Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

At this point, even a blind person could tell what was going on inside.

Jean Grant didn’t go closer. Instead, she stood there for a while, listening to her husband whisper sweet nothings to another woman.

The chill in her heart was too profound to describe.

It was the worst possible situation. Jean Grant turned and walked back to her car. Sitting in the driver’s seat, she still couldn’t calm herself down.

She thought about all the time she had spent with Marlon Marshall and came to a conclusion.

’His words were never very clever, yet I believed him so readily. If that’s not stupid, what is? Thankfully, it’s not too late to know the truth now.’

Her personality was not one to endure things in silence.

Jean Grant knew it would be all too easy to destroy Marlon Marshall, but she wasn’t going to let him pay the price so simply.

That would be letting him off too easy.

Perhaps she was the type of woman who had to hit rock bottom before turning back. And now that she’d hit it, bleeding and bruised, she had paid a heavy price.

She had missed out on others only to end up with a scumbag.

’What on earth is love? Why is it that you only wake up completely when you’re bleeding all over the floor?’

Jean Grant looked at her current state, her heart aching unbearably.

She took out her phone and scrolled through her contacts, but she had no idea who to call.

’Who could I cry to? No, I’m not the kind of woman who lets others see her in such a pathetic state.’

She started the car and left.

She drove until she reached the Grant Residence.

Mrs. Grant was happy to see her return, but after taking in her appearance, she asked, ”Jean, did you not get dressed up today?”

Jean sat down next to her. ”Mom, if I told you I regret marrying Marlon Marshall, would you kill me?”

Mrs. Grant was surprised. ”Jean, what’s wrong now? Weren’t you the one who was dying to marry him? What’s the matter? Is he treating you badly?”

Jean leaned back on the sofa and looked down at her round belly.

”This baby... I don’t want it anymore.”

Mrs. Grant jumped in fright. ”Jean, tell me, what on earth happened? The baby is already over four months along, don’t do anything foolish! Did that Marlon Marshall treat you poorly? I’ll go find him right now!”

Jean quickly pulled her back. ”Mom, sit down and listen to me.”

Mrs. Grant had no choice but to sit. Looking at her, she said, ”Speak.”

”At first, I thought that every child has the right to live and that I should give my baby a warm home. But now, Mom, I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want this child anymore.” It would be a torment for the child to be born into this. A man who cheats less than half a year into the marriage had shown his attitude toward it, and she, Jean Grant, was no doormat to be pushed around.

”Then tell me, if you don’t want the baby, what do you plan to do?”

Jean leaned in and whispered into her mother’s ear for a long time.

It took a moment for Mrs. Grant to process what she’d heard. ”Jean, you... how could you just come back like this? You should have slapped that animal to death! That bastard!”

”Mom, promise me you won’t tell anyone about this, not even my brother. I think I need to get back what’s mine, with interest. He’s had his taste of honey; now he’s going to get a taste of something bitter.”

Mrs. Grant looked worried. ”You have to tell me exactly what you plan to do. Otherwise, I won’t be able to rest easy.”

Jean had no choice but to confess her true thoughts. After hearing her out, Mrs. Grant’s eyes filled with heartache. ”Jean, you’ve really grown up. I’m so happy that you can see things so clearly. You’re only in your twenties, so young. Your life can’t be ruined by his hands. Mom will absolutely support you!”

”Then you have to promise me you won’t tell anyone. Not until after I’ve succeeded.”

”Okay.”

Jean’s hand suddenly clenched into a fist. She was going to personally cast a wide net and make the man who had bullied, betrayed, and deceived her pay the price.

On the way back from the Grant Residence, Jean’s face was expressionless. She stared blankly at the heavy traffic outside the window, her gaze unfocused.

When the car stopped at the main gate, only the housekeeper was home, as usual.

”Has my mother-in-law not come back yet?”

The housekeeper nodded, hesitating to speak.

”Auntie, what is it? Just say it.”

She let out a heavy sigh. ”It’s been so many days. He’s out all night, then comes back during the day just long enough to change his clothes before leaving again. Ma’am, I think something is... wrong.”

Jean gazed at her. ”I know. You don’t need to worry. Why trouble ourselves over someone who doesn’t act like family?”

The housekeeper was taken aback. ”Ma’am, you—”

Jean looked at her. ”Auntie, I’m going out tonight, too. You’re coming with me.”

”Alright.”

Jean said no more and went upstairs.

Closing the door, she leaned against it as tears streamed down her face. The sounds she had heard while standing behind his car replayed endlessly in her mind. They had only been married for a little over four months, and he was already with another woman.

Jean closed her eyes, her body trembling with a convulsive ache in her heart. ’So this is my marriage. This is the man I was so determined to marry. Fortunately, it’s not too late.’

Lying on the bed, not wanting to move an inch, she took out her phone and dialed Ethan Ellsworth’s number. A cheerful ringback tone started to play. It was one of Ethan’s own original songs. He once said the song was sickeningly sweet, yet here it was, set as his ringback tone.

It felt a little suffocating.

”Hello?” His voice was as deep as ever.

”It’s me.”

”Yeah. Have you eaten?” Ethan Ellsworth was brushing his teeth, so he had put his phone on speaker and set it aside.

Her voice was a bit hoarse. ”I’ve eaten. Ethan, when does filming wrap up?”

”Soon, in the next day or two. What’s wrong with your voice? Have you been crying?”

”No. Ethan, are you planning to marry Chloe Marshall?” As she asked the question, she felt a mix of fear and anticipation for the answer.

Ethan’s brushing paused. Staring into the mirror, he didn’t know how to answer.

Chloe Marshall, who had just walked to the bathroom door, overheard Jean’s question.

Her heart tensed up as well.

”I haven’t thought about marriage,” he said honestly.

Chloe Marshall turned and left the room.

”But if my mom keeps pushing, I’ll definitely have to get married.”

”Tonight, at the entrance of the General Hospital, wait for me. I have to see you.”

Ethan was hesitant. ”If there’s something you need to say, just tell me over the phone. I’ll be back in a couple of days after filming wraps up.”

She sounded urgent. ”Ethan, you have to come. No matter what, I have to see you. Ten o’clock. I’ll be waiting.”

With that, she hung up the phone.

Ethan glanced at his phone, rinsed his mouth, then picked up the phone and put it in his pocket. He washed his face, dried it, and walked out of the bathroom.

”Idiot, hurry up, we have to go.”

He had barely finished speaking when he looked around the room, but there was no sign of Chloe Marshall.

”Where’d she go?”

Ethan walked out of the room and went downstairs.

When he got to the dining area, he immediately spotted Chloe Marshall sitting at a table, head down, eating breakfast. He walked over and sat down beside her, noticing that she hadn’t gotten him any breakfast this time.
