Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]

Chapter 171: Chapter 171 - Frustration, Relief, and Guilt

Yunfeng rubbed his aching chin, muttering under his breath, ”That hurts...”

”Yeah, it better fucking hurt!”

Muchen stormed ahead, fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were white. His furious glare alone was enough to make Yunfeng feel like he’d rather face another horde of zombies than his pissed-off, pregnant lover.

”You fucking go around throwing bombs at zombies. And you think I’m okay with that?!” Muchen snapped, whirling around.

Yunfeng opened his mouth, but Muchen cut him off, voice trembling.

”I saw what happened! I saw you both get swarmed! Do you even understand what that felt like?! What do you think I was feeling, Yunfeng? Huh?! What if you didn’t make it back? What the fuck would I do then?”

His breath hitched, and Yunfeng saw something that made his stomach tighten—Muchen’s hands were shaking.

Before Yunfeng could say anything, his shoulder was suddenly slammed—hard.

”You ass!”

Hana’s furious voice rang out, and Yunfeng staggered slightly before glaring at his little sister.

”Okay, I already got punched for that,” he grumbled, rubbing his shoulder.

Hana didn’t care. She stood there, seething.

”You idiot,” she snapped, ”You think you’re some kind of superhero, don’t you?! Stop making us watch you almost die every damn time!”

Yunfeng sighed, lifting his hands in surrender. He got it.

They were angry because they cared.

But still, he had no regrets about what he did.

Hana grumbled under her breath and gazed at shao behind him. ”thank you for bringing my brother safe home,”

Shao simply nodded and lowered the little girl from his shoulders. ”can you help tend to her?”

”oh you poor baby,” hana instantly took to her. She gently checked her body for wounds. ”Were you all alone out there, you poor little thing?”

On her wrist there was a healed wound that looked like a bite mark.

Hana froze up gazing at shao. This instantly got his attention. He lowered himself to her height and peered at her face. The girls pupils were normal her breathing was normal and so was her pulse. ”did someone bite you?”

The child nodded with fear in her eyes. ”My mom... she bit me, so I ran and hid in there,”

Hana frowned peering at the wound. ”it looks healed like yunfengs. Do you think she also mutated.”

”yunfeng can take a sniff at her,”

”yunfeng,” Hana dragged him back. ”come on, use your dog nose and sniff her out,”

Yunfeng immediately went to do so. His nose picked up a faint trace scent of gun powder lingering on her. ”I smell gunpowder, I’m not sure if it’s her pheromone or if it’s from the guns we took,”

”I didn’t touch any guns. And I was the only one carrying her.” Shao said resolutely.

”then I guess it’s her pheromone,” shrugging yunfeng dashed to keep up with his lover. ”Muchenn~”

”don’t touch me,” Muchen slapped his hand away.

Hana sighed softly. ”cant believe great muchen fell for that idiot,”

”I can’t believe either.” Saying so shao walked towards the others.

They settled down in the dim warehouse, the only sound being the occasional shuffling of supplies and the quiet hum of wind outside.

”where’s jai?” yunfeng looked around.

Hana pointed to the corner.

Jai sat in a corner, knees pulled up, his face buried in his arms.

Yunfeng approached cautiously, kneeling beside him.

”Your grandpa wasn’t there,” he said softly.

Jai let out a long, shaky sigh—one that almost sounded like a mix of relief and exhaustion.

Then—

A loud sob broke from his throat.

”I don’t know, Yunfeng...” Jai’s voice cracked, and when he finally lifted his head, his eyes were red and swollen.

”I... I don’t want any more people coming to rescue us,” he whispered. His whole body trembled.

”I don’t want them to sacrifice their lives for us...”

Yunfeng felt a painful tightness in his chest.

Because he understood.

How many people had already died trying to save them?

How many more would come, thinking they could help—only to end up as another burning wreckage, another name on the ever-growing list of losses?

Yunfeng lowered his gaze.

”Yeah,” he murmured. ”I know...”

But what choice did they have?

’no there must be another way... a way to avoid any more deaths. A way to get home...’

Yunfeng’s grip on the walkie-talkie tightened. His heart pounded as he stared at the device.

”I’ll have to try something else.”

Static crackled through the speaker as he adjusted the frequency, turning the knob carefully. The connection was wonky, the voices broken, but then—

”It works!!!”

