”Ah~”

At this moment, a shrill scream suddenly echoed within the grand hall.

Everyone’s gaze immediately turned toward the sound, and their expressions changed drastically. They saw that the stone puppets surrounding the stone throne had all completely awakened, each one emanating an extremely dense aura of slaughter.

The moment these puppets came to life, they instantly launched deadly attacks at the nearest people. Every one of them possessed the strength of a Dou Zun, and when they all attacked at once, the force was utterly terrifying—and completely unexpected.

In an instant, the hundred-meter area around the stone throne was dyed red with fresh blood. The thick stench of blood quickly spread through the air.

”The puppets have awakened.”

Seeing this, Wei Yang and the others exhaled lightly, their eyes narrowing.

Each of these puppets had Dou Zun-level strength, and now that they had begun their massacre, they were like tigers thrown into a flock of sheep.

Aside from the Dou Zun experts present, the Dou Zong cultivators had no way to resist—most of them were ripped apart before they could even react.

”These puppets are different from the ones we met at the entrance. There’s still some trace of life left in their eyes.” Xiao Yan’s gaze fell upon the closest puppet rampaging nearby as he spoke.

The others also looked toward that puppet’s eyes—and indeed, unlike the hollow gaze of ordinary puppets, there burned within them an intense killing intent, mixed with the faint flicker of living energy.

”These are ancient Human Puppets,” Wei Yang explained quietly. ”They were created by using special methods to extract a powerful expert’s soul from their body, then sealing it within a puppet’s vessel.”

”Puppets made this way not only retain their intelligence but can also use the Dou Techniques they mastered in life—making them far more troublesome than ordinary ones.”

Compared to the Sky Demon Puppet, the Human Puppet was unquestionably far stronger. Hearing this, everyone couldn’t help but draw in a sharp breath.

That ancient Dou Sheng truly had ruthless methods. To create so many puppets, he must have killed at least a dozen Dou Zun-level experts and turned them into soulless slaves.

Inside the vast hall, the situation—which was already chaotic—became even more disastrous with the addition of these berserk killing puppets.

At this point, even those who had intended to sit back and reap the fisherman’s profit could no longer stay idle. After all, these puppets, driven purely by the instinct to kill, attacked anyone they saw—now treating everyone present as enemies.

Roooar!

Silver flames surged forth as nine silver fire dragons coiled into the air. Tang Zhen finally made his move, blocking one of the incoming Human Puppets to protect the group from Burning Flame Valley.

”Xiao Yan, you go deal with one of those puppets too,” Wei Yang said, glancing at the chaotic hall. ”And try to grab one of the scrolls. Don’t get greedy—just take one to make it look convincing.”

At this moment, everyone had lost their minds under the lure of those ten floating scrolls. Their eyes were bloodshot as they frantically chased after them.

Anyone who got too close to a scroll would be instantly surrounded by others—under the violent bombardment of Dou Qi, even those who managed to touch a scroll didn’t have time to scream before they were blasted into a rain of blood.

”Got it.” Xiao Yan nodded.

Their group was already under many hidden gazes. If they didn’t make any move at all, it would only draw more unwanted attention.

Bang!

A short distance ahead, over a dozen figures suddenly exploded into a mist of blood.

From within that bloody mist, a gray shadow shot out like lightning, wielding a long spear dripping with fresh blood. The weapon cut through the air with deadly force, thrusting straight toward Wei Yang and his group.

A Human Puppet had locked onto them.

Xiao Yan grinned, his body flashing forward as he intercepted the puppet head-on.

Swish! Swish!

Qing Lin and Zi Yan also darted forward, joining forces with Xiao Yan to fight the Human Puppet. Boundless Dou Qi erupted, spreading across the sky.

At their original spot, only Wei Yang and Ah Da remained motionless. Wei Yang secretly kept his eyes fixed on the Dou Sheng skeleton, while Ah Da was on alert for any sudden danger around them.

Wei Yang’s gaze swept across the chaotic hall and the still-motionless skeleton, before finally resting on the Human Puppet that Xiao Yan and the two girls were battling.

Now that he was closer, he could see clearly that the Human Puppets’ bodies were wrapped tightly in layers of strange gray-white cloth strips—making them look somewhat like mummies.

Those cloth strips weren’t ordinary either; they shimmered with a strange luster, soft yet possessing astonishing defensive power. Even a full-force strike from a Dou Zong expert couldn’t damage those odd wrappings in the slightest.

Wei Yang only glanced at it a few more times before turning his focus back to the Dou Sheng skeleton once again. If his guess was correct, then the Hall of Souls group led by Qiong Tian Zun had also come here for the same purpose—the Dou Sheng skeleton.

Perfect. He’d just let them test out the power of that Heaven Grade Dou Technique. The Great Heaven Creation Palm?

If that Dou Technique were unleashed by the remnant soul of a Dou Sheng, its might would undoubtedly be at a world-destroying level. Even Wei Yang didn’t dare to take it head-on carelessly.

”Xiao Yan, can you try to control that Human Puppet?” Qing Lin transmitted her voice amid the battle. Hearing that, Xiao Yan quickly nodded.

Taking advantage of the moment when the Human Puppet was entangled by Qing Lin and Zi Yan, he released his soul power from between his brows—it surged forth rapidly and shot into the puppet’s body like lightning.

However, this time he wasn’t as lucky as before. Inside the puppet, at the place where one would normally plant a spiritual imprint, he sensed an incredibly powerful brand.

That brand was definitely left personally by the ancient Dou Sheng expert. Because of it, even after countless years, these Human Puppets could still flawlessly execute the orders that had been set into them.

Xiao Yan tried several times, but each attempt felt like an ant trying to shake a tree—he couldn’t budge the imprint at all.

”Can’t control it. The imprint is too strong. With my current strength, I can’t shake it in the slightest.” Retracting his spiritual power, Xiao Yan shook his head and sent the message with a tinge of regret.

If he could have subdued all these dozen Human Puppets, he would’ve gained over ten Dou Zun-level puppets out of thin air.

What a pity.

Qing Lin and Zi Yan both looked a little disappointed when they heard that, but after thinking about it, they understood.

After all, these Human Puppets had been personally refined by that ancient Dou Sheng and served as the final line of defense protecting his remains. If they could be controlled that easily, that would’ve been far too absurd.

”You two keep this puppet occupied. I’ll make a move to grab a scroll—since we’re already here, we might as well get at least one.” Xiao Yan said.

”Alright.” Qing Lin and Zi Yan both agreed without objection.

The Human Puppet was extremely troublesome—fearless of death, unafraid of injury, and capable of using Dou Techniques. It was clear that defeating it in a short time was impossible.

But that was fine—they hadn’t planned to finish it off quickly anyway. All they needed to do was hold it back for now.

At this moment, nearly everyone in the grand hall who could still fight had joined the fray. The major factions—the Heaven Demon Phoenix Clan, the Hall of Souls, the Wind and Lightning Pavilion, and others—could no longer restrain themselves and had begun fighting over the scrolls.

They were also being rather tactful, deliberately avoiding the area where Wei Yang and his group stood. While casually throwing out a few attacks to help fend off the Human Puppet, Xiao Yan’s gaze swept around, searching for a target. Soon, his eyes locked onto a streak of red light.

That streak of light—a scroll—was already stained with blood.

”That one!”

The scroll was completely crimson, and faint waves of violent energy pulsed from it—it was clearly related to the fire element, making it perfect for him.

Moreover, compared to the other scrolls, there were slightly fewer experts chasing after this one. That meant snatching it would be relatively easier.
