Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 802: Chapter 802: Li Yunqiang

Li Yunqiang brought out a bowl of shredded salted vegetables, another bowl of thick sauce, and a few scallions. The leftover cornbread from lunch was also brought out, and the family of five ate dinner in silence.

After Liu Cuilan finished eating, she stood up and left. It had been like this for so many years, and she didn’t think there was anything wrong; she was used to it.

When the four men finished eating, the two children helped clear the table and wash the dishes. He went to feed the pigs.

When the eldest son was at home, it was his job, but now there’s no way around it, so during the day the three kids work, and Li Yunqiang handles it himself in the morning and evening.

After tidying up the house, he finally went inside.

Day in and day out, he was very tired from being outside.

Seeing his wife already in bed, she didn’t bother to fix his bed.

He couldn’t help but feel angry inside, but who was it that pursued her so stubbornly back then?

Now he regretted it and wished he had a virtuous wife at home to have a hot meal after a tiring day.

After getting into bed alone, he laid down without exchanging a word throughout the process.

Liu Cuilan still felt wronged inside. No matter what happened before, he would always say a few words to her. Why was he ignoring her today?

Was it because he was angry that she agreed to lend the corn sheller to her maternal village? Didn’t it not get lent in the end? Actually, why didn’t she think about it, if she hadn’t found the corn sheller, it would’ve been taken away by now.

Her maternal family rarely came to her unless necessary, like before the autumn harvest when they came once, wanting to use the tractor because they knew her eldest son drove a tractor. That time, he got angry with her too.

It’s not like she didn’t have a temper; they didn’t say they wouldn’t pay, so why did it sound like they came to take advantage of Li Yunqiang?

If they couldn’t use it, they couldn’t use it. This time, she didn’t even know how her maternal family found out about the corn sheller and came to ask her again.

Isn’t that a small matter? Their village had already used it and didn’t lend it to other villages. Why was Li Yunqiang yelling at her again?

After so many years, had he grown tired of her?

The more Liu Cuilan thought about it, the worse she felt. When she was a girl, she had no free time and worked all day. Back then, Li Yunqiang took a liking to her, and she said she didn’t want to work in the future, to which he agreed. After marrying him, she only did fieldwork and nothing at home.

This had been the way for many years. Why was he angry with her now that the kids were grown?

Actually, she was also uneasy inside. Back then, with no in-laws and no one managing her, it was Li Yunqiang who took care of her during her first postpartum, and her second sister-in-law also came to help. Chaoyang was only a few months older than Xiang Dong. The second, third, and fourth children were the same, and she was the only one in the village who celebrated a full month for her babies.

The village women envied her; she felt happy and thought marrying Li Yunqiang was the right choice.

Years of being pampered and cared for by him became a habit. Why was he starting to ignore her now?

Li Yunqiang was really exhausted, both physically and mentally.

So he quickly fell asleep after lying down, without noticing his wife’s unease.

Liu Cuilan heard his snoring beside her and shed tears of grievance. Didn’t he want to talk to her anymore? No matter how tired he was before, he’d hold her and say a few words after coming home.

The next day, Li Yunqiang got up, not noticing the red, swollen eyes of his weeping wife, and went to make breakfast.

He was making cornbread for the kids in the morning, so if he came home late for lunch, they wouldn’t starve.

The three kids got up, swept the yard, and gave water to the pigs.

Li Yunqiang grabbed the time to feed the pigs as well before starting to cook.

”Dad, I want to eat potatoes.”

”Alright. I’ll fry potatoes for you.”

After the potatoes were fried, Li Yunqiang also made cabbage soup.

The third child went into the room to call their mom for a meal but saw her still lying in bed.

”Mom, time for breakfast.”

”I’m not eating, you go eat.”

The child didn’t notice and went out to eat.

There was a lot for Li Yunqiang to do today; the grain in the warehouse needed sorting as they’d start distributing it in a few days.

So he didn’t notice, and after breakfast, he instructed the three kids and hurried off to the warehouse, always being the last to arrive.

Liu Cuilan listened to the sounds outside, realizing she was the only one left at home before getting up.

The cornbread and dishes were on the stove. After eating, she wandered around and didn’t feel like going to work, so she tidied up a bit and decided to go to her maternal family to say the corn sheller couldn’t be lent.

Actually, she really cared about this home. Over the years, she hadn’t given much to her maternal family, so today she’d take just two cabbages from the yard.

When she arrived at her maternal home, no one was there as they were all harvesting.

She looked around and found her eldest brother.

”Cuilan, you’re back?”

”Big Brother, tell the village chief, I couldn’t find the corn sheller, so I can’t lend it to you all.”

”What’s going on?”

”Yunqiang is mad at me. I don’t know why, but I really couldn’t find the corn sheller.”

”Did you lend it to someone else?”

”No, I haven’t heard anything. Probably not. I think I’ve heard that my elder brother-in-law is using it, but I don’t know anything else.”

”Alright, I understand. You should go home and rest.”

Liu Cuilan shook her head; she didn’t do anything at her own home, so how could she not cook when staying at her maternal home?

After all these years of not doing it, she really didn’t want to, so she stayed with her parents for a while and planned to go home.

That’s when the village chief came over. ”Cuilan.”

”Village chief. I agreed to lend the corn sheller, but my husband disagreed. There’s really no way.”

”That’s alright. It’s my fault. I should have talked directly to Yunqiang. Are you going back now?”

”Yes, there’s still work at home.”

”I’ll go with you. You see, our village’s corn stalks aren’t plowed yet, and only two hundred acres of wheat are planted. I heard your village turned in all the grain, while not a single kernel of corn has been threshed in ours.

I’m just too anxious. If we could use the corn sheller, there’d be more time. I’m thinking of planting more wheat so people can have some fine grains, right?”

”Village chief, I can’t say anything. Yunqiang is mad at me. You still have to talk to my second elder brother-in-law about this.”

”Alright, I’ll go with you.”

The two arrived at the village, and Liu Cuilan, along with the cousin from her village, went to find the second elder brother-in-law.

Today, Li Yungui wasn’t at the warehouse. He went to discuss going up the mountain with Wei Kaiyun.

Li Yunqiang saw his wife bringing her maternal village’s chief and quickly put down his work.

”Big brother, you’re here. I was thinking of finding some time to visit you after finishing up here.”

”No problem, Yunqiang. You probably know why I’m here. Isn’t there any chance to squeeze in the tractor for use?”