Excitement surged through him. He frantically walked around the warehouse, holding the device up, trying to find the strongest signal.

In a far corner, near a stack of supplies, he finally found it.

”Hello?”

A voice—distorted, fragmented, but there.

”Team Alpha, do you copy?”

Yunfeng’s breath caught. He clutched the device tighter.

”Hello! Hi! This is Yunfeng—”

”Um... hi. Where’s Team Alpha?”

Yunfeng swallowed hard. His fingers tightened around the walkie-talkie as he took a deep breath.

”They’re dead.”

Silence.

The longest, heaviest silence.

Then, a broken, hesitant voice.

”W-what happened?”

Yunfeng exhaled sharply. There was no easy way to say this.

He explained it all—the EMP attack, the helicopter crash, the swarming zombies. Every detail.

And then—

A familiar voice came online.

”Yunfeng.”

Yunfeng froze.

He would recognize that voice anywhere.

Jai’s father.

His chest tightened.

”Yunfeng, I need you to listen to this carefully.”

His voice was firm but strained.

”Stay in. Do not go out. I’ll... I’ll come for you.”

”No!” Yunfeng shouted. His voice cracked from the sheer force of it.

He didn’t care who was listening.

”Uncle, you can’t come! You’ll die!”

The static hummed between them, but Yunfeng pushed forward, his breath coming fast.

”You have to let us come to you! We’ll figure something out, but if you come here, it’s suicide!”

He heard heavy breathing on the other end.

”Do you know what you are talking about!! Yunfeng your mom is here waiting for you worried about you so don’t you dare do something stupid!!”

”but you will die!” yunfeng frustratingly raked a hand through his hair.

Jai ran over, his breath ragged, his hands trembling as he snatched the walkie-talkie from Yunfeng’s grip.

”Don’t come! Don’t you dare come here, Dad!”

His voice broke, raw with emotion, heavy with something deeper than fear—helplessness.

”Jai...” Shin Shinju’s voice came through, low and strained.

Jai’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the device tighter.

”It’s hell here! You don’t understand! You—” His voice cracked, and he squeezed his eyes shut. His shoulders shook as he forced himself to continue.

”Please... please don’t come.”

The warehouse fell into dead silence, everyone holding their breath as Jai begged.

His voice softened, but the weight of it was crushing.

”Not you. Not Grandpa.”

He pressed the walkie closer to his lips as if that would make the words reach them faster.

”If you guys come here... I swear I’ll walk into the zombie swarm outside.”

A sharp inhale came from the other side of the transmission.

Yunfeng’s eyes widened.

”Jai!” he grabbed his best friend’s arm, but Jai shook him off, his entire body trembling.

Jai’s fathers voice was rigid, choked.

”You wouldn’t.”

Jai let out a wet, shaky laugh.

”Try me.”

The line crackled.

”Jai...” Shin Shinju’s voice was firmer now, laced with that familiar military steel. ”You can throw tantrums all you want, son, but I’m still your father. And I will not leave you there to die.”

Jai’s breath hitched.

”It’s not a tantrum, Dad! You think this is some teenage rebellion? We’re surrounded. The last team got blown out of the fucking sky!” His voice rose, eyes red, heart pounding. ”Do you want that to happen to you too?! Do you want me to watch you burn from the roof?!”

”Enough.” His father’s voice cut through like a blade.

”You are my son. My father is there too. I made the choice to send Team Alpha—don’t make me regret not coming myself the first time. Now I have to make it right. If we don’t extract you, none of you will survive another week.”

Jai collapsed back against a stack of crates, the walkie clutched tight to his chest. His face was pale, smeared with tears.

”I don’t care if we survive...” he whispered, voice hoarse. ”If you come here and die, I don’t care about surviving anymore.”

Yunfeng sat down beside him, slowly taking the walkie out of his hands.

”Uncle... he means it.”

There was a long pause. On the other side, it sounded like muffled breathing—maybe restrained sobbing—or maybe static. Then:

”I’m coming.” Shin Shinju voice cracked, just slightly. ”But I’ll bring hell with me before anything touches you, Jai.”

The line went dead.

Jai stared forward blankly, chest heaving. Then he buried his face in his arms and let out a broken, guttural sound—somewhere between a sob and a scream.

Muchen walked over, gently kneeling in front of him. ”Let it out,” he said softly.

Jai did.
