Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

A newbie spending this much all at once?

’She must be rich.’

The thought sparked a devious idea in his mind.

If her son, Marlon Marshall, was this reckless, then his mother was setting an even worse example.

Mrs. Marshall had recently been using mahjong as an excuse to go out and keep Jason Irving as her boy toy. She was practically attached at his hip.

Tonight, after leaving the salon, Mrs. Marshall drove her own car, bringing Jason Irving to a high-end residential complex—right to her own front door.

”This is your place?” Jason Irving knew she was a rich woman, but he hadn’t expected her to be *this* wealthy. Anyone who could afford a house here was definitely not poor.

Mrs. Marshall chuckled. ”I won’t hide it from you. This is indeed my home. Want to come in for a bit?”

A corner of Jason Irving’s mouth lifted. ”I have a feeling your family’s home. They probably wouldn’t be too happy to see me, so I think I’ll pass.”

Mrs. Marshall lowered her voice. ”It’s just my daughter-in-law and a housekeeper at home. My son won’t be back until midnight, as usual. We can just go to my room. It’ll be fine.”

Jason Irving nodded. ”Alright.”

With her key, Mrs. Marshall quietly unlocked the main door and led Jason Irving inside, sneaking around like a thief.

Instead of cutting through the living room, they took the exterior staircase straight upstairs.

After they went up, the housekeeper, who was still awake and sitting in the living room, heard a noise. She came out to check, assumed it was just Mrs. Marshall returning, and went back to the living room. Glancing up at the clock, she realized how late it was and decided to go to bed as well.

Her room was directly below Mrs. Marshall’s.

The housekeeper thought Mrs. Marshall was being rather neurotic, making a racket in the middle of the night instead of sleeping.

The commotion was making it impossible for her to fall asleep.

So, the housekeeper went up the interior staircase.

As she reached the door, the noise suddenly stopped.

Just as she stood frozen in front of the door, she heard a man’s voice.

She instantly understood what was happening.

She quickly turned and went back to her room. She didn’t sleep well that night. As dawn approached, she finally dialed Jean Grant’s number.

She told her what she had heard the previous night.

Jean Grant said a few words to soothe her, told her to act as if she knew nothing, and said she would be back soon.

After hanging up, Jean Grant got out of bed, pushed open the door to the other bedroom, and found that Ethan Ellsworth was also awake.

Her eyes were a little dark as she said, ”I have to go home.”

Ethan Ellsworth stood up. ”I’ll take you. It’s just after six. Let’s grab some breakfast before you go back. It’ll warm you up.”

She didn’t refuse.

The two of them went to a street stall for some soup dumplings and soy milk.

After dropping her off at the entrance to the upscale villa community, Ethan Ellsworth drove away.

Jean Grant watched his car leave, a realization dawning deep in her eyes. ’It wasn’t that I don’t love him; it’s that he was buried so deep in my heart I thought I couldn’t see him, thought he wasn’t there at all.’

”Jean!”

Hearing the shout, Jean Grant turned around. Zoe Ellsworth’s car came roaring up and stopped beside her. ”Jean! I can’t believe I ran into you this early in the morning.”

Jean Grant saw her rosy, glowing face and figured she must be living well.

”What brings you here so early?”

Zoe Ellsworth replied, ”Didn’t I mention a few days ago I was thinking of moving here? I’m here to check out the house first. I haven’t really seen it yet, so I came to take a look. My husband said it’s already been renovated. I’m here to see how it is. If it doesn’t need any more work, I plan to move in within the next couple of days. That way, we can keep each other company.”

Jean Grant nodded. ”Zoe, if you move in, we can see each other often.”

She nodded. ”I’m just going to park the car by the gate. Wait for me here, I’ll be right back. It’s been a while, Jean. We should have a proper chat. I can look at the house later.”

Jean Grant readily agreed. ”Okay.”

She watched Zoe Ellsworth drive the car a short distance away, then watched her sprint back like an excited child. Jean Grant thought, ’Before I got married, I was just like Zoe. But after marriage, I became her complete opposite. Marriage really isn’t the kind of love you can see with your own two eyes.’

’You really need to know a man through and through before you marry him. Zoe is so lucky.’

”Jean, you don’t look so good,” Zoe Ellsworth said, looking her over.

The two of them walked toward the main gate of Jean Grant’s house.

”I didn’t sleep well last night,” she explained.

”So you went for a walk this early?”

Jean Grant nodded.

Just as they reached the main gate, they heard Mrs. Marshall’s voice from inside. ”You need to leave right now, before anyone sees you.”

Before they could hear a reply, the main gate opened.

They all stared at each other.

Jean Grant had already prepared herself, but seeing her mother-in-law coming out with a man about her own age, especially after what happened last night, filled her with shame.

Before she could speak, Zoe Ellsworth, who was beside her, piped up. ”Well, well, if it isn’t Jason Irving.”

Jean Grant looked at her. ”Zoe, you know him.”

Zoe Ellsworth nodded. ”Of course I do. He was a classmate of mine, but now it seems he’s one of those pretty boys for hire.”

At these words, the color drained from Mrs. Marshall’s face. She urged Jason Irving to leave quickly.

”If there’s nothing else, you should get going,” she said, but her denial only made her look more guilty.

Jason Irving didn’t move. He glared at Zoe Ellsworth, grinding his teeth. ”Zoe Ellsworth, you don’t have to be so nasty.”

Zoe Ellsworth snorted. ”So you can do shady things, but other people aren’t allowed to talk about it?”

Jason Irving’s expression turned ugly. Even if he was up to no good, he didn’t want to be called out so bluntly in front of everyone.

Defeated and speechless, he left in a huff.

Zoe Ellsworth turned to Mrs. Marshall, her voice dripping with sarcasm. ”So, Auntie, how was last night?”

Mrs. Marshall refused to admit anything. ”You little brat, what kind of way is that to talk? I’m his relative. I just asked him over to discuss something.”

Jean Grant countered, ”Mom, what kind of relative is he?”

Mrs. Marshall said, ”He’s my nephew from my side of the family.”

Zoe Ellsworth laughed. ”Auntie, you’re such a terrible liar. Jason Irving has been an orphan since he was a child; he grew up in an orphanage. Your nephew? Don’t tell me you grew up in an orphanage too?”

Mrs. Marshall was instantly struck dumb, unable to continue her lie.

”Look, your husband’s not around, so it’s only natural you’d hire a gigolo to vent some frustration and fill the void. But why bother making up such flimsy lies? Come on, if you’re going to lie, at least do it well, okay?”

Zoe Ellsworth always had a way of cutting right to the bone, and her words struck Mrs. Marshall’s sore spot directly.

”No manners!”

Zoe Ellsworth blew up. ”You old hag, who are you calling mannerless?!”

Mrs. Marshall was furious too. ”I’m talking about you! What are you going to do about it? You think you have the guts to hit me?”

”You think I don’t?” Zoe Ellsworth grabbed a handful of Mrs. Marshall’s hair, kneed her, and threw her straight to the ground.

Jean Grant shut the main gate, showing no intention of breaking up the fight.

”AH!” Mrs. Marshall shrieked, her wails turning into theatrical sobs. ”Oh my god! Is there no law and order anymore?! Somebody help! I’m being beaten to death!”
