take care of her for life.”

This moved Nathan Mills immensely.

He completely regarded Trevor as his own, and after gathering his emotions, he spoke softly—

”Over twenty years ago, one evening, Auntie Sterling and I were driving through a large countryside bridge and saw a truck overturning into the river.”

”Before the traffic police arrived, the villagers rushed to rescue people. Since the water was shallow, it was a dry season, cries of children were heard from the truck bed, while the truck driver and personnel scrambled out from the cabin and fled.”

”Everyone quickly pried open the truck bed and found it filled with children from several months to five years old, about twenty to thirty children. It was a human trafficking group.”

”Many children were injured, and several even died on the spot. The scene at that time was truly horrifying.” His voice was filled with sorrow, almost afraid to recall.

Listening, Trevor’s chest suddenly felt ripped apart, his brow furrowed unconsciously—so his beloved Janelle was among them?!
