Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: If Others Treat Her Well, She Must Treat Them Well Too

After putting the things away, Ling Qianjun also pulled a cloth bundle from his sleeve pocket. ”Take a look at this.”

”Hmm? What is it?” Hua Buwan leaned in curiously.

Ling Qianjun opened the cloth bundle, and the rich scent of medicinal herbs wafted out.

”Notoginseng? Smilax glabra?” Hua Buwan looked at the two types of herbs, pleasantly surprised. ”Did you dig up wild herbs on the mountain?”

Although these two herbs weren’t as precious as ginseng or Lingzhi, they were still quite excellent. Notoginseng, also known as mountain paint or ’not to be exchanged for gold,’ was a great medicine for resolving blood stasis and stopping bleeding. As recorded by Li Shizhen, whenever there were injuries from beatings or falls with continuous bleeding and blood stasis, chewing the herb immediately and applying it would stop the bleeding, and bruises and swelling would quickly dissipate.

Meanwhile, smilax glabra was sometimes called wild boar dung, cold rice ball, or mountain chestnut. It could clear heat, detoxify, and had anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, as well as the ability to alleviate atherosclerosis. Lingnan people particularly loved using smilax glabra to brew soups to dispel dampness.

”Yes, I just dug them up not long ago, so there’s still dirt on them.” Seeing Hua Buwan’s expression, Ling Qianjun knew she was very satisfied. He secretly decided that he could bring Ling Qianfan up the mountain next time to dig for herbs and try their luck.

”The scent of pure wild herbs really is rich. Just smelling it makes me feel refreshed.” Hua Buwan really liked the natural smell of medicinal herbs. She always felt a sense of peace when breathing in this medicinal fragrance. Of course, if she were asked to drink a very bitter traditional Chinese medicine, she would still strongly resist.

”If you have time, please dig up some more for me. I really need them. I’ve also been stockpiling medicine lately. If you ever need any in the future, you can just ask me for it. I won’t charge you! After all, I’m already collecting my payment now. Hahaha.”

Hua Buwan patted Ling Qianjun’s shoulder like a close buddy and continued, ”Our modern medicines act fast and are convenient for you to use. Once you settle down in Lingnan, you’ll definitely need them. We have very strict control over medical supplies here, so I can’t hoard a lot all at once. But accumulating them slowly is fine. It’ll still take you two or three months to reach Lingnan. That’s plenty of time.”

”Then I won’t hold back. I’ll definitely ask you for them when the time comes,” Ling Qianjun said solemnly, thinking of those small pills Hua Buwan had given him before.

Those pills were so easy to carry around, and he could already think of many things he could do with them on hand. In Dongxuan Country, catching a cold was a life-threatening matter, but for Hua Buwan, a few small pills could solve it completely. Hearing her mention things like highly effective hemostatic agents and anti-inflammatory drugs made his heart surge with excitement just thinking about it.

GROWL.

After chatting for a while, Hua Buwan’s stomach began to protest in dissatisfaction. Chen Jingjing had rushed off to attend a banquet, leaving her to come back alone, and she hadn’t eaten anything yet.

Hearing the noise, Ling Qianjun frowned. ”You haven’t eaten yet? Didn’t you go out with your friend?” He wondered why she hadn’t eaten before coming back since it was already dark.

Hua Buwan smiled and waved her hand dismissively. ”Nope, but it doesn’t matter. There’s so much food in the supermarket. I can just find something to tide me over.”

”We happen to be roasting fish right now. Do you want some? Should I go over and get one for you?” Ling Qianjun said, staring into Hua Buwan’s eyes.

”Hmm? Roasted fish?” Hua Buwan’s eyes lit up. She wondered if this ancient roasted fish would be just as delicious as the incredibly fragrant roast chicken Ling Qianjun had brought over last time.

Seeing her reaction, Ling Qianjun understood immediately. He turned and headed toward the back door. ”Wait for me a moment.”

With that, he carried the small crabs, seashells, and conches, and crossed back over.

Hua Buwan swallowed hard and stopped fighting her cravings. She walked over to the burlap sacks and prepared a large bag, planning to give Ling Qianjun’s family some longans to eat. She figured that since he treated her so well, she ought to treat him well in return. So she packed a massive bag—enough for four people to eat to their hearts’ content.
