Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Joint Exam Begins, Gu Yuexi’s First Round Match

Gu Yuexi: “…”

She stared at Qi Chongshan, her expression blank, her gaze frighteningly grim.

“Er…”

Qi Chongshan felt a chill run down his spine under her stare.

’What’s wrong? Why is she looking at me like she wants to kill someone? Was it wrong for me to show some concern?’

Completely bewildered, he could only offer an awkward smile and drop the subject.

He then cleared his throat and slowly rose to his feet.

In that instant, the amiable and fawning smile on Qi Chongshan’s face vanished.

The terrifying pressure of a King-level Powerhouse and the commanding aura of a provincial Governor burst forth without reservation, instantly enveloping the entire stadium!

The once-boisterous venue fell deathly silent in an instant!

Qi Chongshan’s gaze swept across the entire stadium. His voice wasn’t loud, yet it reached every single person’s ears clearly:

“I declare!”

“This year’s joint examination, the Sui Ming Province qualifying tournament, begins now!”

As his voice fell, countless names and details of the examinees began to scroll rapidly like a waterfall on the massive holographic screen in the center of the stadium, a screen large enough to cover an entire soccer field!

The rules of the qualifying tournament were simple. The system would match each examinee with an opponent of the closest strength based on the information submitted during registration.

Each win awarded Points, while a loss would deduct the corresponding amount.

In the end, the top three thousand examinees in the overall Point rankings would qualify to represent Sui Ming Province in the actual tri-province joint examination!

BUZZZZ—!!

At this moment, hundreds of arenas scattered throughout the stadium simultaneously lit up with pale blue energy shields.

The first round of matchmaking had begun!

Every examinee’s heart leaped into their throat!

In the Du Nan First Middle School formation, Wang Tao and the others stared intently at the large screen, a hint of anticipation in their eyes.

They all hoped to be matched with Gu Yuexi so they could teach her a harsh lesson!

A few seconds later, the scrolling on the screen began to slow, and the first list of successful matches appeared clearly before everyone.

“Look! The third big screen! That Gu Yuexi’s name is on it!”

“Holy crap! Someone got matched with her in the first round?”

A wave of gasps rippled through the crowd.

All eyes were glued to a line of text on the third screen.

[Arena Number: 088]

[Gu Yuexi (Du Nan First Middle School) vs. Ji Bochu (Linhai Third Middle School)]

And after their names, their respective strengths were also listed.

[Gu Yuexi: First-Grade Martial Artist Middle Stage.]

[Ji Bochu: First-Grade Martial Artist Middle Stage.]

When this result was revealed,

the crowd of protesting students immediately burst into derisive laughter.

“An examinee from Lianhai City? That poor backwater place… their examinees are as trash as I thought. He’s only a First-Grade Middle Stage?”

“This is killing me! A First-Grade Middle Stage versus a First-Grade Middle Stage? What kind of pecking match between noobs is this?”

“Nice. Someone with connections versus a clueless country bumpkin. I bet that Ji Bochu is gonna beat the crap out of her!”

…

On the main platform.

“…” Gu Yuexi looked at the matchup and felt insulted.

She turned to Qi Chongshan, her face expressionless. “What kind of matchmaking system is this? Weren’t opponents supposed to be of similar strength?”

“Er…”

Qi Chongshan’s old face flushed red with embarrassment. He quickly sent a Mental Power transmission: “That… an error! Purely an error!”

“Your real data is top secret, so they must have used your enrollment information for the matchmaking… It’s a small issue! A small issue!”

With a wave of his hand, he grabbed the microphone and announced to the entire stadium in a tone that brooked no argument:

“Arena 88! Due to a major system matchmaking error, the panel of judges has unanimously ruled that for this match, Gu Yuexi of Du Nan First Middle School wins by default!”

“…”

“…”

The entire stadium fell into a dead silence that lasted for more than ten seconds.

Then, the Du Nan First Middle School formation exploded like a lit powder keg!

“Holy fuck!!!!”

“What the hell? They can do that?!”

