Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations

Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Understanding Her Past Seven Years

”Your Mr. Kingston sent people to follow me, always on guard against me,” Mia Lane said bluntly. ”Do you think he considers me one of his own? Someone like him could never trust others, it’s always about benefits, not emotions.”

”No, it’s not like that,” Butler Shelby explained. ”He might not have feelings for others, but he definitely has feelings for you and the kids. I know him too well. Ever since you all moved in, his whole aura has been much gentler.”

She glanced over with a smile, affirming, ”It’s just for the kids, he values family bonds.”

”...” The butler was at a loss for words.

Mia Lane suddenly remembered, ”By the way, who is Anton Miller?”

”Anton Miller?” Butler Shelby shook his head. ”I’ve never heard of this person.”

Mia Lane didn’t see a trace of lying in his expression. How could this be?

By evening, Justin Kingston hadn’t come back.

The large table full of delicious dinner was almost cold, and the little ones’ stomachs were growling as they looked expectantly towards the courtyard.

”Mommy, should we call Daddy and ask when he’s coming back?” Gigi played with her chopsticks, speaking weakly.

”No, we won’t call, no more waiting, let’s eat.” With that, she picked up the spoon to serve the kids soup.

Dolly also picked up her chopsticks; the food Mommy made was too tasty! It was already a miracle she had held out for so long.

Gigi, who had long wanted to tackle three bowls, picked up her chopsticks too...

Butler Shelby stood at the living room door, waiting and waiting.

Why hasn’t Mr. Kingston come back?

It’s rare for Madam to make such a big table of delicious food, and he usually doesn’t work overtime.

Outside the main tower of the Kingston Group, the driver opened the Lamborghini door, and Justin Kingston’s tall, dignified figure sat in the back seat.

As the car started, he told the driver, ”To Ian Shelby’s place.”

”Okay, Mr. Kingston.”

In the car, he coolly completed an intravenous injection for himself...

Unconsciously, he recalled the taste of tomato and egg noodles, and thought of Mia Lane...

Remembering that night seven years ago, remembering the second meeting at Sunshine Village...

Bits and pieces related to her emerged in his mind.

Ten minutes later, in Ian Shelby’s villa, on the living room sofa.

The two sat across the table from each other, Ian Shelby poured two glasses of red wine, the last time he was here was for a paternity test.

”Tell me about her,” Justin Kingston frowned slightly, feeling a bit heavy-hearted. ”You should know quite a bit about her these past seven years.”

Ian Shelby could sense that he was not in a great state, at least not in a good mood.

Wanting to know about her was also a form of concern.

Ian Shelby took a sip of wine and sighed lightly, ”In one word it’s difficult, in two words very difficult, and in three words extremely difficult.” After saying this, he looked up and saw the deepness in Justin Kingston’s eyes.

Ian Shelby continued, ”When a woman is pregnant, it’s the most vulnerable phase both mentally and physically, and she was pregnant with two, so naturally, it was tougher than for others.”

Justin Kingston listened, silently drinking his wine.

”But her pregnancy went relatively smoothly. I accompanied her to checkups, and she decided to have the babies from the start, because they were two innocent lives. She’s so kind, her nature wouldn’t let her give up, even though the future was going to be very tough.” Ian Shelby was moved by her courage.

”She actually knew who the kids’ father was,” Ian Shelby said, ”but she didn’t seek him out because having the children was her own decision.”

”After Gigi and Dolly were born, they caught pneumonia before they even turned a month old. That period was quite tough, she stayed by their side day and night, not even allowing her eyes to close for fear that once she opened them, she wouldn’t see her kids again...”

Listening to this, Justin Kingston felt a blockage in his heart.

”She took care of the kids herself, starting as a novice mom, doing research, taking notes, and becoming a childcare expert.”

”Teaching them to babble, to toddle, it was all a difficult process that required a lot of patience...”

”One day she finally collapsed, running a high fever. It was Gigi who called me for help. By the time I arrived, she was already unconscious...”

Hearing Ian Shelby say all this, Justin Kingston’s heart felt shattering, his chest aching faintly.
