Chapter 1040: Chapter 1040 Childhood Friends

Ying Dong’s expression was slightly excited, “Yun, it’s really you. I never expected to see you here.”

Even more unexpected was that he was the very Young Master Meng whom Ying Xi had mentioned.

Meng Yunzheng smiled, “Yes, it’s me. Long time no see, it’s been ten years, hasn’t it?”

Indeed, it’s been ten years, and everything has changed.

Now Ying Dong has become a servant of the Lu family, thinking about it, he must have gone through many things and endured a lot over these ten years.

Shu Yu was a little stunned, looking left and right, “Do you two… know each other?”

Meng Yunzheng nodded, “Yes, we are childhood friends.”

Childhood friends?

Shu Yu knew that Ying Dong and Ying Xi were skilled in martial arts because they had lived in an escort agency since childhood. Later, when the escort agency had an incident, their parents died in prison, and the siblings were sold.

Could it be that the escort agency that had the incident was the Meng family’s agency back then?

Then, were his parents harmed by Gong Qiu? If so, things would be troublesome.

But looking at Ying Dong’s expression at this moment, it didn’t seem like it. Just as Shu Yu was about to ask for clarity, Ying Xi hurriedly ran over, “Miss, many guests have arrived at the front courtyard. The old lady asked you to go and meet some elders.”

After saying that, he glared at Ying Dong.

Ying Dong was a bit annoyed, having forgotten his original intention.

“I’m sorry, Second Miss, it’s my delay.” It wouldn’t be good if the elders misunderstood and thought the Second Miss was putting on airs because of him.

Meng Yunzheng laughed, “Yu, you should go ahead. I’ll talk to Lin Dong and join you soon.”

Shu Yu was quite curious, but as the main character of today’s event, it wasn’t appropriate for her to stay in the backyard without seeing anyone. So she nodded and took Ying Xi to the front courtyard first.

Ying Dong lagged a step, exchanged a glance with Meng Yunzheng, and both laughed simultaneously.

The ten-year gap created a distance, yet just this shared smile cleared much of it away instantly.

“Why the name change? When the Lu family mentioned Ying Dong and Ying Xi, I never connected it to you two siblings.” Meng Yunzheng initiated the conversation.

As they walked towards the front courtyard, they talked.

Ying Dong replied, “After your family had the incident, and you left with your biological father, the escort agency was leaderless, and everyone scattered. My father took our family to another agency in the prefecture to start anew, but within two years, he encountered bandits on the road. He kept the goods safe but was severely injured.”

Meng Yunzheng’s steps halted, “Uncle Lin, he…”

Talking about his biological father made Ying Dong’s mood somber, “He held on to see us one last time, entrusted us to the Head Escort, and then passed away. Later, my mother remarried, taking us siblings with her, and we changed our surname.”

“Unfortunately, good times didn’t last. Four years ago, the agency was plotted against, secretly transporting weapons and caught by the officials. The Ying family estate was confiscated, and our whole family was imprisoned.”

Fortunately, not many weapons were transported, but it was enough for a sentence.

His parents passed away, and the siblings were sold.

Meng Yunzheng hadn’t expected such twists in between; both Uncle Lin and Aunt Lin were gone.

“And you? After you went to the capital, how was it? How did your biological father treat you?” Ying Dong took a deep breath, not wanting to dwell too much on past hardships.

Instead, he was curious why Meng Yunzheng would appear here, given that he’d been recognized by his biological father and was now surnamed Meng.

Wasn’t it said that Uncle Meng had forced Aunt Meng into marriage, which led to Meng Yunzheng being unable to reunite with his biological father?
