Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Li Xue just watched her brother smile, she was quite curious, this brother had just come back, how did he and Wang Zhiqing hit it off so quickly?

Li Yungui and Xiao Li didn’t tell anyone that Wang Menglin had taken a liking to Li Manjiang, fearing it might harm the girl’s reputation.

After dinner, everyone helped clean up; today was Hongling and Cheng Lin’s turn to do the dishes.

”Hongling, let’s hurry up, I’m waiting for some dessert.”

”You ate so much just now, can you really eat more?”

”Of course I can, can’t you eat more? Then I’ll eat your share for you.”

”Not tonight, you can save my share for tomorrow morning.”

”How could that be? If I knew I still had a piece of dessert uneaten, I wouldn’t be able to sleep all night.”

Li Yungui listened to his youngest son’s words and was so angry he wanted to slap him. This useless one, all he thinks about all day is food.

”Changhe, go bring a watermelon up.”

The family sat around the courtyard eating watermelon. Li Manjiang recounted his trip to the county.

”I’m just waiting for the paper with the stamp and signature sent by the leader.”

”Is that it? Once you have this proof, can you two go and get the certificate?”

”Yes.”

”How long until it arrives?” Xiao Li asked eagerly.

”A registered express mail should take about half a month, our leader sent it this afternoon.”

”Husband, should we arrange their engagement first?

The peanuts will be all harvested in three days, let’s set their engagement, and in over ten days, when the proof arrives, they can get the certificate, and we will prepare for the wedding feast.”

Xiao Li insists on a big celebration, after all, Manjiang is the eldest son, and finally starting a family after all these years, of course, they would notify family relatives and friends.

Li Yungui understands his wife’s intention. ”Okay, I’ll find Old Yang tomorrow, figure out a way to get some meat, and we’ll arrange their engagement in four days. It’s a good day, August 2nd.”

”Tomorrow I’ll go to find Wang Zhiqing and his siblings, to see if they have any other thoughts about the engagement date.”

Li Xue eating watermelon at the side said, ”Brother, congratulations, Wang Zhiqing is the most beautiful girl besides Jing Chu.”

Li Manjiang nodded smilingly, she really is quite beautiful, not that he hadn’t seen pretty ones before, but they often had a kind of arrogance he didn’t like, which Wang Menglin didn’t have. She seemed unapproachable, but after spending this afternoon, he understood she just didn’t like expressing herself.

”Brother, does that mean we’re going to have a sister-in-law soon?”

”It should be like that.”

Li Xue felt a bit worried, listening to their uncle and aunt discussing preparing the room Brother Chaoyang lives in for her brother as a new room.

Would the new sister-in-law dislike them, the three siblings? After all, they were just nieces and nephews.

”Brother, the sister-in-law won’t dislike the three of us, will she?”

Li Manjiang was taken aback, ”I don’t know either, probably not, Wang Menglin is a generous person.” He truly didn’t know. Having just met, he wasn’t sure.

Xiao Li and Li Yungui also felt concerned after hearing their niece’s words.

Not knowing how to comfort their niece. Xiao Li thought to talk to Wang Menglin about it when confirming the engagement time tomorrow.

At the Tao family, the two siblings were also waiting for Wang Menglin to eat.

They were having cold noodles, not cooked yet, just cut and set aside waiting for Wang Menglin to return.

The three siblings sat in the courtyard eating. ”Cousin, the marriage application should come through within a month, it’s probably because Grandpa called over there, and today they directly sent a blank application with a signature and stamp.”

”Cousin, you really got your wish.” Tao Chunhe said with a smile.

”Yes, I didn’t expect Grandpa to agree so readily.”

”Since you agree, of course, Grandpa would as well.” Tao Yanzhen said with a smile, though feeling quite bitter inside. As her cousin said, she might not be able to decide her future husband’s selection.

It might be someone unknown, unfamiliar.

The thought made Tao Yanzhen disheartened. Seeing her brother and cousin chatting excitedly, she also felt sympathetic towards her brother. He wasn’t much better off than her. His marriage would be more serious, not something he could decide based on who he likes.

After finishing their wash-up, the three siblings went to their separate rooms to rest. Having been to the county twice today, Wang Menglin was tired and fell asleep quickly.

That night, Li Manjiang lay on the brick bed, the weather was sultry, he couldn’t sleep, his mind filled with thoughts of Wang Menglin.

She was indeed too beautiful, tall, with a beautiful face, how could he not like that?

Yet it felt unreal, weird, though he couldn’t figure out what was off. Just a kind of indescribable oddness.

Thinking that in four days he could be engaged, and within a month have a wife, made him excited.

He always trained intensely, it wasn’t that he didn’t think about women, but the last incident disgusted him greatly. So, he held some aversion towards women. But thinking of Wang Menglin, he didn’t feel that way.

After breakfast the next day, Xiao Li didn’t manage the household, leaving the dough work to Li Xue, she wanted to discuss the engagement matters with the Tao family before going off to work.

She had been so excited she couldn’t sleep last night, her eldest son’s marriage had become a concern in her heart. Now it was settled, and something she hadn’t expected - a Zhiqing.

In her heart, she thought Zhiqings wouldn’t want to marry into the countryside, even though they’re living there now, someday they’d return, right?

What would happen then, if they insisted on going back, what about the husband, the children?

Lucky it was Manjiang, if it were Chaoyang, she wouldn’t agree. After all, Manjiang had a chance to take his wife and children out, but if the other sons stayed in the village, the days would be rancorous, disrupting even the best of days then.

Xiao Li felt like she was walking on air, with a face full of smiles.

The two families weren’t far, so it didn’t take long to arrive.

The door was opened by Tao Chunhe. ”Auntie, so early? Have you eaten? Want to join us?”

”Tao Zhiqing, I’ve already eaten, you guys are having breakfast? I came to discuss something with you.”

Tao Chunhe invited Xiao Li into the house. Both girls smiled warmly to welcome her.

”You guys eat, I’ll talk while you listen.” Xiao Li didn’t want to delay their meal.

”Auntie, have some water.” Wang Menglin poured a glass of cool boiled water, placed it on the table beside Xiao Li.

Now, Xiao Li found everything about Wang Menglin great. Pretty and sensible.

”Meng Lin, you go eat, or it’ll get late.”

The three siblings quickened their eating pace, breakfast was steamed buns, they brought out the noon meal too, along with millet porridge, also brought out for noon.
