Chapter 1053: Chapter 1053: Wandering Spirits and Restless Ghosts

”Aunt, how are you so sure that those wandering spirits and wild ghosts have followed us?” Miaoqiu asked curiously. She just felt that the sky was a bit darker today, and the clouds were rather heavy. It didn’t necessarily mean there were any demons or ghosts, right?

Xv Baiping looked at her with a tense expression. Not to mention for a woman like her, even most men would be afraid of ghosts.

”Follow me,” said Xu Xianrong as she stood up from her chair and walked outside.

Previously, Lin Tian had noticed that Xu Xianrong had a tall figure. Wearing boots with three-centimeter soles, she reached a height of 185 cm, almost as tall as Lin Tian.

She wore a coat, with her hands in her pockets, walking like a model on the runway, extremely stylish.

Actually, her figure was not much different from Xu Miaoxiu’s, both possessing a voluptuous chest, a slender waist, and ample hips, a classic S-line golden figure that even a loose coat couldn’t hide.

Lin Tian only took one glance before averting his eyes; after all, she was an elder, and just one glance should be enough.

The three followed Xu Xianrong and finally stopped when they reached the courtyard.

”Can you feel the wind?” Xu Xianrong asked.

Lin Tian was first stunned, before he started to carefully sense it.

With his strength, he was far more sensitive to things around him than ordinary people, and soon he noticed something strange. Not to mention wind, even the air circulation in the courtyard was not smooth.

”It seems like there is no wind,” Xv Baiping said.

Xu Xianrong looked up at the sky and said, ”Now take a look at the clouds up there.”

Lin Tian raised his head and finally noticed the dark clouds covering the sky and extending to the horizon. Clearly, there wasn’t even a hint of wind, but these dark clouds were boiling like a pot of water.

Xu Xianrong said, ”I wasn’t sure before, but now I can confirm one hundred percent that Xu Dongxu has really attracted a lot of sinister things.”

A cold glint flashed in Xu Xianrong’s enchanting eyes, as she looked up at the sky as if she could really see those ghosts all over the sky: ”A few years ago, during my travels with our ancestor, we saw this kind of scene. It was also dark clouds covering the sky without a single breath of wind, the air was chillingly cold, and we felt extremely uncomfortable. Today, there was only a bit of sun in the morning, but now the sun can’t even shine through, and it’s almost about to set. At this time, it’s not surprising for strange things to happen.”

”These sinister things fear thunder and lightning the most, as they contain the purest destructive power. But look, the clouds cover the sky and churn violently. It’s one thing to have no wind, but you can’t hear even a bit of thunder. If it’s not some evil at work, what could it be?”

Xv Baiping, already frail, turned a bit pale listening to this. She clenched her fists and asked, ”Xianrong, should I get some garlic or black dog blood? I’ve heard these things ward off evil.”

Lin Tian smiled wryly, ”Aunt, that might handle one or two small ghosts. But look at the numbers up there...”

Unable to help herself, Xv Baiping looked up again, feeling a sense of helplessness from the bottom of her heart.

Miaoqiu sensed her mother’s unease and immediately held her hand, comforting her, ”Mom, don’t worry. They’re all in the sky and don’t dare to come down. If they do, I’ll strike them away with one palm until their souls dissipate!”

Xv Baiping patted her daughter’s hand. With her daughter to rely on, her anxious heart felt much better.

”These are just wandering spirits and wild ghosts. They don’t have much consciousness. Xu Dongxu doesn’t even know what kind of evil spells he’s chanting to summon a few, and the others just followed along like the wind. I also think he wanted to call in a few ferocious ghosts, but with his skills, he can’t suppress them. So, these wandering spirits are without any intent to harm,” Xu Xianrong said.

Hearing this, Xv Baiping let out a long sigh of relief. That counted as some good news.

Xu Xianrong wanted to say more, but just as she opened her mouth, Lin Tian quickly said, ”Miaoqiu, help Aunt back inside first. It’s enough for us to be here.”

But Xv Baiping shook her head, ”No need, I’ve seen these kind of storms before, nothing to avoid.”

Miaoqiu felt a bit of a headache; her mother’s stubbornness was well-known.

”Mom, with you out here, none of us can feel at ease. We’re all grown now; let us handle this. You go keep Dad company,” Miaoqiu said tactfully.

Xv Baiping’s determined gaze gradually softened. Since the children said so, what else could she say? Succumbing to their wishes might actually be helping them.

As she watched Miaoqiu assisting her sister-in-law inside, Xu Xianrong suddenly regarded Lin Tian with a hint of appreciation, ”You stopped me from continuing because you feared frightening my sister-in-law, didn’t you?”

Lin Tian nodded, ”She’s just an ordinary person; there’s no need for her to have unnecessary fears.”

”Hehe ~ The man Miaoqiu found does show some filial piety, I like that,” Xu Xianrong chuckled twice and then added, ”But you underestimate my sister-in-law too. She’s a Xu, not some ordinary person, has seen far more significant occasions than you, these wandering spirits can’t scare her.”

Lin Tian watched as the clouds churned in the sky, saying nothing.

No matter how many storms she’s weathered, she’s still a woman; why should she face all this?

Lin Tian gained a deeper understanding of this aunt; beneath her stunning face and figure was a soul full of confidence.

”You were about to say that once Xu Dongxu’s master arrives, these unawakened wandering spirits will become very powerful?” Lin Tian asked.

”Yes.” Xu Xianrong nodded, ”I’ve encountered this situation before. Wandering spirits aren’t like ferocious ghosts; they have no consciousness, like motes in the wind, hardly noticed even when present. But under someone’s control, wandering spirits can turn into dangerous ghosts. Without experts in Taoism or Buddhism, they’re quite difficult to deal with.”

Lin Tian was somewhat puzzled, ”Isn’t Xu Dongxu learning Taoism? Why does summoning ghosts feel like sorcery?”

The corners of Xu Xianrong’s mouth curled into a disdainful smile, ”Who told you the Taoism he learned was orthodox? Over the years, Xu Nanhai has tried all sorts of unorthodox methods to prolong his life, many of which were taught by Xu Dongxu. For the sake of changing his sister’s constitution, he learned half orthodox Taoism and half unorthodox methods; it’s hardly surprising.”

Pausing, Xu Xianrong continued, ”Of course, orthodox Taoism can also save Xu Nanhai, but only with destiny-altering techniques. Destiny-altering arts... they require deep cultivation and come with aftereffects no one can bear. Those with strong destinies might lose longevity, but weaker ones might not survive a month. Methods of trading life for life, no matter how deep their sibling bond, Xu Dongxu wouldn’t do it.”
