Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 834: Chapter 834: A Family Together

The two brothers arrived at the supply and marketing cooperative. Because they didn’t have sugar coupons, they didn’t buy any sugar but instead bought some pens and notebooks. Red Army also bought two packs of cigarettes for Li Yunqiao.

”Hongling, since we promised Heizi and the others, let’s go home and ask our sister if she has any sugar coupons.”

Red Army saw that his brother didn’t have much energy, so he coaxed him.

When they returned, Li Xue was wiping the floor.

”Sister, do you have any sugar coupons? We’re going back tomorrow, and we want to bring some candy back for our little friends.”

”I don’t have any. Wait a minute, let me check if there are any at home?”

She opened the drawer; inside there were several sugar coupons. She handed them one and took out two yuan from her pocket to give to them.

”Sister, we have money. These are the things I bought; I’ll leave them at home for now.”

The two brothers returned to the supply and marketing cooperative and bought a pound of candy. Only then did they return home.

Li Xue had already cleaned up the house and went to the kitchen to start preparing the meal.

Red Army came back just in time to see Li Xue chopping cabbage. So he went to wash his hands, took the knife from her, and began chopping. Hongling was peeling onions on the side.

”Sister, we just went to see Mom. She said she’s going to register the marriage tomorrow.”

Li Xue was taken aback for a moment. ”Hmm. Since she divorced Dad, she can marry again.”

”But then she won’t be our mom anymore.”

Li Xue patted her younger brother’s shoulder, ”She’ll always be our mom.”

”Sister, she said it’s too hard to live alone.”

Li Xue fell silent. She was still young and didn’t know much, but she also felt uncomfortable about Mom remarrying.

The three siblings were making dinner together in the kitchen and feeling quite down because of this matter.

Li Yunqiao rushed home after work. His son and daughter-in-law were going to have dinner at home tonight, so he hurried back to cook.

But when he saw the slightly open front door, he paused, and a smile appeared on his face. At this time, his eldest son hadn’t even gotten off work yet. It meant his daughter and youngest son were home.

He pushed the door open and saw sheets hanging on the clothesline in the yard and smelled the fragrance of food. Carrying his briefcase, he went straight to the kitchen?

It was Hongling who first noticed Li Yunqiao. ”Dad.”

”Haha, my youngest son got tanned.”

Red Army and Li Xue also stood up and gathered around their father.

”Dad.”

”Great, Red Army has grown taller again. Within a year, you’ll surpass me.

My daughter is also tanned. How was the autumn harvest?”

”Dad, it wasn’t hard for us. The village now has rotary cultivators and seeders, so we just helped with picking corn.”

”Good, good. I’ll go to the restaurant and see what good food there is.”

Li Yunqiao was truly happy. The house had been very quiet every day, and he felt quite lonely.

”Come on, Red Army, Hongling, come with me to the restaurant and pick whatever you want to eat, and we’ll bring it back.”

”Dad, my sister made vegetable patties. No need to buy food, we can have good food at Uncle’s house as well.”

”That’s different. Come on, let’s see if there’s any pig’s trotters your sister loves.”

Li Yunqiao put the briefcase back and smiled at the two packs of red plum cigarettes on the coffee table.

”Dad, my second brother bought those for you; I don’t have that much money.”

”Good, you’re all good sons of Dad.”

The three of them went to the kitchen to get some food containers. They didn’t ride bicycles but walked directly to the restaurant.

The current supplies were okay, although there were no pig’s trotters, there were pig livers and braised pork.

Li Yunqiao bought two portions of braised pork and a piece of pig liver.

”Do you want to eat rice?”

Both of them shook their heads. ”Dad, sister made vegetable patties.”

”Okay, then we won’t buy rice.

How about we buy a portion of tofu?”

Both kids shook their heads again, emphasizing that there were vegetable patties at home. They used to be little, and this time they went back to their hometown, they earned some money through their labor.

Picking corn was really tiring and itchy, but they only got a little money, and even Red Army got only a little over twenty yuan from driving a tractor every day.

So the two brothers knew that money was hard to come by. They were even more reluctant to let Li Yunqiao buy things.

”It’s okay. Dad is happy when you come back, and of course, he wants to give you the best food to enjoy.”

”Dad, we also had meat a few times at Uncle’s house.”

Li Yunqiao felt proud and a little sad seeing his sons like this.

The three of them returned home to find the eldest son and daughter-in-law already there. The couple was in the kitchen with Li Xue.

Six family members sat down to eat. With the braised pork, the vegetable patties tasted extra delicious.

”Xue’er, are you going back to our hometown?” Hong Lin asked his sister.

”Yes, we have to go back. My sister-in-law is due in two months, and I want to take this opportunity to study with Teacher Jiang. She said I could learn second-year middle school knowledge with her nieces and nephews. Although they’ve graduated from middle school, it’s a good review. I think I can still learn a lot.”

”Dad, this time we came back with Teacher Jiang’s car to the county.” Hongling finally looked a bit happy now.

”Xue’er, you don’t need to help with my postpartum period. My mom will be here, don’t worry. Besides, your big brother is here too. Just focus on studying, this is a rare opportunity.”

”Sister-in-law, are you going to your mother’s house for the postpartum period?”

”My mom will come over, don’t worry. I really don’t need you to help.” She felt embarrassed to have her sister-in-law help her during the postpartum period.

”Right, Xue’er. Just focus on your studies, I’m here too.”

”But after the baby is born, my sister-in-law will have to go back to work, and there will be no one to watch the baby. I should come back.”

”Xue’er, just wait until I start work again to come back. You really need to watch over your niece and nephew.”

Li Yunqiao put down his chopsticks. ”Xue, just wait until the new year, and I’ll come to pick up all three of you.”

That settled it, and the family happily finished dinner.

Cleaning up the kitchen was a task for the three brothers. Li Xue helped them make the beds and mattress covers. She had already tidied up her room and her two brothers’ room in the afternoon.

”Xue’er, let your big brother handle it, you’ve been busy all afternoon, take a break.”

”Sister-in-law, I’m not tired.

Dad, Red Army and Hongling went to see Mom this afternoon. Mom told them she’s going to register with someone else tomorrow, so they both were in a bad mood this afternoon.”

”I know, I’ll talk to them later.

Xue, I divorced your mom so she could live her own life.”

Li Xue hung her head. ”I know. Dad, is it because of me that you divorced Mom?”

”Silly girl, that’s part of it, but over the years, I’ve been too disappointed in her. Don’t overthink.” Li Yunqiao comforted his daughter. Since she was born, she has always been easy-going. Back then, he was so busy with work he barely paid attention to her.
