Chapter 267: Chapter 266: Eleven Months Training

---The Hanguri Gulf---

The Hanguri Gulf was a desolate, beautiful stretch of coast located south of the Fire Country and east of the Wind Country. It was a place where the desert met the sea, creating dramatic cliffs of sandstone that dropped into churning, turquoise waters.

It was also the perfect place to disappear.

For the past eleven months, Alaric and Haku had been like ghosts.

They had traveled the length and breadth of the minor nations. They had dismantled bandit strongholds in the Land of Rivers, disrupted slave trade routes in the Land of Tea, and hunted rogue ninjas in the chaotic borderlands.

Haku had changed.

He was taller now, his shoulders broader, his movements stripping away the last vestiges of hesitation.

It hadn’t been easy.

Since Haku already knew how to survive on his own, Alaric had focused on refining the art of living. He taught Haku how to identify rare herbs and spices in the wild... not just for medicine, but for flavor.

”Cooking is chemistry,” Alaric had said, stirring a pot of stew in a cave. ”If you can balance flavors, you can balance chakra.”

Haku took to it with a passion he hadn’t known he possessed. He became the camp chef, turning simple rations into feasts that boosted morale and stamina.

Then came the Ninjutsu.

Alaric enhanced Haku’s base affinities. Water became sharper, heavier. Wind became faster, cutting at the molecular level. Haku developed new Ice Release techniques, moving away from simple mirrors to creating complex constructs and localized blizzards.

But the real hell was the reaction training.

Alaric would activate his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and use Vulcan.

He would create metal bullets... small, dense, and faster than sound. At first, Haku was bruised black and blue. He was confident in his speed especially with the Asura’s Crest, but Alaric showed him that there was always something faster.

”Dodge,” Alaric would say, firing a projectile that curved mid-air.

Haku learned to sense the displacement of air before the bullet arrived. He learned Pre-cognition through sensory overload.

Alaric blindfolded him next. ”A sensor doesn’t need eyes. A fighter shouldn’t trust them.”

Haku learned to fight in pitch blackness, sensing the intent of an attack before the muscle twitched.

Then came the Taijutsu. Alaric taught him the Uchiha Kata... Madara’s style. It was aggressive, flowing, and brutal. But Alaric modified it. He integrated Haku’s Ice Release, creating a style where strikes froze the opponent on contact, slowing them down with every hit until they were statues.

And the gift.

One evening, by a campfire in the Land of Birds, Alaric had handed Haku a sword.

It was a straight-bladed ninjatō, simple and elegant. Alaric’s Kusanagi.

”It channels chakra perfectly,” Alaric explained. ”I’ve placed seals on the hilt to attune it to Water, Wind, and Ice... not just Lightning.”

With the sword came knowledge. Alaric drilled him in Mangetsu’s Mastery Over Weapons and Madara Uchiha’s Visionary Tactics. Haku learned to wield the blade not just as a weapon, but as an extension of his will.

And finally... Fuinjutsu.

The nights were long. Haku spent hours staring at complex diagrams, his brain aching as he tried to unravel the conditional logic of high-level seals.

”If chakra input A exceeds threshold B, then trigger release C...” Haku would mutter in his sleep.

But he learned. He learned fast. He learned so fast that Alaric often shook his head, lamenting the waste of such talent in the original anime.

Haku was turning into a monster.

Not in heart... he remained kind, polite, and gentle. But in capability? He was an assassin who could kill with hyper-effeciency, a mage who could spam Jutsus, and a seal master who could trap a soul.

---

The sun had just set over the Gulf, painting the sandstone cliffs in hues of deep purple and orange.

Haku stepped out of his tent. He stretched, feeling the cool ocean breeze on his face.

He walked to the center of the camp, where a fire pit was already prepared. He reached into his robe and pulled out a sealing scroll.

Poof.

Fresh ingredients appeared. Wild boar meat, harvested earlier that day. Herbs gathered from the cliffside. Vegetables bought from a passing caravan.

Haku got to work. He moved with the efficiency of a killer, slicing vegetables in mid-air with a kunai, searing the meat with a controlled burst of Fire Release from a tag.

The smell of roasting pork and savory spices filled the air.

