Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door

Chapter 105: Chapter 105: The Wolf is Coming

”Mother, my third brother is so silly,” Ling Yunge said. ”Look at his clueless expression. He definitely has no idea why Qianjun is angry. Sigh, it’s so worrying. How is he ever going to find a wife? His future bride will probably despise him for being so thick-skulled.”

”Don’t laugh at your third brother,” Xu Panqing replied. ”He just hasn’t grown up yet. He doesn’t understand matters between men and women; he’s just a bit naive. However, the rabbit he roasted definitely tastes better than your second brother’s. You can tell just by looking at the color.”

Ling Yunge agreed. ”He’s always been focused on eating, drinking, and having fun, so of course he’s particular about it. Our second brother trained hard in martial arts from a very young age and went to the military camp when he was older. He only cares about filling his stomach, so naturally, they’re different.”

The two chatted for a bit longer before falling silent to eat. The roasted rabbit smelled absolutely delicious.

At that moment, a pair of green eyes appeared in the dark.

A wild wolf had caught the scent of blood from the pheasants and wild rabbits being prepared by the exiled prisoners. It had quickly tracked them, then returned to its pack to summon the others.

Now, the entire pack was riled up. Their eyes flashed with greedy glints, and low growls rumbled from their throats. The wolves stealthily closed in on the prisoners’ camp, their steps so light and agile they moved like a pack of ghosts. Completely oblivious to the encroaching danger, the exiled prisoners were still busy preparing their game, eager to enjoy the rare delicacy.

Ling Qianjun was the first to notice something was wrong. He abruptly stood up, his ears pricked as he listened intently. Seeing this, Hua Buwan and the Ling Family immediately fell silent, staring in confusion at his unusual behavior.

His eyes locked onto the depths of the forest, his hand tightly gripping the dagger at his waist. ”Quick, climb the trees! Hurry! Wolves are coming!”

Hua Buwan and his family felt his intense urgency. Not daring to delay for a second, they quickly scrambled up the nearest trees. They had heard him loud and clear. Wolves were coming! My god! Wolves!

The government officers and the other prisoners also heard Ling Qianjun’s shout. The camp instantly dissolved into absolute chaos, with screams rising one after another. Many people just spun around in circles, completely at a loss for what to do. Fortunately, some managed to spot Ling Qianjun’s group climbing the trees and immediately found their own trunks to frantically scale.

Ling Qianjun wanted to immediately send Hua Buwan back to the supermarket, but there was no time. He had three family members to protect; he couldn’t just abandon them. Furthermore, the moment the words left his mouth, Hua Buwan shot up the tallest tree like a rocket. By now, she was already sitting securely on a sturdy branch, hugging the trunk tightly and looking down at him with nervous eyes.

Ling Qianjun thought, ”I never expected Buwan to be so good at climbing trees. I underestimated her.”

Turning his head, he saw his mother and younger siblings still struggling to climb. He immediately rushed over to help. Only after they were all safely in the branches did Ling Qianjun climb the tree Hua Buwan was in, his eyes constantly scanning their surroundings.

Suddenly, he spotted a mass of dark shadows creeping toward them. Hearing his warnings from earlier, Hua Buwan and the family were gripped by terror. They gripped the tree branches tightly, not daring to relax for even a moment.

Then, a wild wolf let out a sharp howl, shattering the tranquility of the night.

”AH! There really are wolves!”

”That’s a wolf’s howl!”

”Help! I can’t climb up!”

The exiled prisoners who hadn’t yet managed to climb a tree looked up in horror, only to see that a pack of wild wolves had already surrounded them. Baring their razor-sharp fangs, the wolves lunged. Panic-stricken, the prisoners fled in all directions, but the beasts pursued them relentlessly.

In this life-and-death struggle, the exiled prisoners quickly fell at a disadvantage. Their bodies were soon covered in wounds, and fresh blood stained the earth red.
