Hijacking the Timeline

”I admit there was an element of luck involved, but I did improve the cultivation exercises,” Feng Qi said, looking earnestly at Wang Jinsheng.

Hearing this, Wang Jinsheng fell into deep thought.

He had thoroughly investigated Feng Qi’s background. He knew Feng Qi’s parents had been members of a domain combat team who disappeared during an operation to dispel a Domain Field. As a result, Feng Qi had always been alone, residing at the school.

The school operated under strict isolation protocols, making it impossible for Feng Qi to have contact with anyone outside the campus.

As for anyone within the school, Wang Jinsheng genuinely doubted anyone had the capability to improve the cultivation exercises, which had been refined through countless revisions by predecessors.

Feng Qi’s claim that he had improved the exercises through haphazard experimentation seemed to be the only plausible explanation.

Remembering Feng Qi’s earlier indisposition, Wang Jinsheng ventured a guess:

”Your discomfort this morning—was it related to your reckless modifications of the cultivation exercises?”

”I’m not sure. I can’t rule it out, but I can’t confirm it either.”

Until he unraveled the secrets of the mysterious dream realm, Feng Qi had no intention of revealing his true abilities. He chose to give a disingenuous answer.

”Never try things recklessly again,” Wang Jinsheng warned, patting Feng Qi’s shoulder with concern. ”The pathways of cultivation techniques are connected to the body’s acupoints, and there are many vital points. If you mess up, you could end up paralyzed or completely crippled. Wait until you’ve learned more about improving cultivation techniques before experimenting again!” His expression turned serious.

”Feng Qi, I have a request. I hope you’ll agree.”

”Go ahead, but I’m not promising anything.” Despite his words, Feng Qi already suspected what Old Wang of history class wanted to discuss.

”I want to send your modified cultivation exercises to the Tiger Soul Research Institute. They’ll test your improvements, and if the results are promising, the exercises will be promoted worldwide. You’ll receive recognition and rewards, which will greatly benefit your future.”

”No problem!” Feng Qi agreed without hesitation.

Wang Jinsheng’s face lit up with a smile. ”You rascal! You’re a credit to my teaching. You haven’t disappointed me.”

”Of course! You always told us that personal gain can’t compare to the future of humanity. That’s why I came to you—to promote my improved cultivation exercises.”

”A promising young man!”

”No, it’s thanks to your excellent guidance, Teacher!”

After exchanging compliments, Feng Qi suddenly asked, ”By the way, Old Wang, would you like me to demonstrate the exercises a few more times?”

”Yes, let me watch again. I want to see if there are any subtle differences.”

Feng Qi took two steps back, settled into position, and began performing the cultivation exercises again. He paused at key points to allow Wang Jinsheng to observe more clearly.

Having meticulously studied instructional videos in the database, Feng Qi explained the crucial aspects of each movement, deepening Wang Jinsheng’s understanding of the future version of the cultivation exercises.

After watching Feng Qi’s demonstration, Wang Jinsheng quickly grasped the fundamentals. He followed Feng Qi’s movements, already executing them with remarkable precision.

By Feng Qi’s third demonstration, Wang Jinsheng had completely mastered the exercises and synchronized his breathing with the movements.

After stopping, Feng Qi gazed at Wang Jinsheng, who was still deep in thought, and asked, ”Old Wang, have you ever considered leaving teaching?”

Wang Jinsheng, startled from his contemplation, looked puzzled before shaking his head. ”I did, but I gave up the idea!”

”Why? Everyone in the school knows that with your graduation grades, you could have had much better opportunities. Staying here is a complete waste of your talent. Some even say you chose this easy life as a teacher because you’re afraid of fighting domain creatures—that you’re a coward.”

Wang Jinsheng knew perfectly well whether he was a coward or not. What he wanted to understand was why Wang Jinsheng had turned down the opportunity to work at the Tiger Soul Research Institute after graduation, choosing instead to stay and teach here.

Hearing this, Wang Jinsheng couldn’t help but laugh and scold, ”Why do you care so much? Go back and study. If you’re not feeling well, go to bed early.”

”Can you tell me?” Feng Qi persisted.

Wang Jinsheng pondered for a moment, then picked up the wine bottle from the ground and took a long swig. ”I might as well tell you.”

”Originally, I hadn’t planned to become a teacher. After graduation, I intended to either join a domain combat team or enter the cultivation technique research institute to fix flaws in existing techniques, refine them, or develop entirely new cultivation methods. But an accident changed my mind.”

