Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

The villa courtyard was pitch-black, and his figure gradually vanished into the darkness.

Chloe Reed’s grip on the steering wheel tightened as she struggled to control her emotions.

’Don’t get worked up. Stay calm!’

The court date hadn’t arrived yet. Nothing was certain.

’He agreed tonight, but what if he regrets it tomorrow?’

’After all, he’s always going back on his word.’

Chloe Reed closed her eyes. Only after composing herself did she drive away.

After returning to Maplewood Gardens, she showered and changed before heading to the hospital.

She had grown accustomed to staying by her grandmother’s side every night.

「The next morning.」

”You seem to be in a good mood. Did something wonderful happen?” her grandmother asked kindly, noticing her cheerful expression.

Chloe Reed lifted her chin slightly. ”I can’t say just yet,” she said. ”I’ll tell you in a few days.”

”Alright, keeping secrets from me now, are we?” Her grandmother nodded. ”I’ll be waiting for you to share the good news, then.”

”Mm-hmm.”

Chloe Reed nodded. She had breakfast with her grandmother and waited for the doctor’s rounds before leaving for work.

For most of the day, she couldn’t keep the smile off her face.

However, when she received a phone call that afternoon, the smile instantly vanished from her face.

”Chloe Reed, your grandmother is gone!”

The call was from a nurse at the hospital, her voice fraught with anxiety.

Chloe Reed couldn’t believe her ears. ’How could a person just disappear from a hospital?’

She rushed straight to the hospital. The room was empty.

She grabbed a caregiver’s arm. ”What happened? Where’s my grandmother?”

”We were with her the whole time. Then, Mrs. Linton arrived. She said she wanted to speak with her alone, so we stepped out. We didn’t go far, but then someone suddenly caused a commotion... By the time we got back to the room, she was gone.”

’Mrs. Linton. Autumn Linton!’

Chloe Reed’s mind went blank. She had thought the hospital was safe, that nothing could possibly happen there.

’Especially with three caregivers looking after her.’

’But she never imagined something would still go wrong!’

Struggling to control her emotions, she called Autumn Linton.

After three rings, the call connected.

”Chloe.”

Autumn Linton’s tone was perfectly normal, as if she were still the same gentle mother.

But Chloe Reed clutched her phone, asking through gritted teeth, ”Where did you take my grandmother?!”

Autumn Linton replied, ”Chloe, you’re overreacting. She’s my mother. I just wanted to have a proper talk with her.”

”She just had surgery last night!” Chloe Reed couldn’t hold it in anymore and roared, ”And you have the nerve to call her your mother! How could you take her away? What if something happens to her? Where are you? Where did you take her?!”

In contrast to her frantic state, Autumn Linton remained eerily calm. Her tone was still gentle. ”Chloe, I won’t beat around the bush. I know your grandmother transferred all her assets to you. Now, you get the paperwork ready and transfer everything to my name, and I’ll tell you where she is.”

”You bitch!”

Chloe Reed swore. ”How could you do this!”

Autumn Linton’s voice grew agitated as well. ”I only wanted the pair of sapphire earrings at first! You were the one who wouldn’t give them to me. You forced my hand, Chloe. If anything happens to your grandmother, it’ll be on you.”
