Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 1041: Chapter 1041: Afraid to Move Lest the Water in My Brain Spills Out

Han Yan was eating something, but her gaze drifted over to Princess Jin Hua. Naturally, Princess Jin Hua’s eyes fell on Ye Lanfeng, who was beside Han Yan. That hesitant look, almost like she wanted to say something but couldn’t, made Han Yan’s teeth ache. Anyone unaware might have thought Ye Lanfeng was the heartbreaker who wronged Princess Jin Hua. As soon as Princess Jin Hua met Han Yan’s gaze, her expression became complicated.

”Brother, who is that woman? Why is she looking at you?” Mu Hanfeng, noticing Princess Jin Hua’s gaze, whispered to Han Yan.

”That’s Princess Jin Hua,” Han Yan replied quietly. ”Last time, she tried to use me as a stepping stone to win Lanfeng’s favor, but it backfired on her.”

”What?” Mu Hanfeng’s brows twitched. The information in Han Yan’s words was overwhelming, filling his mind with numerous possibilities. What was clear, though, was that Princess Jin Hua liked Ye Lanfeng, while Ye Lanfeng and his sister were mutually in love. Well, that puts Princess Jin Hua in the annoying category.

While the siblings whispered to each other, the Emperor had already enthusiastically announced the purpose of tonight’s banquet. Though the word ’enthusiastic’ might not quite suit a monarch, once everyone learned who the guest of honor was, they completely understood why the Emperor was so pleased.

”Today, the Holy Saint of the Holy Court has arrived in our Anyun Country, an immense honor for us,” the Emperor briskly walked down, directly approaching Ye Lanfeng with a smile, ”This is the Holy Saint of the Holy Court, Lord Ye Lanfeng.”

What?

As soon as the Emperor finished speaking, everyone was shocked.

The Holy Court was the utmost authority on the entire Holy Court Continent.

It wasn’t just about prestige, but power as well.

The Holy Court was almost like a deity in people’s hearts.

It had the power to change the ruler of a small nation overnight, or to wipe out a family that threatened a nation in an instant. One could only imagine its influence and power.

In the past, emissaries from the Holy Court had visited Anyun Country, but never someone of the noble status of a Holy Saint.

Even as seasoned and steady as Mu Beichen was, his expression changed at this moment.

Though he’d long known his future grandson-in-law wasn’t an ordinary person, he hadn’t anticipated such a grand background!

Han Yan was momentarily stunned too, then quickly regained her composure. No matter Ye Lanfeng’s identity, he was still the same Ye Lanfeng she knew, the one who always protected her and gave up everything for her. Therefore, Han Yan did not care about his identity.

The hall was filled with exclamations, while Princess Jin Hua proudly raised her chin, that honored look making others wince.

Mu Chengxuan had also attended today, and watched in shock as Ye Lanfeng maintained his indifferent demeanor, feeling his face burn at the realization. He had once treated this gentleman as a servant and even humiliated him. Saying that he was Han Yan’s servant, he had just scorned Han Yan for bringing a servant to such a grand banquet. Now he wished he could find a hole to hide in. How could he have been so blind to take someone for a servant? Mu Chengxuan felt he had never been as embarrassed as he was now.

And in the hall, no one’s face was more interesting than the Fifth Prince’s. Qu Fengting stood lifelessly behind the Fifth Prince, shocked by the news, yet oddly accepting. It wasn’t entirely unexpected; anything involving Han Yan always went disastrously wrong... He glanced at the Fifth Prince, whose face alternated between green, white, black, and red, vividly expressing his emotions. Remembering the words the Fifth Prince used to win over Lord Ye earlier, Qu Fengting shuddered. Truly, why did every encounter with Han Yan end with humiliation? This time it wasn’t just a slap; it was a complete wipeout!

At that moment, the Fifth Prince only felt like the sky was falling, leaving him in despair... Afraid to move, fearing that any motion would spill over his mind’s folly. That person was the Holy Saint, unbelievably noble. Who the hell said he was a servant? How did he ever come to mistakenly think that person was a servant? That aura, that demeanor, like a servant? What should he do now? Would the gentleman be angry enough to tear his head off? If his father knew he had humiliated the gentleman so, he’d probably not only fail to save him but might offer his head as a stool for the Holy Saint. Now he finally understood what Ye Lanfeng meant with his earlier words.

How could he possibly satisfy Lord Ye’s desires, when the other party was the Holy Saint of the Holy Court? What he wanted, Ye could certainly offer, especially with the Holy Saint’s intervention, even the succession to the throne could be changed. Ahhhh! It’s over, over... If only he had been able to latch on to such a powerful figure. Why was Han Yan so lucky, but he so unfortunate? Standing in place, the Fifth Prince hoped the honorable Holy Saint would release him like a breeze.

After that night, Ye Lanfeng naturally did not return to the Mu Family with Han Yan but went to the posthouse. Han Yan returned home with the Mu Family members, and Ye Lanfeng’s identity soon spread throughout the Mu Family.

”Wow, I never expected Brother Ye’s identity to be so noble,” Zirong exclaimed dramatically.

”I recall him once boldly declaring himself as the gentleman’s henchman, who gave him the courage to speak like that?” Huayue teased.

”Love gave him the courage,” Jiang Yuzhe said mournfully.

After speaking, Zirong and Huayue gave him an odd look.

”What? Did I say something wrong?” Jiang Yuzhe asked nervously, uneased by their stares.

”Eating walnuts does work,” Huayue patted Jiang Yuzhe’s shoulder with an approving look.

”Keep eating them, eat more in the future,” Zirong encouraged him.

Jiang Yuzhe twitched his lips, gritted his teeth, and finally couldn’t hold back from drawing his sword. The three immediately began sparring in the courtyard with clattering sounds.

Han Yan and Mu Hanfeng sat calmly on the stone bench in the courtyard, watching the three fool around.

...

The next day was the academy’s enrollment day, but early before dawn, Ye Lanfeng came to bid farewell to Han Yan.

”Are you really leaving?” Han Yan looked at Ye Lanfeng with reluctance.

”Yes, there are things I need to find answers to.” Ye Lanfeng’s eyes brimmed with reluctance, but he resolutely spoke.

”Because of that person with the silver mask?” Watching his eyes, Han Yan again saw the complex emotions that were difficult to decipher, her mind flashing back to that mysterious figure.

”I once had a best friend, who was also my elder brother, and even my mentor. He taught me many, many things. I once believed he was dead, everyone said he was dead,” Ye Lanfeng said solemnly.

Through his eyes, Han Yan seemed to glimpse the sorrow within his heart.
