Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

The night was desolate. Around this mountaintop resort, it was all rather barren forest, with relatively few zombies.

Plus Luo and his men were patrolling, so this mountaintop resort was relatively safe.

Inside the resort it was empty and echoing; everything that could be taken had already been looted.

Only some bulky, immovable furniture remained, all of it coated in dust.

The genuine-leather sofa was full of cracked splits, all caused by the extreme heat and cold.

After finishing the combat plan discussion with Third Uncle, Li Yu went downstairs back to ground level.

Chew-chew-chew——

A nightingale was calling, its song echoing through the mountains and forest.

An old man climbed down from the armored transport, none other than the professor Zhang Shuqi who knew seven languages, the one they’d met during the day.

His face was pale. On the way here, including just now when he helped Dapao interrogate those Myanmar scammers, he had watched Dapao’s interrogation methods with his own eyes.

High intensity the whole way through, which had shocked his soul to its core; blood and severed limbs were flowing on the floor of the armored transport.

Even though he had survived in the Doomsday for so long, in under six hours today he’d taken a high-density visual pounding that left an indelible mark on him.

Thud!

Dapao jumped down from the armored transport, wiped at the blood on his hands that hadn’t dried yet with a rag.

After Dapao stepped down, he saw Zhang Shuqi and said, ”Teacher Zhang, we really owed it to you helping with the translation. Otherwise I’d never have gotten the location of the Myanmar scammers’ nest out of them, and I wouldn’t be able to report to Director Li.”

Zhang Shuqi was half bent over, body leaning forward, dry-heaving over there, but there was nothing in his stomach, so nothing would come out.

Hearing Dapao’s words, Old Zhang waved his hand to say no need to be polite.

Dapao said with a grin, ”Teacher Zhang, come eat something with us. We’ve been busy all day, our stomachs are about to cave in.”

Zhang Shuqi straightened up, face still pale; he really was a bit hungry.

He’d had some food before, but it had all been confiscated by those scammers, and he hadn’t eaten anything the whole day.

He felt a little embarrassed, but he really was starving, so he didn’t refuse Dapao’s invitation.

He nodded and said, ”Thank you. As for food, I’ll think of a way to get some for you later.”

Hearing that, Dapao shook his head and said, ”Brother Yu said, you came to help us with translation, that’s a contribution too. We’ll feed you!”

With that, he took Zhang Shuqi over to the logistics staff and drew some food, giving Zhang Shuqi a portion.

Zhang Shuqi took the new aluminum tray. On it were two flatbreads and some cooked canned pork, which surprised him.

In the Doomsday, grain was scarce; he hadn’t expected these people to maintain this level of food supply. That meant the Big Camphor Tree Base wasn’t short on grain.

He didn’t stand on ceremony. Once he had the food, he squatted by a step and started eating.

He tore into the hot flatbread in big bites, then scooped up a chunk of pork with a spoon and shoved it into his mouth.

”Mm~”

Zhang Shuqi closed his eyes in contentment; it had been ages since he’d last eaten meat.

At first he ate slowly, but as he went on he ate faster and faster, finally stuffing the remaining half of the flatbread into his mouth in one large bite.

He wolfed it down too fast and his throat got a bit choked, so his face flushed red as he stood up, looking around for water.

Just then, a hand appeared in front of him, holding a bottle of water.

Zhang Shuqi hurriedly took it and gulped down two big swallows. Only after he’d managed to push the food down his esophagus did he raise his head gratefully and say, ”Thanks.”

As he looked up, he realized the one handing him the water was Li Yu.

His expression changed and he quickly stood up; he knew full well that the leader of this unit was this young man.

”Director Li, thank you.” Zhang Shuqi said gratefully.

”Got enough to eat? I’ve got more here.” Li Yu said cheerfully, casually handing over another flatbread.

Zhang Shuqi quickly said, ”It’s enough, it’s enough, thank you, Director Li.”

He said thank you three times in a row, and Li Yu laughed and said, ”You’re really polite.”

Then he just plopped down on the step beside him.

It was still early, and if he went to sleep now he wouldn’t be able to, so he’d simply come down to walk around.

”Director Li.” When Zhang Shuqi saw Li Yu sit down on the step, he sat down as well.

”Mm? What is it?” Li Yu glanced at him curiously, not sure what he was about to say.

”I wonder where Old Zhang and my students are now?” Zhang Shuqi asked.

To him, in these years of Doomsday, he, Old Zhang, and the students had lived and died together, gone through too many hardships side by side, and were already no different from family.

Li Yu stretched lazily and said slowly, ”Don’t worry. They’ve already arrived at the base. They’re safe.”

”That’s good, that’s good.” Zhang Shuqi smoothed down his hair that had been tousled by the wind.

His expression seemed a lot more relaxed.

Just then, a flickering point of light appeared in the distant sky, very faint.

Right after that, a burst of static came through the radio.

Bzz bzz bzz——

”Director Li, Captain, we’re almost there. Are those people on the mountaintop ahead your guys?”

Li Yu’s face lit up with joy; he quickly grabbed the radio and answered, ”Yeah, that’s us. You finally made it back; it’s been dark for two hours already. Hold on, I’ll have someone guide you in to land.”

With that, he shot to his feet.

He headed toward the pre-reserved landing zone in the middle.
