Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Hearing the doctor’s words, Chloe Reed’s face instantly went pale. She looked at Walker Grant in disbelief, her lips trembling slightly, but for a long moment, she couldn’t utter a single word.

”Don’t be afraid. He’s just trying to scare you. I’m not poisoned. The wound just wasn’t treated in time, so it’s a little inflamed, that’s all.” Seeing her expression, Walker Grant was pleased, yet also felt a pang of sadness. He smiled at her, trying to soothe her.

The doctor gave him a strange look and then said, ”You should go to a proper hospital. I can’t handle a problem like this in my small clinic.”

Walker Grant said, ”Just give me an anti-inflammatory shot.”

The doctor’s brow furrowed. ”I told you, I can’t handle it. You...”

But before he could finish, his eyes met Walker Grant’s cold gaze.

Though the man looked sickly and pale, he projected an exceptionally cold aura and carried himself with a noble, extraordinary air. That one frigid glance sent an invisible pressure bearing down, and the doctor felt as if his very soul had trembled.

’This man is not someone I can afford to provoke!’

The doctor subconsciously wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said hesitantly, ”I can give you the shot, but... if-if something happens to you, you can’t blame me. You’re the one insisting I do it. I did try to warn you.”

”If something happens to me, it will have nothing to do with you,” Walker Grant said coolly.

’The anti-inflammatory shot will temporarily keep my condition in check. I can’t collapse now. If something happened to me, what would Chloe do?’

The doctor began to prepare the medication, extremely careful the entire time.

Chloe Reed had been standing silently to the side. It wasn’t until she saw Walker Grant get the shot that she finally spoke. ”I... I’m going to the restroom.”

Walker Grant said, ”Have Daniel Hayes go with you.”

He paused, then added, ”But don’t let him get too close.”

”Okay.”

Chloe Reed agreed.

She turned and left the examination room. The clinic was actually very small; the restroom was just around a corner.

But she didn’t go into the restroom. Instead, she walked out of the clinic and went to the side of the road, stopping under a tree.

Life in the small town was very laid-back. People gathered in twos and threes to chat, while others bustled along their way.

A chill spread through Chloe Reed’s body.

She sent a message to Daniel Hayes, telling him to come out and meet her.

In less than a minute, Daniel Hayes appeared before her. The rugged-faced man wore a cautious expression as he looked at her and asked, ”Miss Chloe, what can I do for you?”

Chloe Reed’s long lashes fluttered. She lifted her gaze to him. ”When was he injured?”

”Well...” Daniel Hayes reached up to scratch the back of his head, hesitating, unsure how to begin.

He had promised Walker Grant he would keep it a secret.

”First of all, you’re my bodyguard. I hired you. My grandmother watched you grow up. Do you really want my grandmother to find out that you’re disloyal?”

”No,” Daniel Hayes said immediately. ”If Grandma Sutton found out, she’d definitely chew me out. I don’t mind getting yelled at a bit, but what if she gets so angry she falls ill?”

The worry on his face was genuine.

”Then tell me exactly how Walker Grant got injured,” Chloe Reed said, her eyes turning a few shades colder as she spoke, word by word.

”Sigh... Alright, I’ll tell you.” Daniel Hayes agonized for a moment, then realized he couldn’t hide it any longer and decided to come clean.
