Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

The bright moon hung high like a round jade mirror, its cold light pouring down and shrouding the entire Beast Forest.

From deep within the forest came the low, rolling roars of fiend beasts, rising and falling without end.

Lin Langtian sat cross‑legged in the back of the wagon. Compared to the soft tents the others enjoyed, his accommodation was clearly nothing special.

He had no complaints. In the eyes of the caravan, he was little more than a large burden right now.

On the Tianxuan Continent, he might have been the Heavenly Ancestor, worshiped by countless beings, but here in the Great Thousand World, he was just a new player. He accepted that readily enough.

Sitting cross‑legged, he formed a cultivation seal with his hands. Faint golden light flickered over his skin.

A subtle devouring force spread out, drawing the ambient spiritual energy into his body, where it was refined into his own spiritual power and used to slowly nourish his badly damaged meridians and bones.

The Great Thousand World cultivated spiritual energy, so healing his wounds was, at the same time, the process of transforming his yuan power into spiritual power.

Or rather, with his yuan power already depleted, it was less a conversion than an adaptation—teaching his body to accept and wield spiritual energy.

As the new power seeped through his meridians, he felt his once‑stable cultivation begin to loosen, inching toward a higher level.

”Oh? A breakthrough?”

He blinked, then smiled.

On the Tianxuan Continent he had reached the Ancestor Realm, equivalent to a First‑Grade Supreme in the Great Thousand World. If he broke through again, he would become a Second‑Grade Supreme.

It might have been only a small step on paper, but to Lin Langtian it was cause for real excitement.

This place truly was a paradise for cultivation. The sheer density and quality of its spiritual energy left any lower plane far behind.

As spiritual power surged, the distant echoes of dragon roars and kun cries rang in his body. With each pulse, brilliant golden light flared more brightly within him, and his earlier weakness ebbed bit by bit.

Feeling these changes, he quietly let out a breath. Just as he was about to withdraw from his cultivation state, something occurred to him.

He took out the pill Song Yanfei had given him earlier. After inhaling the faint fragrance lingering on it, he examined it briefly, then popped it into his mouth.

At once, vast, pure power flooded from the pill like a rising tide, spreading through his limbs and bones.

”Oh…”

The sudden rush left him stunned. He had not expected something that looked like an ordinary pill to have such a powerful effect.

The Great Thousand World’s alchemy clearly outstripped that of the Tianxuan Continent.

”Lin Langtian, that’s just a common healing pill here—a Returning Spirit Pill. Nothing to be so surprised about,” came Aunt Ling’s familiar voice in his mind.

”Aunt Ling, you’re awake?” he said, delighted.

He had called to her many times since the storm, but gotten no answer. It seemed she, too, had been knocked unconscious, which had worried him.

Hearing her again now, he finally relaxed.

”When we hit that spatial storm, you blacked out. I had to use some methods to shield you, which burned a lot of my energy. That’s why I fell asleep afterward,” Aunt Ling said.

”Thank you for saving my life,” Lin Langtian replied, a hint of lingering fear in his heart.

The storm had been truly terrifying.

”There’s no need for thanks. You may have been unmatched on the Tianxuan Continent, but tasting a spatial storm is good for you. Otherwise you might think the Great Thousand World is easy to wander,” she said dryly.

Lin Langtian could only give a wry smile.

He had never underestimated the Great Thousand World. It was, after all, the center of all planes, where experts gathered like clouds. With his current strength, he might as well be an ant.

Even so, he did not look down on himself, either. He knew his advantages.

First, he had already solidified his martial path on the Tianxuan Continent. His Yuan‑Demonic Power had been further fused with spiritual demonic energy, and his combat power had soared again.

From here, he only needed to advance step by step, and he would one day, like Xiao Yan and Lin Dong, reach his own peak.

Second, as Plane Master of the Tianxuan Continent, he would receive immense support when charging toward the Earth Supreme or even Heaven Supreme realms. That alone was a tremendous edge.

Having roughly laid out his future, he suddenly remembered something. ”Aunt Ling, do you know where Lin Dong ended up?”

”Your clansman? No. After the storm took you, you were tossed onto the Qiankun Continent. As for Lin Dong, he’s probably already landed safely somewhere,” she said after a pause.

”So we got separated…”

He shook his head with a helpless smile.

They had barely set foot in the Great Thousand World before the storm had scattered them.

No doubt Lin Dong, wherever he was now, was worried as well.

But even separated, Lin Langtian had faith in him. With his abilities, Lin Dong would carve out a place for himself soon enough.

He was, after all, the man destined to become Martial Ancestor. On the Tianxuan Continent, circumstances had often put Lin Langtian slightly ahead. But in the wider world of the Great Thousand World, Lin Langtian knew Lin Dong’s brilliance would one day shine on its own.

Pushing thoughts of Lin Dong aside for the moment, Lin Langtian listened to the beastly roars echoing in the distance and asked, ”Aunt Ling, do you know anything about this Qiankun Continent we’re on?”

”Qiankun Continent? Never heard of it. It’s probably a small continent. The Great Thousand World has thousands of them, even after the extraterritorial fiends took half. I’ve never known them all.”

She paused, then went on, ”Still, for you right now, this place is ideal. On the top‑tier continents, experts are everywhere and the fights between major powers are brutal. As a newcomer, if you’re drawn into their struggles by accident, you’ll be in grave danger.

