Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 212: 212 has never been a good person

”We’ve known each other for many years, just speak freely, Third Elder,” said Qu Shanling.

”Here’s the thing, the descendants of the Mu family in my branch are thriving, particularly this generation of grandchildren, having six children in total, five sons and one daughter. I would like to ask Master Qu to help us see among these five sons and one daughter, who might be more promising in the future,” the Third Elder said.

Upon hearing this, Qu Shanling understood, though the Mu family of Heishi City had a large family business, the Third Elder was only one branch, and their family resources were limited. The Mu family was a cultivation family, and whether someone could become promising ultimately depended on cultivation, which in turn depended on various resources.

If resources were distributed evenly among everyone, eventually the family resources would be depleted, and none of the six would be well taken care of. If, however, they could select the best among them, there was a high hope of cultivating the most outstanding successor.

Of course, if the most talented person received the majority of the resources, the others were doomed to never stand out.

Survival of the fittest, this is not only a natural law but also a family law, and it is with this almost cruel law that the various aristocratic families of the Holy Court Continent have been able to continue their legacies for thousands and thousands of years.

”Alright, call them over, let the old man take a look,” Master Qu said readily. He inwardly regretted, unfortunately not knowing earlier that the Third Elder would make such a request; otherwise, he could have made contact with those youngsters earlier, give them a few secret tips, and could have gained something. Now it was too late to do anything, and it would be bad manners to refuse.

”Then I thank Master Qu deeply,” the Third Elder said joyfully, and he said to a servant, ”Call the young masters and the young miss over.”

Before long, several young people entered one by one. They had known that their grandfather was hosting an important guest today, and hearing it was a highly respected expert from beyond their reach, their expressions were a bit nervous and filled with inexplicable anticipation.

”This is the esteemed Master Qu I’ve told you about. His Star Divination Technique is unparalleled. It was with Master Qu and his master’s guidance that I managed to survive many major disasters, otherwise I would have died in the Long Yan Mountain long ago,” the Third Elder introduced.

”We have seen Master Qu, we have seen Master Qu...” Several of the younger ones respectfully bowed to Qu Shanling.

”Thank you, Master Qu, for saving my family’s ancestor. I, Mu Huaidong, am deeply grateful,” the eldest young man followed up.

This young man, named Mu Huaidong, was the Third Elder’s eldest grandson, eighteen years old this year. His cultivation talent was decent, he was clever, and also handsome. Plus, being the eldest, he usually carried a bit of pride.

However, standing before Qu Shanling now, although somewhat proud, he was neither humble nor arrogant, displaying even more demeanor, the aristocratic air of a noble family’s son, proud yet not haughty.

”No need for formalities, let’s not dwell on the past,” said Qu Shanling, who took a liking to Qu Donghuai, thinking to himself: If nothing unexpected happens, the family business of this branch of the Third Elder should be inherited by him. Of course, anything unexpected could happen in this world, and right now, the biggest variable was himself.

He wondered whether this young man knew how to play his cards right. If he did, he could indeed add luster to his success; if not, it would be a wasted effort.

That being said, Qu Shanling, this old man, had never really been a good person.

”The purpose for which the Third Elder called you here is something you should all be aware of by now. I am modestly proficient in the Star Divination technique, and today, I am here to perform a reading for you,” said Qu Shanling, clearing his throat. As he spoke, his gaze was fixed on Mu Huaidong.