Seeing Feng Qi’s curious expression, Wang Jinsheng took another swig of wine and continued, ”Before graduation, we had a domain combat training exercise. Inside the Domain Field, my team was attacked by domain creatures. We fought fiercely and managed to carve out an escape route, but three of my comrades died.”

”Does that have something to do with why you didn’t want to work at the Tiger Soul Research Institute?” Feng Qi asked, his face puzzled.

”During that live combat test, I witnessed the cowardice and fear buried deep within several of my comrades. Faced with domain creatures, they possessed the strength but lacked the courage to fight back, even nearly dragging down the entire team. From that moment, I realized something crucial: physical weakness can be cured, but spiritual cowardice is incurable.”

”After the mission, I thought long and hard and ultimately made a decision: I would abandon the opportunity to work at the Tiger Soul Research Institute and become a history teacher instead, addressing the root of the problem.”

Hearing these words, Feng Qi finally understood Wang Jinsheng’s true intentions.

Many secretly criticized Old Wang of history class for giving up out of cowardice, but Feng Qi believed he had sacrificed a rare opportunity for the sake of humanity’s future.

During his lectures, Wang Jinsheng maintained an unwavering seriousness, always firmly declaring that humanity would ultimately prevail.

He frequently recounted the history of humanity’s struggle against domain creatures, introducing the great figures who had made immense contributions and heroically sacrificed themselves for humanity, hoping they would serve as role models for his students.

He also regularly published articles on university forums, striving to inspire the spiritually weak and urging them to understand that only through relentless self-improvement and unwavering resistance could humanity secure its future.

Though Wang Jinsheng appeared carefree and spontaneous, he carried immense pressure within him. He yearned to spiritually awaken all of humanity and craved humanity’s ultimate victory more than anyone else.

Feng Qi gazed at Wang Jinsheng’s drunkenly blurred eyes and remained silent for a long moment before speaking:

”A teacher’s influence is ultimately limited. You can only change a portion of people, not everyone. I don’t think you should stay here. You should go to the Tiger Soul Research Institute and try your best. Perhaps you could develop a cultivation technique suitable for all of humanity. If you succeed, you’ll benefit all of humankind.”

Having consulted the future database, Feng Qi knew that Wang Jinsheng would eventually abandon teaching and return to the Tiger Soul Research Institute, embarking on a brilliant career. He would develop a series of cultivation techniques better suited for humans, making indelible historical contributions to humanity’s rise and earning him the title of a historical great.

Now, Feng Qi wanted to alter history, to awaken Wang Jinsheng’s realization sooner and guide him back to his destined path, rather than letting him waste his talents here.

”Developing a cultivation technique isn’t as simple as you think,” Wang Jinsheng shook his head and sighed, pulling a bottle of wine from a nearby cardboard box. He bit off the cap with his teeth and took a large swig. ”Even if I dedicated my entire life to it, I might not succeed. I’m not as capable as you imagine.”

”Someone has to step up. How will you know you can’t do it if you don’t even try? If you truly want humanity to achieve final victory, you must take the most difficult path. Just as I improved the cultivation exercises, if humanity had more such cultivation techniques, would we still fear domain creatures?”

Feng Qi’s words left Wang Jinsheng stunned.

As Feng Qi pointed out, he was just one man. Trying to awaken the weak through teaching had extremely limited impact.

But if he could develop a comprehensive cultivation technique, the situation would be entirely different. The technique would inevitably be widely disseminated, influencing all of humanity.

If there were more such refined techniques, allowing humans to cultivate strength surpassing that of domain creatures, we would no longer need to fear their invasions.

”Old Wang, I’m leaving now. Let’s chat again when we have time,” Feng Qi said, turning to leave.

Feng Qi didn’t know if he could change the future, but he wanted to try.

”Someone has to step up”—this wasn’t just a message for Wang Jinsheng, but also for himself.

He couldn’t predict what the future held, but as long as he had given his best effort, he would have no regrets.

Watching Feng Qi’s retreating figure, Wang Jinsheng’s mind was in turmoil.

After hearing Feng Qi’s words, he discovered a sudden surge of impulse within him, as if a seed had taken root deep in his heart and was now sprouting uncontrollably.

The path of developing cultivation techniques was fraught with difficulties, but someone had to step forward. Why couldn’t that person be me?

”Damn brat, you’ve actually made me waver,” Wang Jinsheng muttered, a spark of fighting spirit igniting in his eyes.

At that moment, the butterfly’s wings fluttered subtly, altering the course of reality.

Without him noticing, the dark clouds in the sky had dispersed.

Wang Jinsheng looked up to see a radiant full moon hanging high above, surrounded by a dazzling array of stars.
