Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Walker Grant’s brow tightened. ”Mom, you can’t go.”

Judith Pierce’s expression soured. ”Walker, you can’t be so protective of her.”

Walker Grant’s expression was cold, but his tone was firm. ”She’s a daughter of the Reed family. What she says in her own family should be the final word. It’s our sister-in-law who is being completely unreasonable.”

Judith Pierce’s brow furrowed deeply. ”But if Chloe doesn’t take a stand on this, I’m afraid it won’t be resolved that easily.”

”What kind of stand do you want her to take?” Walker Grant fixed his gaze on her, his dark eyes tinged with a chill. ”Should she apologize to Sunny? Or should she just compromise and give our sister-in-law whatever she wants?”

Judith Pierce was silent.

Walker Grant’s tone grew even colder. ”She saved my life. I can handle this. Chloe has no obligation to do any of these things, much less indulge her.”

Silence fell outside the emergency room.

Judith Pierce thought it over and realized he was right. ’This whole thing blew up, but what does it really have to do with Chloe?’

’It was Sunny who kicked up a fuss about going abroad, insisting on taking Noah with her.’

’If she hadn’t caused all this drama, how could the accident have happened?’

Earlier, Judith Pierce had seen Walker nearly get hit by the car. In the heat of the moment, she’d gotten swept up and instinctively followed Sunny’s line of thinking, placing all the blame on Chloe’s shoulders.

But now that she had calmed down, she was starting to feel that something was off.

”Have they caught the driver of that car?” Judith Pierce asked, frowning.

”He’s been taken to the police station,” Walker Grant said grimly.

Judith Pierce added, ”Make sure they investigate it thoroughly. That road rarely has much traffic, and it’s a low-speed zone. That car showing up right then was too much of a coincidence.”

Her gaze fell to the child in Walker’s arms. Noah was asleep, teardrops still clinging to his lashes, looking utterly pitiful.

’With Julian gone, Noah only had his mother. They all doted on the boy, pitied him, and didn’t want him to be separated from her.’

’Too bad that mother was so devious.’

Judith Pierce had already made up her mind. As soon as Sunny recovered, she would be sent abroad. Noah had to stay.

’Noah was only three. In time, he wouldn’t even remember he had a mother.’

...

Madam Grant soon heard what had happened. She smashed a teacup on the floor.

”That little bitch, Chloe Reed! What a menace to this family!”

Nanny Lawrence, her attendant, rushed to pat her on the chest. ”Madam Grant, please don’t be angry. Chloe really went too far this time. Sunny may be an adopted daughter, but her surname is still Reed! It’s not a big deal for Mr. Reed to invest in her. How can Chloe be so petty?”

Madam Grant snorted. ”I think she did it on purpose. The Grant family can’t have a daughter-in-law like her. You can proceed with that business we discussed.”

Nanny Lawrence nodded. ”I’ve had someone looking into the people around Chloe. I’ve found a suitable candidate.”

Madam Grant nodded. ”Good. Go handle it. Make sure it’s a clean job.”

”Yes.”

”...”

Chloe Reed was completely unaware of what had happened with Sunny.

She had come in late that morning, so she deliberately worked overtime until eight-thirty to make up for it. Kyle Coleman’s sour expression had finally softened a little.

She got into her car, ready to head to the hospital, when she received an unexpected call.

”Owen?”

”It’s me.” Owen’s voice sounded dejected, and it was noisy in his background. ”Chloe, do you have a minute? I need to see you.”

Chloe glanced at the time. ”It’s getting late. Can we do tomorrow evening?”
