Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Dao Field, another trial

Eldest Brother Hui squinted his eyes, his figure rapidly circling around Xiao Yu, the ’toy gun’ in his hand continuously firing, shooting out special bullets one after another.

At present, Eldest Brother Hui can fire three types of bullets: explosive flame bullets, jumping bullets that refract twice, and fist bullets with attack power comparable to sniper bullets.

At this moment, bullets were almost ceaselessly firing at Xiao Yu from all directions.

Eldest Brother Hui can maintain reloading actions while shooting at high speed, which alone makes 99% of players drop to their knees and shout 666.

’Elite level gun fighting skill, no wonder.’

In the crowd, Gao Gong’s special small account, Rich Lady’s Little Wolf Dog, was silently observing.

As one of the few high-end players who can ’repel’ the Mechanical Blade Masters, Eldest Brother Hui earned a large amount of task points, giving him the qualification to choose some higher-level modifications.

For example, the wrist—

Wrist Bone Modification (Fine): Grind eight pieces of the human wrist bone, readjust the structure of the scaphoid, lunate, triquetral, and pisiform bones to make them more suitable for holding firearms, Perception +1, when using firearms, attack speed +10%, critical strike rate +5%

At this moment, Eldest Brother Hui’s bullets were fast and steady, almost forming a continuous stream. Combined with his bullets’ special effects, finally, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but take action.

Over twenty thousand mechanical energy pushed the girl’s swordsmanship to a terrifying level, almost the moment she struck, Eldest Brother Hui felt a suffocating pressure, as if facing an endless steel torrent.

’Aura AOE!’

Relying on a danger perception honed from sparring with many cloned brothers, Eldest Brother Hui instinctively dived to the side, the violent blade slicing through the ground, adding another scar to the pitted cement.

”Dodged it!”

The crowd of players exclaimed, because once that move was executed, 90% of players would perish.

Not only did he dodge it, but he also threw two smoke bombs during the process.

Thick smoke covered most of the Dao Field.

The next moment, the dense gunfire was different from normal guns, resembling the loud bang of a fire blunderbuss.

The smoke from the smoke bomb was violently dispersed.

Xiao Yu saw a blurred figure frantically fleeing at the edge of the smoke.

Xiao Yu’s Snake Blade shot out like a venomous serpent towards the figure.

A head flew into the sky.

A flicker of surprise crossed Xiao Yu’s eyes. Even though she hadn’t used her full strength in the battle just now, she hadn’t held back either.

As the smoke cleared, the ’head’ revealed its true form, it was a top hat that Eldest Brother Hui had grabbed and pressed on his head.

The brim of the hat visibly had a new crack.

”Looks like I’ve passed.”

Eldest Brother Hui calmly left the field, while the players below were even more excited than he was.

”666.”

”High-end player!”

”What a badass baby.”

”What baby, that’s Boss Hui!”

Then, another group of players stepped up to challenge. In reality, the truly threatening ones were the thirty or so who had come first. Their levels not only did not drop but even increased by one or two levels due to task rewards, combined with prosthetic body modifications, their combat power had reached a new level.

Since these thirty or so players failed, naturally, the other players were even less reliable.

Baozi, Big Muscle Dominator, and Plane, these original small group members also went up to try but were quickly brushed off.

”A generation of new people replaces the old,” I am a Big Muscle Dominator said sourly, ”Even my newly installed biceps can’t make up for the experience I’ve lost.”

Baozi shrugged, taking things lightly: ”The more high-end players there are, the higher the probability of completing the task chain, it’s not a bad thing.”

”Plane, how are you getting weaker? Where did you get modified?” Red Flower Demon asked puzzled.

Plane waved silently, which was very rare for a chatterbox like him.

”Brother, aren’t you going to try?” Baozi looked at the Rich Lady’s Little Wolf Dog and asked.

”I’ll pass, I’m just an ordinary pay-to-win player.” Little Wolf Dog humbly said.

The second player to pass soon emerged, it was that strange player holding a lantern called ’I Will Always Love Zhang Aiping’.

This player’s skills were peculiar. He could summon holographic projections through the lantern, Xiao Yu destroyed most of the projections with three strikes but still couldn’t find the main body, allowing him to pass safely.

Are holographic projections that impressive?

Many players wondered to themselves, since these things are sold on the market, should they buy one to lure enemies?

Only Gao Gong could see through it, holographic technology was just the surface, the real reason was that bizarre lantern and his own modification—AI Totem (Basic Version).

With the lantern’s aid, he scattered the AI Totem across each holographic projection, the sensory data was running wild everywhere, greatly confusing Xiao Yu’s perception.

Otherwise, how could this little angel with such combat intuition not detect the true body?

Business Investigator, this hidden profession Gao Gong had heard of in a previous life, is a profession found only in monopoly enterprises, or rather, Level 5 Corporations.

This profession involves investigating hidden data and researching the system operation of the Planet Main Brain, to help these corporations determine new technological projects and directions.

It somewhat resembles the re-employment of retired officials.

Except in this Cyber Test Field, such research is very dangerous and could easily lead to all sorts of fatal accidents.

