Chapter 184: Chapter 120: Taking Over as City Lord (Part 3)

Suddenly, it somewhat detested the sensation of flying, because after four days of doing so, it hadn’t descended from the sky even once.

However, it wouldn’t dare complain. It could only fly with all its might, thinking about how it could have a good sleep once it returned to Dongwu City.

”After we return this time, I’ll retire,” Eric said gently, not asking much about Baiyi’s affairs.

”Alright, do you have any plans?” Baiyi didn’t refuse, as there wasn’t much difference. Even after the Old City Lord retired, he wouldn’t leave Dongwu City; he would simply settle down to enjoy his retirement.

Eric thought for a moment, his muddy eyes gleamed slightly, and he said, ”Didn’t you open many schools? The Dongwu Swordsman School is pretty good; I could be a principal there.”

”That would be perfect. With you teaching, the students’ futures would be limitless,” Baiyi smiled, complimenting him.

If Eric were to become the principal, it would be another selling point for Dongwu City; those wealthy merchants and even commoners would be eager to get into that school, wouldn’t they?

After all, in the swordsman profession, besides the Old Sword Saint, only Patriarch Will in the entire Federation could surpass Eric.

The reason they could surpass him was that the Old City Lord was a Demon Swordsman, while Patriarch Will was a Swordsman.

”Haha, don’t flatter this old man; I’m just finding something to do for myself. When I was the City Lord, I could ponder about how to give more opportunities to those below me. Now that I’ve stepped down, there’s not much else to do,” Eric said with some sentimentality while sitting on the protruding metal seat atop the Bone Dragon, looking into the distance with fatigue in his eyes. This fatigue started to appear when he spoke of stepping down, becoming more evident now.

Baiyi softly comforted him, ”How could that be? Dongwu City can’t do without you. It was, is, and always will be.”

Eric adjusted his emotions, looked into the distance, and smiled, ”Actually, when I was very young, my dream was to be a teacher because I thought teachers were amazing back then. Now, over four hundred years later, this childhood wish has come true unexpectedly.”

”Enough about that; I have a few things I need you to agree to,” Eric turned to Baiyi and said seriously.

”Go ahead,” Baiyi replied.

”Regardless of how much you can achieve in the end, and no matter at what time, you must not hinder the path of advancement for commoners,” the Old City Lord said with a very serious, even solemn, tone, ”No matter how much benefit it brings you, you must remember this.”

Baiyi looked into Eric’s eyes, full of sincerity, ”You can rest assured of that; the Federation’s foundation will never change.”

Eric stared at him for a long time, nodding, and then looked into the distance again.

His tone turned nostalgic, ”You, too, climbed up from being a commoner. As you experience more things in the future, you’ll find that such a vast Federation cannot be fully guarded even by the Legendary. No one can face all threats alone.”

”You are a genius, but you need a second, third, and countless more of you to appear. Only then can the Federation be passed down forever.”

Baiyi’s tone remained earnest, ”I understand, I’m very clear on that.”

Eric nodded, falling silent.

The dragon flew at incredibly high speed, and the outline of Dongwu City gradually appeared. The city walls remained majestic, and more people entered and exited through the city gates.

Even though it was a Border City, it couldn’t impede the prosperity of Dongwu City at this moment.

The dragon glided low, causing exclamations. Outsiders pointed at the sky, while locals proudly explained who Baiyi was.

When the dragon stopped in the Inner City District, the scenes before him were quite surprising.

Everything updated, the ground was immensely clean, buildings growing taller, everywhere shone with neon lights, and signs had changed to intelligent LCD screens or even virtual devices.

Every helipad and parking lot was filled with vehicles.

Baiyi even saw a sign on a helipad: ”Helicopter takeoffs are prohibited from 10 PM in Dongwu City. Violators will be shot down.”

Baiyi: ”How long have we been gone?”

Zero: ”It’s now Dawn Calendar, 1537, August 1st.”

Baiyi was startled, less than four days had passed, yet a month had already gone by outside. The flow of time in the Nightmare World truly differed from the outside world, but Baiyi hadn’t expected it to pass so quickly.

Baiyi: ”Summarize the changes of this past month into a report.”

Zero: ”Please hold on...”

Eric looked at the Inner City District, which had completely transformed, then at the unchanged Outer City District, feeling somewhat satisfied.

This scene, where the inside represented the future and the outside the past, proved that Sabo hadn’t forgotten the Federation’s foundation. It relieved him enough to entrust Dongwu City to the younger generation.

The fatigue in Eric’s eyes dissipated somewhat, ”The outcome of your appointment will be announced tomorrow morning, so come for the handover then.”

With that, without waiting for Baiyi’s response, he lightly tapped his toes and effortlessly merged into the crowd, eagerly inspecting the new changes in the Inner City District.

Baiyi thought for a moment and walked towards the Potion Shop. He needed to first secure the Divine Showcase, as he couldn’t safely place the Divine Showcase into the Space Ring, so he had to let it use its own power to enter.

Once it was secured, he had to complete a mission for it, which hopefully wouldn’t be too difficult; otherwise, it would be purely troublesome.

Remembering something, he glanced at the forum, where several large grey words were very prominent.

”Public Test Countdown: 15 days, 22 hours, 15 minutes.”
