Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Li Yungui entered the room and smiled at Jin Erlin.

The Tao Family Brothers and Sisters were about to leave but were stopped by Li Yungui.

”You three listen as well; you are young people and more open-minded than us.”

Since he put it like that, the brothers and sisters smiled and sat down.

Li Manjiang glanced at Wang Menglin out of the corner of his eye; this girl was straightforward without a hint of shyness.

This isn’t right. When a girl proposes something like this, she would usually feel a bit embarrassed, wouldn’t she?

But this girl had nothing of the sort; there wasn’t any sign of a smile or any shyness that a young girl should exhibit.

If it weren’t for them saying that the girl agreed on her own, Li Manjiang would have thought she was unwilling.

”Old Jin, we discussed it at home this noon and think that it’s fate that Wang Zhiqing has eyes for Manjiang.

Wang Zhiqing is sensible and capable. Of course, our family has no objections.

But the matter of Manjiang should be left to the two kids to discuss. We have no intention of forcing a marriage, so Manjiang came today. Tao Zhiqing, let them chat. If they still find each other suitable, then it’s a win-win situation.”

Tao Chunhe nodded with a smile. ”Village Chief Li, that’s the best arrangement. After all, they are the ones who will be living together. Only they can decide if they are suitable.”

”Yes, Tao Zhiqing is right; that’s the truth.”

Li Manjiang stood up and looked at Wang Menglin. ”Wang Zhiqing, shall we talk alone?”

Wang Menglin also stood up and was the first to leave the room, with Li Manjiang following behind her.

Now only the four of them were left in the room. Tao YanZhen smiled at Li Yungui, ”Village Chief Li, you probably know my cousin’s situation. My grandma used to always say my cousin had a hard life, but I think she was talking about the first half. Once she marries into your family, her happy days will begin.”

Li Yungui was flattered by the praise. ”Tao Zhiqing, don’t worry. We don’t have daughters, and if it really works out, though we won’t exactly treat Wang Zhiqing like one of our daughters, we will definitely treat her well.

I also know Wang Zhiqing doesn’t have the best family ties, so our family will make it up to her as much as possible.”

Hearing this, the Tao Family Brothers and Sisters and Jin Erlin were very pleased. They definitely trusted Li Yungui’s character.

Li Manjiang followed Wang Menglin into a room clearly shared by the sisters.

”Please have a seat, Mr. Li.”

Li Manjiang sat on the stool in front of the writing desk. He was a bit nervous, so his sitting posture was very upright.

”Mr. Li, let me first tell you about my situation.

I am an orphan, and the Tao family is my maternal family.

Before I was ten, I spent half my time living with the Tao family. After turning ten, I lived directly with them.

My father married my mother for his own future, though he didn’t love her. He secretly kept another family outside.

My blood-related sister is only a few months younger than me. He also has a son.

I suspect my mom realized the man she thought loved her didn’t at all, and that’s perhaps why she died of depression.”

Li Manjiang saw Wang Menglin pause and organized his thoughts. ”My family is fairly ordinary. We have four sons, and I am the eldest. Our family has always farmed the land, and we get along well.

I’ve been a soldier for six years and am now a company commander. I once had a relationship with someone from my unit.

She was a nurse, and we were already discussing marriage, but I returned home once, and by the time I went back, she had married someone else, my superior officer.”

This news was new to Wang Menglin, and she looked at Li Manjiang with curiosity. ”Do you still have feelings for her?”

Li Manjiang shook his head. ”She is just a comrade now.”

Wang Menglin was satisfied with his response. ”If we end up together and that woman comes back to you, what will you do? If there’s a chance of rekindling old feelings, then we shouldn’t waste each other’s time now.”

Li Manjiang was a bit taken aback by Wang Menglin’s straightforwardness.

”Firstly, she is just a comrade now, and she is also someone’s wife. Furthermore, I am a soldier with my own principles; I know what is not permissible.”

Wang Menglin nodded, ”Alright, I trust you now. But if you do end up like that in the future, I won’t be afraid. If we can live together, we should do so well, but if not, we can part ways. In this world, no one can’t live without another.”

Her blunt words made Li Manjiang feel slightly uncomfortable, talking about separation before even getting together.

But he understood given her family background, she was very sensitive regarding these matters.

”I swear on my honor.”

Wang Menglin nodded again, thus settling the matter.

”Wang Zhiqing, now that you know my situation, do you have any questions?”

Wang Menglin shook her head. ”And you? Anything else you’d like to know?”

”No, since the past is behind us. What we should focus on are the days ahead.

Rest assured, I will be loyal to the family and to my wife.

Since you have no objections, Wang Zhiqing, I’ll go call my unit. As you know, marrying requires a political review.”

”How much longer will you be on leave here?”

”I can stay at home for forty days.”

”Okay, let’s head to the county this afternoon; I also need to call my grandfather.”

Li Manjiang felt something was off again. This girl talked about these things without any hint of embarrassment. As a man, he felt a little defeated.

Wang Menglin was unaware of Li Manjiang’s internal conflict. ”Let’s depart this afternoon then.”

”Alright.” They had no objection here.

They went to the main hall, and four pairs of eyes were on their expressions.

”Dad, I’m heading to the county to call the leader.”

”Cousin, I’ll go back with Uncle Jin to call my grandfather.”

Jin Erlin stood up. ”Then let’s head out now.”

Li Yungui and his son hurried back home. Going to the county meant directly bicycling there.

Before they reached home, the work bell rang.

Qu Xiaoli was anxiously waiting for them at home. Upon hearing the work bell, the children got up too.

”Second Aunt, we’re heading out first.”

Qu Xiaoli nodded. She wanted to wait for the results, but she had to go out to pick peanuts in the afternoon, so it wouldn’t be appropriate to be late.

By this time, the father and son had returned. Li Yungui saw his wife looking at him eagerly and nodded.

Now, Qu Xiaoli felt at ease, and a smile appeared on her face.

”Mom, I’m going to the county with Wang Zhiqing.”

”Yes, take some money, and if you see something the girl likes, buy it for her.”

Li Manjiang thought he might not even have time to shop. But he obediently took plenty of money and coupons, just in case, to avoid any awkward situations later on.
