My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: That Kane Lloyd Is a Madman

The Chief quickly made the arrangements.

Captain Wright didn’t object. Before heading over, he even packed up a few meals from the cafeteria to take with him.

He figured they must be hungry after rushing all the way here, so bringing some food would be convenient for them to eat whenever they could.

When Captain Wright arrived, he found that Heath Hale had beaten him to the punch. Heath had already explained the situation to the Logan Grandparents and recruited Beau.

Captain Wright, who had planned to make his move after the case was over, gritted his teeth. But he had only himself to blame for being too slow, so there was nothing to say.

He briefly updated Zoe Sawyer and the other three on the progress. The information from the investigation the Chief had ordered soon reached Captain Wright’s hands.

Right after that, the Chief called, his voice laced with anxiety. ”Across the street from Kane Lloyd’s house is a late-night eatery that’s open no matter how late it gets. I just had someone go over and discreetly ask around. They said they never saw Kane Lloyd leave his house!

But his internet history is a bit off. He’s been following a novel and got into an argument with the author in the comments section. I’ve sent you the title, go take a look for yourself.”

Zoe Sawyer and the other three, who were listening nearby, didn’t waste any time. They pulled out their phones and, using the title the Chief had sent, quickly found the novel he was talking about.

They didn’t even have to scroll. The comments from their argument had been pushed to the very top.

After reading the comments from beginning to end, they finally understood how it all started.

It was a novel written from the perspective of a serial killer, and most of the descriptions were so graphic that Zoe Sawyer and the others couldn’t help but frown as they read.

Kane Lloyd was an avid fan of this book. He left comments on every Chapter, every section.

But in the latest case depicted, Kane Lloyd pointed out that some of the author’s descriptions were inaccurate. The author retorted, and their argument shifted from the plot of the novel to whether such a murder method would get you caught in real life.

The author even stated that with ideas like Kane Lloyd’s, it would be absolutely impossible to pull it off in reality—he would definitely be caught.

Finally, Kane Lloyd made a chilling threat: he would prove through his actions that he was right.

”I’ve looked it over. The killer’s methods are exactly the same as what Kane Lloyd described in the comments section,” Heath Hale said, frowning as he stared at the long post Kane Lloyd had written.

Both the massacre of the Lee Family and the tragic case of the young couple.

They matched Kane Lloyd’s description perfectly.

Just as they were looking, they scrolled down and a new comment appeared.

The commenter was none other than Kane Lloyd’s account!

”One last one to go. Tonight at eleven, I’ll use the case of the sister-in-law from your story as the grand finale.”

The five of them stared at the comment, goosebumps crawling up their skin.

Kane Lloyd had targeted his own former sister-in-law!

”Do you have any information on his former sister-in-law?” Evan Keller asked, looking at Captain Wright.

Captain Wright nodded and handed his phone to Evan Keller.

The file sent by the Chief included current information on Kane Lloyd’s former sister-in-law.

The former sister-in-law’s name was Rose Jennings. After her first husband’s death, she moved back in with her parents. Later, through a relative’s introduction, she met her current husband and married him two years ago.

They now have a daughter, and the family of three lives a happy and fulfilling life.

Looking at the information, Heath Hale quickly formulated a plan.

”We can’t be one hundred percent sure Kane Lloyd is the killer yet, so we need to prepare for two possibilities,” Heath Hale said to the other four, laying out his plan.

Zoe Sawyer and Evan Keller would stay behind with a small team.

As a woman, it would be easier for Sean Hughes to communicate with Rose Jennings than a man would, so she would be tasked with asking Rose about Kane Lloyd.

The police department would provide him with a few officers, and he would investigate Kane Lloyd’s current location and the area around his home.

Meanwhile, Captain Wright would take another team and lie in wait at Rose Jennings’s house.

If Kane Lloyd really was the killer and his target was indeed Rose Jennings, they would be able to capture him the moment he entered.

If their judgment was wrong—if Kane Lloyd was just running his mouth online with no intention of acting and the real killer was someone else—then Zoe Sawyer’s team would still be able to sense it and catch the person before the third crime occurred.

”Alright! No problem!”

Captain Wright, of course, had no objections. As things stood, this was the most logical plan.

Time was short. Once the plan was set, Evan Keller and the others wasted no time, splitting up to carry out their assigned tasks.

”Will we succeed this time?” Zoe Sawyer asked Evan Keller, who was beside her, as she checked her gear.

Evan Keller was also inspecting the gun he had just requisitioned. Hearing Zoe Sawyer’s question, he looked up at her, his voice full of conviction. ”We have to. We will definitely catch him!”

Whether it was for Zoe Sawyer’s future security or to save another innocent family...

This time, they could not afford to fail!

Meanwhile, on Sean Hughes’s end, she was unsure if Kane Lloyd was watching from nearby. To avoid revealing their presence, she chose to approach the house alone.

Rose Jennings looked at the strange woman at her door, frowning in confusion. Her eyes were filled with wariness. ”Hello, who are you looking for?”

”Hello, I’m looking for you. There’s something I’d like to ask you about,” Sean Hughes said, instantly recognizing the woman before her as her target for this trip, Rose Jennings.

She discreetly showed Rose the credentials in her hand.

Rose Jennings’s heart skipped a beat. ’Why are the police looking for me?’

’Don’t tell me something’s happened to my husband again?!’

’No, wait. Aren’t police officers supposed to travel in pairs? Why did only one person show up?’

’And from out of province?’

Before Rose Jennings could ask, two more people ran over from the side. Using their bodies for cover, they also showed her their credentials.

Sean Hughes smacked her own forehead. ’I completely forgot that officers are supposed to respond in pairs. Thank god my colleagues showed up to help, or that would have been hard to explain.’

”Please, come in!” Rose Jennings was on edge. Hearing her daughter crying from inside, she knew they couldn’t just stand at the door, so she led them into the living room.

Cradling her child, Rose Jennings asked anxiously, ”Officer, has something happened to my husband?”

”Why are you so sure it’s your husband?” Sean Hughes raised an eyebrow in surprise. It seemed the events of five years ago had dealt her a significant blow.

But time was tight, and Sean Hughes was in no mood for small talk. She briefly recounted the situation and then asked, ”Ms. Jennings, we came here today hoping to learn a little about Kane Lloyd. What kind of person is he?”

Hearing Kane Lloyd’s name again after five years, Rose Jennings instinctively hugged the child in her arms tighter.

Only when the child let out an uncomfortable whimper did she seem to snap out of it, loosening her grip.

”Kane Lloyd... he’s a madman! To force me to sign a letter of forgiveness, he sliced open both sides of his own mouth!”