“She wins without even fighting? They’re not even pretending anymore, are they?”

“This is so fucking rigged! What’s the point of this exam?! We quit!”

“It’s rigged! Rigged!!”

Deafening roars of fury rose and fell, one after another!

Wang Tao was completely stunned. He stared blankly at the glaring word “WIN” on the big screen, his mind went blank.

’They can play it like this?’

’This… They’re not just going to give her a free pass all the way into the tri-province joint examination, are they? Does it have to be this blatant?!’

The commoner students were even more incensed, their faces flushed and necks bulging with rage. If the school’s teachers and security guards weren’t holding them back, they would have already stormed the leadership platform!

Zhang Chengye noticed the situation and said with a grim expression, “Governor Qi, the students from Du Nan First Middle School look like they’re about to explode…”

Qi Chongshan glanced over, a look of complete indifference on his face. “I see it. Don’t worry about them. The data was wrong from the start, so my actions are reasonable and compliant with the rules. Let them cause a scene. Once Gu gets on stage for real, they’ll shut up on their own.”

…

Meanwhile, in the exclusive viewing stands on the highest level of the stadium.

The eight prodigies of Du Nan First Middle School’s Hidden Dragon Class were sitting there out of boredom, looking down at the heated competition below.

They were all top prodigies who had already been granted admission to Top Notch universities. Logically, they had no need to participate in a provincial qualifying tournament like this.

But for this year’s tri-province joint examination, the Federation was offering extremely generous rewards for the top one hundred, which even they couldn’t refuse.

However, because their strength far exceeded that of ordinary examinees, to ensure the fairness of the competition, they would not be matched with any opponents for the first two days of the qualifying tournament.

So, for now, they could only sit here and watch the show.

And naturally, the farcical scenes unfolding below did not escape their notice.

“Haha! Isn’t this a bit over the top?”

Huo Mingxuan couldn’t help but chuckle as he watched the indignant, nearly rioting students below. “The Lord Governor’s move… it’s like he’s afraid the fire isn’t burning hot enough!”

Xiao Ran also had a wry smile on his face. He finally understood that this Lord Governor was a man who simply didn’t play by the rules.

The other students of the Hidden Dragon Class all turned in unison, casting strange looks at Qin Zheng, who sat in a corner with a gloomy, uncertain expression.

“Qin Zheng,” Chu Yiran, one of the strongest in the Hidden Dragon Class, suddenly asked coolly, “did you not tell them that Gu Yuexi’s strength isn’t actually First-Grade Middle Stage?”

Qin Zheng’s face immediately turned beet red with embarrassment.

“They… they didn’t ask at the time…”

“Everyone was worked up back then, they were too emotional. Who would’ve paid attention to that…?”

Everyone: “…”

’And you, as the leader, handled it like that?’

To be honest, Qin Zheng was panicking internally right now.

Two days ago, being treated as a spiritual leader by tens of thousands of students, with crowds answering his every call, the feeling had really gone to his head. He’d felt incredible, like the very embodiment of justice.

But after cooling down these past two days, the more he thought about it, the more he felt he’d blown things way out of proportion.

Now the Governor himself had stepped in. It was obvious he intended to protect that Gu Yuexi to the very end!

Qin Zheng looked uneasily at the cold, aloof figure on the main platform and couldn’t help but ask nervously, “I… I haven’t ended up harming Gu Yuexi, have I?”

“Even though she’s a Second-Grade Early Stage Beast Tamer, if she runs into one of those ruthless people from the advanced classes, she could still get seriously injured…”

“Injured is the least of it.”

Chu Yiran glanced at him and said calmly, “The ones who hate Gu Yuexi the most right now are the top students who are also at the Second-Grade Early Stage but couldn’t get into the Hidden Dragon Class.”

“In their eyes, Gu Yuexi is the one who stole their spot. If they really met her in the arena… they might not hold back. They might even cripple her!”

Qin Zheng: “…”

His face instantly turned pale.

’It’s over… What have I done?’

’I just wanted to fight for fairness, I never wanted to destroy someone!’
