Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

In the end, a total of seven clans, including the Xuanyuan Family which had been the first to state its position, publicly announced their withdrawal from the competition for the Divine Son spot.

As for the remaining three clans.

The Qin Family never made their stance clear from start to finish.

From the Ye Family, not a single person even made an appearance.

And as for the Liu Family... their Patriarch was already dead, his body burned to ash. With no one left to speak for them, the question of withdrawal was moot.

With the other six great clans departing in dejection, their hearts full of frustration and resentment...

...the Meridian Gate Incident—an event that had captivated the entire nation—finally, slowly, came to a close.

No one could have expected it.

That this siege, a seemingly inescapable deathtrap orchestrated by the combined might of the Ten Great Clans, would end with them retreating in utter disgrace.

The woman and the mosquito had actually, truly won.

At that moment, countless gazes converged on the two figures below the Meridian Gate. They looked exhausted, yet their backs remained ramrod straight. A storm of emotions raged in the hearts of the onlookers, refusing to subside.

In that instant, their image was seared into the hearts of every citizen of Great Xia more deeply than ever before.

Gu Yuexi, with Chu Sheng in tow, slowly walked up to Long Zhanguo. Her gaze swept over the four great commanders before her, then over the tens of thousands of imposing soldiers behind them, and she gave a slight nod.

”Thank you, Minister Long.”

”And to all you soldiers as well.”

Long Zhanguo waved his hand, a gratified smile spreading across his face. ”Protecting the Great Xia Divine Mosquito is also a matter of upholding the authority of the Military Department. The important thing is that you’re both safe.”

”Now that this is over, we should be heading back. The border cannot be left without its commanders for even a day.”

With that, Long Zhanguo and the commanders of the four war zones gave another nod to Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng. Then, just as swiftly and silently as they had arrived, they led the tens of thousands of troops away, not lingering in Kyoto for a single minute longer.

...

With the military’s departure, the incredibly oppressive atmosphere around the Meridian Gate finally dissipated.

The students of Jing University could no longer contain their excitement and elation. They surged toward the base of the Meridian Gate like a tidal wave, erupting in earth-shattering cheers!

In their eyes, the victory of Gu Yuexi and the Divine Mosquito, and the concession of the Xuanyuan Family, was a victory for Jing University as well!

In the distance, the professors of Jing University watched as the students swarmed around the woman and the mosquito, their own hearts swelling with emotion.

’Alas, it seems the resurgence of Jing University might truly depend on these two little ones in the end.’

One of the professors nodded. His gaze shifted, and he suddenly spotted a vaguely familiar figure. He froze for a moment, and then, as if remembering something, his expression changed slightly.

’Did I just... see that kid, Lin Dong?’

’No, I must be seeing things.’

’Alas, if only that kid were here as well.’

Meanwhile, in a nearby corner.

A seemingly unremarkable young man in plain clothes took one last, deep look in Gu Yuexi’s direction, then turned and silently melted into the dispersing crowd.

”The chosen one for this generation has been decided.”

...

「The Meridian Gate Incident was over.」

But the tidal wave it created online and the shockwaves it sent through the hearts of countless people were far from over.

However, Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng couldn’t be bothered with any of that.

They politely declined all congratulations and interview requests, returning to their familiar dorm room at Jing University at the earliest opportunity.

Chu Sheng took the invitation left by Xuanyuan Hong from Gu Yuexi’s hand. He examined it carefully and discovered there was more to it than met the eye. It felt like a special kind of Magical Treasure used for guidance.

Gu Yuexi glanced at it and commented coolly, ”These Hidden Clans love to play such needlessly mysterious games. Without this invitation, it would be impossible for an outsider to find the true entrance to their clan’s territory.”

She paused, her gaze growing deep and thoughtful.

”Xuanyuan Hong’s appearance today reminded me of a few things. We might actually have to pay a visit to the Xuanyuan Family later on.”

Resting in her palm, Chu Sheng buzzed weakly a couple of times.

’If we have to go, we’ll go. I’m not scared. But for now, I just want to get some sleep.’

With that thought, he expertly dove into the soft, warm, and fragrant inner pocket of her clothes, found a comfortable position, and fell fast asleep.

Gu Yuexi glanced down with a look of fond exasperation.

’There’s a perfectly good bed, but he insists on squeezing in here.’

Though she grumbled inwardly, she didn’t stop him, allowing him to sleep peacefully in her embrace.

...

「Chu Sheng slept for three full days and nights.」

When he finally awoke, all his previous exhaustion and weakness had vanished. He felt completely refreshed and brimming with vitality.

He emerged from Gu Yuexi’s embrace and told her his plan: he was going to undergo his ninth complete evolution.

When she heard this, a rare flicker of surprise appeared in her beautiful eyes.

’He’s evolving again?’

’This will be the ninth time! Even Emperor-level Demon Beasts with the noblest Bloodlines might not evolve this many times.’

’What in the world kind of species is this blasted mosquito?’

She nodded, telling Chu Sheng to focus on his evolution without worry. She said she would stay on campus to stand guard for him while also preparing for the opening of Secret Realm Zero.

Once they had agreed, Chu Sheng went directly into the training room attached to their dorm.

In truth, he had met the conditions for evolution long ago, but a series of unforeseen events had delayed it until now.

Now that all the trouble was temporarily resolved, it was time to begin this all-important evolution.

[Next comprehensive evolution requirements: 3,000,000 Qi Blood Value (Eighth-Grade Early Stage), 3,000,000 Mental Power (Eighth-Grade Early Stage), and 500,000 Evolution Points. Additionally, at least one Realm must have reached the Origin Realm.]

Chu Sheng glanced at his status panel.

Qi Blood, Mental Power, Realm Origin, Evolution Points... All conditions were perfectly met.

’Then, let’s begin!’

[Ding! The ninth comprehensive evolution will consume 500,000 Evolution Points. Do you confirm?]

’Confirm!’

[This complete evolution is estimated to take twenty-one days.]

[Evolution, commencing!]

As Chu Sheng confirmed the choice in his mind, a blindingly brilliant golden light erupted from his body, flooding the entire training room with its radiance.

The golden light transformed into countless pliable threads of silk. They wrapped around the now-unconscious Chu Sheng, layer by layer, until they formed a massive Golden Cocoon that emanated a mysterious aura.

And just then.

Unseen by anyone, a faint, illusory figure materialized beside the Golden Cocoon... Based on its silhouette, it was unmistakably Xiaobai.

Xiaobai gazed at the Golden Cocoon for a long while, seemingly lost in thought. Then, it transformed into a streak of light and merged into the cocoon.

And with that, the last wisp of his Divine Sense in this world completely ceased to exist.