Within thirty minutes, dinner was ready.

WHOOSH.

A figure dropped from the sky, landing silently on the sand. Alaric folded his gravity-defying flight, his coat settling around him.

”Ah, Sensei,” Haku looked up from the pot, smiling. He motioned to the two wooden bowls set on a flat rock. ”Just in time for dinner.”

”Oh?” Alaric walked over, sniffing the air. ”Wild boar?”

He picked up a bowl. ”It doesn’t stink. Usually, boar is gamey. You’ve improved.”

Haku chuckled, serving himself. ”I’ve been practicing. I used a rosemary infusion to neutralize the musk.”

”Hm...” Alaric nodded, impressed. ”Alchemy in the kitchen.”

They sat down on their wooden stump seats, facing the fire and the ocean.

”Itadakimasu...”

”Itadakimasu...”

They ate quietly. The only sounds were the crackling of the fire and the rhythmic crashing of the waves against the shore. It was a comfortable silence, born of months of companionship.

---

A couple of hours later, Haku found himself staring at the canvas roof of his tent. Sleep wouldn’t come. His mind was too active, processing the Fuinjutsu formulas he had studied before dinner.

He sighed, sitting up. He grabbed his outer robe and stepped out.

Alaric’s tent was empty... like usual. Alaric rarely slept during their journey; he spent his nights meditating or just... existing.

Haku walked toward the sound of the ocean.

He found Alaric standing on the shoreline, the tide washing over his boots. He was looking out at the vast, dark expanse of water, the moonlight reflecting off the surface like a path of silver.

Alaric stood with his hands in his pockets, his back to the camp. He looked like a statue, timeless and solitary.

’Most of the times, he would be smoking his cigar... guess not for now.’ Haku approached him slowly. The sand crunched softly under his feet.

”Haku...” Alaric called out without turning. ”Can’t sleep, aye?”

”Yes, Sensei,” Haku replied, coming to stand beside him.

Haku bent down and picked up a smooth, flat stone. He flicked his wrist.

Skip. Skip. Skip. Plunk.

Three skips.

”Too much wrist,” Alaric critiqued gently.

Alaric chuckled. He turned his head, looking at his student. ”Tomorrow... I want you to go bounty hunting.”

Haku paused in the middle of reaching for another stone. He straightened up, dusting off his hand.

”Bounty hunting? You have someone in mind?”

”Yep,” Alaric replied.

He bent down and picked up a jagged rock. It wasn’t aerodynamic at all.

He threw it.

SKIP-SKIP-SKIP-SKIP-SKIP...

The rock defied physics. It skipped across the water, counting up to one hundred and forty-four times before vanishing into the horizon.

Alaric grinned at Haku’s flat expression.

He reached into his sleeve and pulled out a Bingo Book. He tossed it to Haku.

”Take a look at page 43. The second guy.”

Haku caught the book. He opened it, flipping through the pages under the moonlight.

Page 43.

Name: Bakuhyō Ganri.Rank: A-Rank Missing-Nin (Iwagakure).Specialty: Explosion Release / Tracking.Bounty: 20,000,000 Ryo (Dead) / 23,000,000 Ryo (Alive).Advisory: Engage only with Superior Numbers or Jonin-level support. Target is highly volatile.Last Known Location: Village Hidden in the Valleys.

Haku read the profile. ”Explosion Release... a kekkei genkai user. A tracker. That will make him difficult to ambush.”

He looked at the map in his head. Tanigakure no Sato was close. A day’s travel.

Haku closed the book. He looked at Alaric.

”He is an A-Rank,” Haku noted. ”Experienced.”

”He is,” Alaric agreed, turning fully to face him. ”He’s killed three Jonin squads from Iwa. He’s dangerous. He’s smart. And he likes to blow things up.”

Alaric’s eyes gleamed in the dark.

”So?” Alaric asked. ”Ready to test where you stand in this world? No holding back. No mercy. Just you and the target.”

Haku looked at the Bingo Book in his hand. He felt the weight of the sword at his hip. He felt the chakra humming in his veins.

He looked up at his teacher, his eyes cold and clear as ice.

Haku smiled.

”Yes... I’m ready.”
