Hijacking the Timeline

Under the cold moonlight, a figure slowly rose from a pile of withered bones.

Feng Qi lowered his head to examine his nearly decomposed body and the stark white bones protruding from his arm, his expression one of stunned disbelief.

He vividly remembered being in Old Wang’s history class just moments before, when a wave of drowsiness had overwhelmed him, causing him to slump onto his desk and fall asleep.

When he opened his eyes again, this was the scene before him.

Dark clouds hung low in the sky, and the ground was covered in mountains of withered bones. He had risen from the midst of this macabre landscape.

Even more terrifying was the inexplicable decay of his own body. Through the gaping hole in his chest, he could clearly see the shriveled, rotting gray organs within, and the ribs scarred with deep gashes.

This isn’t right. It must just be a hyperrealistic dream.

Slap!

No pain. Yep, definitely a dream!

But the real question is... how the hell do I get out of here?!

As Feng Qi frantically racked his brain for a solution, a low growl echoed from his right. He turned to see a rotting corpse, previously lying motionless in the bone pile, slowly rising to its feet.

The living dead’s right shinbone was broken, causing it to stumble as it tried to stand. A sharp crack of dislocated bone echoed through the air as the creature performed an impromptu split, collapsing into a seated position.

Feng Qi almost applauded, but the living dead snarled and lunged at him with its withered right arm.

Startled, Feng Qi immediately retreated two steps, narrowly avoiding the creature’s claws and teeth.

Undeterred, the living dead continued to crawl forward, its jaws snapping hungrily as if desperate for a bite.

”If this is a dream, the details are too real,” Feng Qi muttered, retreating another two steps. Glancing back, he noticed a skeleton hanging from a withered tree behind him and casually grabbed its right shinbone.

”Borrowing your leg for self-defense!” he declared, yanking the bone free with a sharp tug.

Turning back to face the living dead, he saw it had already closed the distance. Without hesitation, Feng Qi stepped forward and slammed the shinbone down on the creature’s head.

Crack!

The bone snapped with a sharp crack.

”His bones were severely osteoporotic in life,” Feng Qi muttered, examining the broken femur in his hand.

Fortunately, the graveyard was littered with bones. After swapping it for a sturdier one, he swung again at the living dead’s head.

This time, the blow had an effect.

The living dead began to tremble violently.

Under the moonlight, Feng Qi could clearly see a small, heart-like sphere pulsing slowly within the living dead’s cracked skull.

The femur had grazed this sphere during the previous strike, causing the creature to convulse.

Feng Qi surmised that this sphere might be the living dead’s weak point. He raised the femur high, aimed carefully, and smashed it down on the sphere with all his might.

Splat!

The sphere shattered. The living dead instantly went still, and a wave of putrid stench washed over Feng Qi, nearly making him vomit his guts out.

Wait... why can I smell this? Isn’t this a dream?

Just as Feng Qi was puzzling over this, a crimson speck of light emerged from the living dead’s corpse and burrowed into his body.

Immediately afterward, a series of messages flashed through Feng Qi’s mind:

Weak Living Dead: Feng Qi

After reviewing the information in his mind, another line of text appeared:

As a newly awakened bloodline evolver, you are filled with confusion and countless questions. Determined to uncover the secrets of this world, you resolve to grow stronger quickly!

What the hell is this?

The sudden appearance of this narrative voice in his mind caught Feng Qi completely off guard.

But he had no intention of following the narrator’s suggestion to grow stronger. Right now, he only wanted to return to reality and end this terrible ”dream.”

You turn to the east and notice numerous living dead figures swaying in the distance. To gather bloodline energy and trigger your evolution, you prepare to brutally slaughter them!

Feng Qi: ...

No, I don’t want to.

Feng Qi tossed aside the leg bone and turned to walk in the opposite direction.

After a few steps, he noticed that the western area was shrouded in a thick fog, through which countless ghostly figures flitted. Listening closely, he could hear intermittent, low murmurs, creating an eerie and terrifying atmosphere.

Feng Qi had never been one to shy away from danger, but to uncover the secrets of this dream realm, he decided to avoid unnecessary risks for now. He turned back and headed east toward the living dead territory.

Even now, Feng Qi refused to fully accept the reality of his transmigration.