”A small continent like Qiankun is still a major step up from the Tianxuan Continent. You can train here, then move to a higher‑tier land once you’re ready. By then, you’ll have a much better chance of surviving the higher currents.”

Lin Langtian considered her words, then nodded.

He knew quite well that while Heaven Supremes and Earth Supremes were not exactly as common as stray dogs, in certain long‑standing clans and on the great central continents, they were hardly rare.

With his present power, he would be helpless before a High‑Grade Supreme, let alone an Earth or Heaven Supreme.

For now, a modest place like Qiankun Continent was exactly what he needed.

Judging by the Song Clan escort team alone, it was clear this ”little” continent was already far beyond the Tianxuan Continent.

…

Within the quiet Beast Forest, human presence was rare. Yet atop a certain hill, firelight and bustling voices pushed back the usual chill.

The noise spread outward, driving away the oppressive silence.

Several large bonfires lit the camp, painting everything in warm tones.

Clusters of guards sat around the flames, wine jars in hand. Laughter rang out as they clinked jars together before tipping them back amid loud cheers.

Lin Langtian sat by one of the fires. A few days with the Song Clan had seen his wounds nearly healed and left him on friendly terms with many in the caravan.

As he studied the starry sky, comparing it to that of the Tianxuan Continent, the pink tent at the camp’s center suddenly stirred.

Under the moonlight, a graceful figure stepped out—Song Yanfei.

Her damp hair hung loose over her shoulders, still carrying a faint trace of moisture from a recent bath. It lent her a softer, more alluring air.

Many of the younger guards felt their hearts speed up at the sight of her.

Even Lin Langtian could not help but look twice.

He had barely been married half a month before journeying to the Great Thousand World; he had not even had time to properly warm his bed. It was a pitiful thought.

At least Ling Qingzhu, Tang Xinlian, and Ying Xiaoxiao had given him a single night of shared bliss before he left.

”Heh, what’s this? Has our young lady bewitched you?” Song Jiang suddenly sidled up, teasing in a low voice.

Lin Langtian blinked, then shook his head with a rueful smile.

He had simply been lost in thoughts of his wives at home—not drooling over the young mistress.

”Don’t be shy. Among all the younger guards of the Song Clan, who isn’t under her spell?

”They all know, though, that it can only stay in their hearts. The young lady is already at the Transforming Sky stage at such a young age. Her talent ranks among the very best in the clan, and she’s said to have a real chance of stepping into the Supreme Realm someday.

”With our lowly status, thinking of her that way is like a toad dreaming of swan meat,” Song Jiang said with a sigh, patting Lin Langtian’s shoulder.

Lin Langtian nodded slightly. He still wasn’t sure how strong the Beiling Song Clan truly was, but a young woman of Song Yanfei’s status clearly stood far above common guards.

From Song Jiang’s words, it sounded as though there were indeed Supremes in Beiling City.

As for the mightiest experts of the Qiankun Continent, he could only guess.

After drying her hair by the fire, Song Yanfei soon rose to her feet.

Her frost‑cool gaze swept across the camp and settled on Song Jiang. ”Increase the watch tonight. Tomorrow we’ll be crossing the territory of the Skyfiend Wolf, Huanglie. Everyone needs to stay sharp.”

With that, she turned and slipped back into her tent, snuffing out the light inside.

The camp’s mood sobered at once. Several guards scowled and muttered curses under their breath.

Lin Langtian could not hear the details from where he sat, but he caught the words ”Skyfiend Wolf” and guessed it must be the ”Skyfiend Wolf, Huanglie” she had mentioned.

”Damn it, I almost forgot that greedy, lecherous bastard…” Song Jiang snarled. ”Enough rest. Double the number of sentries tonight. No mistakes.”

At his barked orders, the men rose at once and fanned out to strengthen the camp’s defenses and hidden sentry posts.

Watching the mood shift, Lin Langtian narrowed his eyes slightly. After a moment, he stood and asked, ”Brother Song, who is this ’Skyfiend Wolf’ Huanglie?”

Song Jiang gave a bitter smile. ”Around midday tomorrow, we’ll be passing through a place called Skyfiend Plains. It’s the territory of a spirit beast—a Skyfiend Wolf named Huanglie.

”He’s only just reached the Supreme Realm himself, but even Second‑Grade Supremes don’t like dealing with him.

”As the Wolf King, he commands all the spirit wolves on the plains beneath the Supreme level. He’s held the region for years.

”Any caravan that wants to pass has to pay a hefty toll. Refuse, and you’ll be lucky to leave Skyfiend Plains alive.”

Lin Langtian nodded, understanding at last why the young mistress and the guards were so tense.

Even Song Yanfei, their strongest, had not yet reached the Supreme Realm. Against Huanglie, they were badly outmatched.

”Let’s just hope he doesn’t open his lion’s mouth tomorrow. Sigh. Brother Lin, get some rest. I need to make the rounds and ensure everything’s ready.”

Song Jiang clapped his shoulder once more, then strode off into the night.

Shaking his head with a faint smile, Lin Langtian returned to his small tent.

He did not sleep. Instead, he cultivated for another hour before finally nodding in satisfaction.

”Another few days and these injuries should be completely healed. I might even break through…”

Feeling the changes within him, he pressed his lips together in a faint smile, then settled back into a cross‑legged posture, cautiously drawing in the spiritual energy of this new world as he strove to adapt to the Great Thousand World’s power as quickly as possible.
