Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

...

”Sir...” Atop the tall watchtower of the City Lord’s Mansion in the distance, Zhou Binghai, shadow-like, spoke hesitantly and with difficulty to Ye Lanfeng in a low voice, ”Could Han Yan be the person we’re looking for?” With Han Yan possessing such formidable strength, could he be the target of their mission? If not, all would be well, but if he was... In the past few days, Zhou Binghai had seen very clearly that the Sir’s attitude toward Han Yan was different. What would he do?

”Perhaps,” Ye Lanfeng’s face bore no expression, and his eyes were even deeper, as he quietly spoke and then fell silent again. He gazed into the distance, his handsome features accentuated, causing hearts to flutter. No one could guess what was on his mind at the moment.

”Then, should we take him back?” Zhou Binghai asked in a low voice, probing.

”No. Some things should not be concluded prematurely before the end,” Ye Lanfeng shook his head, outright refusing. Of course, Ye Lanfeng knew the purpose of his journey, but...

If it involved Han Yan, he...

He had come tonight out of concern for Han Yan, only to witness some events that surprised him. That’s what made Zhou Binghai doubt whether Han Yan might be the person they were searching for.

Ye Lanfeng silently looked at the vast night sky and then turned around to streak through the air. Zhou Binghai hurriedly followed behind.

...

At daybreak, Han Yan yawned as he stepped out of his room. He had only just returned from Xiushui City close to dawn and had slept for less than two hours before having to get up and hurry back; even Han Yan, a Ninth-Order Swordsman, felt exhausted.

As he opened his door, he saw several of the Mu Family’s disciples and Huayue, among others, all waiting at his doorstep.

”Brother Han Yan, good morning,” Mu Nan greeted Han Yan.

Mu Xitian and the others also nodded to him, their impressions of Han Yan greatly improved after the previous day’s events. In this world, strength is what ultimately spoke the loudest.

After careful thought last night, even if Han Yan’s strength relied on his City Lord father, what was the big deal? Mu Feng was touted as one of the two great talents of the younger generation; could it be that the Great Elder had not given covert support, or even used his position for personal gain? Even for themselves, was their current strength entirely due to their own efforts?

With that thought, they felt much more at ease. Regardless of how Han Yan acquired his strength, and no matter how bad his reputation was, he had stepped forward when his kin were in trouble, and that was more commendable than what Mu Ze had done.

”I apologize, I overslept,” Han Yan said to everyone with a smile, feeling genuinely grateful for such a reception.

”No worries, no worries. I imagine Brother Han Yan must have been scared and worried all night, unable to sleep. It’s fine for you to sleep-in a bit,” Mu Ze said with a mocking smile.

Seeing him act so petty and quarrelsome even at a time like this, Mu Xitian and Mu Yuying, among others, all frowned.

”Brother Han Yan, if you’re scared, maybe we shouldn’t go to Xiushui City. We can explain your situation to the Second Elder on your behalf; perhaps the Second Elder won’t be too hard on you,” Mu Ze said, continuing his mocking tone and also employing a tactic of goading, visibly displeased with the disapproving looks from Mu Xitian and the others.

He genuinely hoped that Han Yan would face some hardships in Xiushui City; he was actually worried that Han Yan might waver overnight and then back out at the last minute.

”I appreciate the sentiment, but I’ve been entrusted with an important mission by the family. Even if I can’t complete the task, I absolutely cannot return in such a dejected manner. Let’s depart for Xiushui City,” Han Yan said with a smile, his brows lifted in buoyant confidence.