Just minutes ago, he had been a handsome, cheerful young man on the verge of graduation, looking forward to a bright future... or perhaps the harsh realities of society.

Either way, it was far better than his current predicament. Now he was a thinking, living dead creature, hideously ugly and unbearably foul-smelling. Feng Qi found it hard to accept.

He wasn’t asking to become an immortal swordsman, to live forever, or to have beauties flock to him, a harem of three thousand concubines, or even to transmigrate as a family outcast with a cheat-like system and a trash-tier start.

But at least let me start as a human!

Looking down at his mangled body, Feng Qi couldn’t bear to look at it, his face twisted in disgust.

When he tried to sniff the stench emanating from his body, he nearly fainted from the overwhelming stench.

This was practically a hellish start.

Having transmigrated into such a state, Feng Qi felt utterly unmotivated to become stronger, thinking it would be better to just die.

But thoughts were just thoughts. When it came down to it, he couldn’t bring himself to end his life.

Now, his immediate priority was to figure out where he was and why he had ended up here.

As he moved forward, the path was littered with dry bones, each step accompanied by a constant ”crunch.” His feet occasionally sank into the bone piles, requiring considerable effort to pull free and continue.

In the distance, dozens of living dead stood motionless, their bodies swaying gently in the wind.

The scene was eerie, but fortunately, Feng Qi possessed remarkable mental fortitude, feeling only a slight twinge of nervousness.

He decided to follow the instructions in his mind, first attempting to kill a few living dead to observe the changes that would occur after his evolution.

Approaching the living dead’s territory, Feng Qi halted.

Since the living dead were clustered closely together, he cautiously tossed a dry bone at the nearest one, hoping to draw its attention.

The bone arced through the air, landing precisely behind the closest living dead with a clatter.

Yet the creature remained rooted in place, seemingly oblivious to the sound behind it.

Realizing the living dead were incapable of sensing their surroundings, Feng Qi’s courage swelled.

Picking up a bone at random, he slammed it against the ground twice to test its hardness, then boldly took several steps forward.

Just then, a dozen or so living dead in the distance collectively turned, their hollow eyes fixing on Feng Qi.

A chorus of low, guttural roars rose and fell as they lurched forward, their bodies twisting as they shambled toward him.

Fuck!

Feng Qi, who had been preparing to unleash hell, immediately spun around and bolted.

But before he could take two steps, a sharp crack of bone breaking sounded beneath his feet, and his body suddenly sank.

Shit!

Having failed to watch his footing, Feng Qi’s left leg had crushed a brittle bone and become trapped. He couldn’t pull it free.

The dozen living dead were closing in. Panic surged through Feng Qi as he frantically tugged at his trapped leg, desperate to stand.

But the living dead gave him no chance. They swarmed him, tearing into his flesh with savage hunger.

Though he felt no pain, the trauma shattered Feng Qi’s young mind.

He~tui! Eating your own kind? You bastards!

Come at me one-on-one! What’s the point of ganging up?

Am I really going to die right after transmigrating? Next time I reincarnate, please give me a newbie starter pack!

As his consciousness faded, he faintly heard the crisp crunch of bones being chewed near his ear. Then, darkness swallowed him whole.

Snap!

A piece of chalk arced gracefully through the air, landing squarely on Feng Qi’s head.

”Feng Qi! I told you to stand up and answer the question! Did you hear me?!”

Feng Qi, who had been slumped over his desk, snapped his eyes open and slowly lifted his head. Everything before him was so familiar:

Old Wang, the history teacher, stood at the podium, his face flushed with anger. Mo Fei, his deskmate, roommate, and best friend, was pinching Feng Qi’s right thigh. The rest of the class stared at him in stunned silence.

Even the air seemed sweet.

I’m back!

Snap! An eraser struck his right cheek with pinpoint accuracy, leaving a white streak as it slid down.

”Feng Qi! I’m telling you one last time—stand up and answer the question!”

Watching Old Wang grip the edge of the podium and slowly lift it, Feng Qi had no doubt that if he didn’t respond, the teacher would hurl the entire desk at him.

A wise man knows when to retreat. He slapped Mo Fei’s hand off his thigh and stood up.

”Mr. Wang, I’m here!”
