Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Charles Prescott didn’t say anything.

After all, he was suddenly leaving the Fawcett Group, and he wasn’t used to the idea yet.

But now...

It seemed he had no choice. Anne Sutton couldn’t wait for him to leave, and Nathan Fawcett... Nathan would never forgive him because of what happened with the child. He truly had no options left.

Mia Shaw looked at him and said, ”If you’re okay with it, let’s have lunch together tomorrow. My boss happens to be in town. You can meet him. What do you think?”

Charles replied, ”Alright.”

Mia didn’t leave that night; she stayed at Charles’s place.

The following day at noon, Charles and Mia went to meet her boss.

He had already reviewed Charles’s resume, and since Mia had made the introduction, he was quite impressed with Charles. He offered him a management position there in Veridia.

They were a foreign-invested enterprise, so they wouldn’t be influenced by the Linden Group. There were no reservations about having Charles come work for them.

After everything was settled, Mia drove Charles to the airport.

She looked at Charles and said, ”By the way, I talked to my parents recently. I told them about the Sylvia Warren situation, and they’re not so bothered by it anymore. Charles, why don’t we... get married sometime soon?”

Hearing her mention marriage, Charles looked at Mia. ”What, is this your condition for getting me the job?”

Mia looked at him and didn’t deny it. She said directly, ”You know how much I like you. I know you don’t like me back, that you’ve barely even given me the time of day. But I love you, and I’m willing to marry you. It doesn’t matter that you have nothing now.”

Charles sat in the passenger seat, looking at Mia. ”And if I don’t agree, I suppose the job offer is off the table?”

Mia didn’t say a word, offering no answer.

Her objective was clear: she just wanted this man to be with her.

Charles sat there, watching as Mia deliberately avoided the question. Her silence was a clear admission.

Looking at her, he was reminded of the times he had forced Anne Sutton’s hand.

He never would have imagined back then that he, Charles Prescott, would one day be threatened by a woman like this.

’If I don’t get with her, I’ll have nowhere else to go?’

Mia dropped Charles off at the airport, telling him to go home and think carefully about her marriage proposal.

Following Nathan Fawcett’s instructions, Noah Linden went to Westhaven to take over the Fawcett Group’s operations there.

Charles Prescott officially departed from the Fawcett Group.

Leo Prescott left along with him.

After the Fawcett Group was acquired, Charles had remained as the company’s president, but Leo Prescott no longer held any real power as he had before. He hadn’t even shown up in recent days.

The father and son had now formally left the Fawcett Group.

That evening, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett were having dinner at Mrs. Sutton’s place when Noah Linden returned.

Noah had been in Westhaven for a week.

He had taken over all operations and was back to report to Nathan.

He began, ”Charles Prescott took Henry Underwood and Grace with him.”

Both of them were his former subordinates. Henry was fiercely loyal to him. As for Grace, Charles had kept her on, but only as his assistant.

Charles didn’t take anyone else.

Nathan said to Noah, ”I understand. Thanks for your hard work. For now, I’ll leave you in charge of things in Westhaven.”

Noah said, ”Alright. But I heard Charles has joined SV.”

Like the Fawcett Group, SV is also an automobile company.

However, the Fawcett Group is a domestic brand that has risen in recent years by focusing on electric vehicles.

SV, on the other hand, is an established brand of imported cars.

Anne said, ”I know SV. Mia Shaw used to work there. She was Charles’s secretary and was with him for a time. He sent her abroad, and she joined SV. For Charles to get a job there now, it must be through her connections.”

Nathan, sitting beside her, said, ”SV’s domestic base of operations is in Veridia. Doesn’t that mean Charles will be staying in Veridia from now on?”

Noah said, ”It seems so.”

Hearing this, Anne glanced at Nathan. ”You can’t be serious. He’s moving to Veridia?”

Nathan said, ”Looks like it.”

Today was also Charles’s first day at his new job.

Mia had specially arranged a welcome party for him, and their boss, Vic, was also present.

Vic sat to the side, looked at Charles, and said, ”I hear you and Mia are preparing to get married. Mia’s not getting any younger. Since you’re getting married, you two should start planning soon.”

Charles looked up and saw Mia, dressed in an evening gown, chatting with other colleagues. She glanced over, saw him looking, and gave him a smile.

’She was clearly the one who had told everyone about the marriage!’

Charles looked at her. Although they had been together before, and he had even considered getting engaged to her at one point, this feeling of being railroaded into it now made him extremely uncomfortable.

Charles stood up and went out to the balcony.

Mia came over. Looking at him, she asked, ”Why are you out here by yourself? Are you unhappy?”

Charles said, ”You told people we’re getting married?”

Mia said, ”It’s going to happen sooner or later, isn’t it? And you already agreed.”

Charles looked at Mia and said, ”Do you really think you have me completely under your thumb now?”

Mia said, ”You don’t actually think you have other options besides SV, do you? Master Linden has already put the word out. None of the domestic competitors will hire you. There’s no place for you in the domestic auto market anymore! If it weren’t for our past, you wouldn’t even be able to get into SV. Understand?”

”...” Charles stood there, looking at Mia. ”When you were with me back then, you were nowhere near the position you’re in today! Mia, if it weren’t for me, would you be where you are now?”

Hearing this, Mia didn’t deny it. ”I am truly grateful to you. I wanted to stay by your side, but you kicked me out because I offended Anne Sutton. You forced me to go study abroad. You’re the one who gave me this opportunity! Otherwise, I wouldn’t be where I am today. But because of that, I can now stand before you like this, can’t I?”

She knew many girls like her had been with him.

But he had dumped all of them.

Some of them never even recovered after he left them.

He was a cold person. Once he broke up with someone, he never looked back...

But she was the only one he had ever come crawling back to.

Because now she had the status, the position, and everything he wanted to use.

When he was still at the Fawcett Group, he didn’t need to rely on her. But not anymore. Besides her, he had no one left to depend on.

Now, he had no choice but to compromise, to be with her.

Mia looked at Charles and said, ”If you feel that marrying me is too much to bear, you can leave. I won’t stop you. I won’t force you.”

Charles glanced at her, pushed open the balcony door, and walked out.

He drove for a while, then pulled over and thought about the friends he knew.

Charles picked up his phone and made a call.

Back when he was at the Fawcett Group, as one of its leaders, there were many people who would have shown him respect...
