Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

”That’s not important.”

Chloe Reed said coolly, ”I came to you because I think I’m being watched.”

Walker Grant’s coughing grew more violent, his face turning even paler. He grabbed her hand, pulled her into his room, and shut the door. Only then did he manage to ask with difficulty, ”What’s going on? COUGH, COUGH...”

A complicated look crossed Chloe Reed’s face. She turned, poured a glass of water, and handed it to him. ”Here, drink this. I’m afraid you’re going to cough yourself to death.”

Walker Grant: ”...”

’Her words were harsh, but she was willing to get me water. That means I’m in her heart, right?’

He took the glass and had a couple of sips. His coughing subsided a little, and he offered a pale smile. ”Chloe, thank you.”

Chloe Reed ignored him, proceeding to tell him what had happened at the tourist site and her uneasy feeling.

Walker Grant nodded. ”I’ll question the bodyguards again and see if they’ve noticed anyone suspicious around you.”

Chloe Reed grunted in acknowledgment before saying, ”If you’re really that sick, go to the hospital. What happens if you die from putting it off?”

Walker Grant’s dark eyes lit up. ”Are you that worried I might die?”

”Of course,” Chloe Reed replied without hesitation, her clear eyes fixed on him. ”We have a deal, after all. You have too many things to help me with, and you have to protect me. If you die, who’s going to protect me? Who’s going to help me deal with Vera Holloway?”

Walker Grant: ”...”

’She’s spelling it out so clearly. She’s obviously trying to stick a knife in my heart, isn’t she?’

”COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!”

His emotions stirred, he couldn’t stop himself from coughing. This fit was even more violent than the last, and he felt as if the wound on his chest was about to split open.

He nodded between coughs. ”COUGH... I get it. I’ll see a doctor. You should go back for now... COUGH, COUGH, COUGH...”

Chloe Reed: ”...”

After a moment of silence, she took out her phone and called Daniel Hayes.

”Miss Chloe!”

Daniel Hayes sounded excited, as if he hadn’t expected her to be willing to contact him.

Chloe Reed said, ”Take Walker Grant to the hospital.”

Daniel Hayes: ”...Uh, okay.”

With that, Chloe Reed hung up the phone.

She left Walker Grant’s room and returned to her own.

Next door.

Daniel Hayes quickly entered the room. Looking at Walker Grant’s pale face, he asked, ”Are you really alright?”

Walker Grant asked, ”Is everything ready?”

”Yes.” Daniel Hayes nodded, then added, ”Several groups have been around, asking about you. We really can’t stay here any longer.”

”Is the anesthetic ready?” A chilling glint surfaced in Walker Grant’s dark eyes.

Daniel Hayes nodded. ”It’s all been prepared, just as you instructed.”

”We leave in an hour.” Walker Grant closed his eyes. ”Wake me up in half an hour.”

He needed to conserve his energy so he could get Chloe Reed out of here. This wasn’t the right place to face those people head-on.

’Since those people had already tracked them down, the confrontation would have to be on his terms.’

”Alright.”

...

Chloe Reed went back to her room, took a shower, video-chatted with the old madam for a bit, and then spoke a few words to Noah.

The little boy was thrilled to see her, asking in a soft voice, ”Are Auntie and Uncle having fun playing outside?”

Chloe Reed nodded. ”Yes, we’re having a great time. We’ll have your uncle bring you here someday, too.”

Noah blinked his dark eyes and asked, ”Auntie, do you really not want Uncle anymore?”