If one had to say, this profession is also a kind of business spy, just leaning on the mysterious side.

’Business Investigator, interesting, I’ll mark you, should be useful.’

Generally, Business Investigators are die-hards selected from thousands, almost impossible to betray—unless they’re players.

As Gao Gong pondered on how to mobilize the players’ initiative, an exclamation resounded.

The third contestant emerged, surprisingly not a player from the first batch to reach Red Rain Street.

```
That means, the other person has died once.
Xiao Yu’s small mouth opened slightly, looking both dumb and cute.
In front of her was a Trial Taker who was almost cut down to a wooden stick. His shoulder, abdomen, and head bore three deep knife scars, revealing bones, cutting through muscles, cracking tendons and bones, and reaching deep into the organs.
As a kind-hearted girl, Xiao Yu would never accidentally injure someone during a trial.
And ’Ting Ri Shi Me’ relied on this point to take three blows head-on.
Although Xiao Yu avoided the vital spots with each strike, seeing the opponent’s abdomen with its throbbing insides and the brain gaps revealing a ’tofu brain’, such injuries would have already drained the blood volume of any normal player.
Yet, this person in front of her smiled like a goofy dog, holding his abdomen to stop the organs from leaking out, while excitedly approaching.
”Little Sister Xiao, can I take a photo with you?”
”Uh, oh, okay.”
During the photo-taking moment, a substantial amount of flesh and blood burst from the wounds, and by the time the photo was taken, the injuries were mostly mended.
Though the result looked a bit ugly.
After getting the photo, Ting Ri Shi Me looked as happy as he could be.
”Brother, what’s your profession?” A player from the audience couldn’t help but ask.
”I’m in research.”
”What kind of research?”
”Being researched by others.”
While they were talking, two NPCs in white lab coats rushed in. One NPC gave Ting Ri Shi Me an injection, while the other took out handcuffs and cuffed him.
Ting Ri Shi Me wasn’t surprised, letting them push him away, while walking he said:
”Brothers, my parole is over, I probably can’t join in on the next part of the mission. Do your best, I’ll cheer for you from the lab!”
Finishing his words, Ting Ri Shi Me’s head slumped, and he neatly passed out, and then, like a fat pig ready for processing, he was carried away by several NPC experimenters.
”...” A group of players.
After a while, Baozi squeezed out a sentence, ”This brother, he’s got some balls!”
The plane looked at himself and sighed.
Soon, the fifth mission was refreshed—
[Mission Fifth: Slicing the Over River Dragon]
Difficulty: Difficult
Task Brief: Welfare Gang’s Dragon Head Gao Jin’s ambition is to become the new king of the street world, to establish a criminal empire of his own. He is ruthless towards rival gangs, often conducting massacre-style cleansings. His ambition has spread too much evil—psychoactive drug factories, illegal human organ trade, places of privatized punishment, weapon smuggling, data addiction. What we must do is to completely destroy his ambition.
Mission Objectives: Wipe out all Welfare Gang bases and kill Dragon Head Gao Jin.
Mission Duration: Ten days (calculated from the time of mission release)
Mission Rewards:
Destroy a small base, Experience +5000
Destroy a medium base, Experience +8000
Destroy a large base, Experience +10000
Destroy the headquarters of Welfare Gang, Experience +20000
Kill an outer member of Welfare Gang, Experience +200 points
Kill a regular member, Experience +500 points
Kill a Welfare Gang elite, Experience +2000 points
Kill a Double Flower Red Staff, Experience +10000 points
Kill Gao Jin, the head of Welfare Gang, Experience +100000 points
Note 1: This task is the final link of the mission chain, unique, and will not refresh after release.
Note 2: Mission contribution can be exchanged at Experience*0.01
Note 3: The higher the completion, the greater the possibility of a new force entering; conversely, if all players die or the mission time expires with less than 50% base destruction, the mission fails.
Note 4: Players can purchase guns, ammunition, and melee weapons from Little A as needed. Due to the high difficulty of the mission, AI Little A provides loan services, and players can exchange weapons based on expected earnings, more or less as needed.
Looking at this last mission that refreshed over several pages, the players were silent for a moment, then simultaneously shouted.
”What does it mean by a new force entering?”
”You can actually take a loan, do you have to pay it back?”
”Is Little Angel coming on board? Ah, I want to be Little Angel’s Flower Guardian!”
”Damn, even rocket launchers can be exchanged, do gang fights really get this exaggerated?”
...
On the river surface, a smuggling boat was sailing at a leisurely pace, the bearded captain was startled as he watched the strange people on the boat. Some were assembling advanced machinery at a glance, some were fishing, some stared blankly with a third eye open, some were playing with their metal limbs.
”Gao Da, stop fishing, quickly help me assemble the mecha, we’ll need it to enter the city.”
”Okay, Sister Xiaoju.”
A fair-skinned young man eagerly went over.
”Captain,” a crew member said softly.
”Don’t meddle, they chartered the whole boat, they’ve got connections.”
The bearded captain exhaled a puff of smoke, muttering to himself, ”Another Strong Dragon Crossing the River, huh.”
