Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton sat to the side, watching Caleb Summers. She had been in a pretty good mood, especially since Nathan Fawcett had managed to cheer her up last night.

But now, after hearing what Caleb said, Anne felt her mood souring again.

’It would have been better if he hadn’t spoken at all!’

’He’s such a killjoy!’

Nathan Fawcett noticed this too. He looked at Caleb Summers and said, ”You think you know everything, don’t you? Can’t even a delicious breakfast like this shut you up?”

Caleb glanced meekly at Nathan. ”I was just being realistic. All right, I’ll shut up!”

After breakfast, Nathan Fawcett and Caleb Summers went to the office together.

He brought Ian with them!

In the car, Ian was focused on his phone.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb Summers and said, ”I’m warning you. If you ever spout that kind of nonsense in front of your sister-in-law again, you’re not welcome at my house anymore!”

’Anne was already upset because of Master Linden, and Caleb’s words were just adding fuel to the fire!’

Caleb said, ”I was just telling it like it is.”

”If it’s not necessary, then don’t say it!” Nathan said. ”Things are already hard enough for me right now. Do you just enjoy making things worse? Is that fun for you?”

Caleb said, ”You’re right, my mistake! I’ll reflect on it! But... if Master Linden doesn’t approve, what are you going to do?”

”Master Linden hasn’t refused,” Nathan said. ”He just thinks Anne isn’t good enough for me! That’s why his attitude toward her is a bit problematic.”

”Your sister-in-law is actually a great person,” Caleb said. ”Maybe if you just talk it over with Master Linden, things will get better.”

Nathan said, ”Good to know you can actually speak like a person.”

It was rare for something Caleb said to sound so agreeable.

Otherwise, Nathan really would have taken his anger out on him.

Caleb looked at Nathan and said, ”Nathan, what does it feel like to love someone? I can see you care a lot about your sister-in-law!”

”When it feels like the whole world doesn’t understand you, but there’s one person who can give you a warmth no one else can, then you’ll get it. For me, she’s that irreplaceable person!”

To him, Anne Sutton was his destiny.

It was like how he couldn’t be with any other woman, but with her, he could.

It was like how he was incredibly picky with everyone else, but being with her just felt right.

Caleb said, ”Damn, why am I a little envious?”

’I didn’t feel this way before!’

’I just thought Nathan had lost his head!’

Now, seeing how much Nathan Fawcett loved Anne Sutton, he realized he was actually a bit envious. ”Why can’t I find my destined person?”

Nathan Fawcett shot him a look. ”You? As if. Don’t you have any idea what kind of life you lead?”

’No one had a more chaotic lifestyle than him!’

’All the women he found were completely unreliable!’

Caleb coughed, then said pessimistically, ”I’ll be more careful in the future! It’s just... I feel like someone like me will never meet anyone I truly like, no matter what. When it comes to romance, I’ve always been pretty unlucky.”

”...” Nathan said, ”I’m not your relationship counselor. I have no interest in talking about this with you.”

They arrived at the office. Nathan Fawcett went to a meeting, while Ian played in his office.

Previously, when both Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton were at work, he would usually stay with Mrs. Sutton.

But Mrs. Sutton had been sick for the past couple of days and still hadn’t recovered, so they didn’t want him to be a bother.

...

When Anne Sutton arrived at the hospital, she was immediately summoned by Anna Linden.

Anna Linden was sitting in her office. Anne walked in. ”Dr. Linden.”

Anna Linden looked up at her. ”Have a seat.”

Anne Sutton sat down.

Anna Linden said, ”Did you argue with Nathan’s grandfather last night?”

”...” Anne Sutton said, ”We didn’t exactly argue. I just felt he was being too strict with Ian. Ian is still little, and scheduling so many lessons for him... he’s a child, not a tool. Children don’t exist in this world to satisfy the selfish desires of their elders, to be molded into whatever they want to see.”

Anna Linden said, ”That’s just how my father is. He’s always been rather strict when it comes to raising children. I already spoke with him about it last night.”

Anne Sutton said, ”As long as you’ve talked to him, that’s good.”

Anna Linden said, ”He doesn’t have any malicious intent. I know that as a mother, your heart aches for your child, but children need to grow sometimes, too.”

Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden and asked, ”Is this the only reason you called me in here?”

Anna Linden said, ”I was worried this might affect your relationship with Nathan, so I wanted to talk to you about it.”

”Nathan and I aren’t planning to get married anymore,” Anne Sutton said. ”The Linden Family was never a good fit for me. I know my own status, and I know where I stand.”

Anna Linden looked at her. ”Are you serious? You’re not just saying that out of anger, are you?”

”Of course I’m not. Nathan and I discussed it. He agrees with me that getting married is too much of a hassle. The truth is, as long as I don’t marry into the Linden Family, Nathan’s grandfather won’t have such high expectations for me. He won’t see me as just some worthless woman. After all, even if I really were good-for-nothing, it would be none of his business.”

”...” Anna Linden looked at Anne Sutton’s calm expression and said, ”You’re not angry?”

Hearing her words, Anne Sutton said, ”I don’t have the time to get angry over pointless things.”

”As long as you’re not angry, that’s good. It’s good that you’ve thought it through. To be honest, I was really hoping you would bring Ian back to the Linden Family. But you need to be with your mother now, so I won’t force you.”

Anne Sutton said, ”My mother needs company. I want to live with her.”

”That’s fine,” Anna Linden said. ”Go on, get back to work.”

Anne Sutton remained seated, looking at her without moving.

Anna Linden said, ”What is it? Is that stubborn streak of yours acting up again? Are you planning to make a scene in here with me?”

She knew Anne Sutton could have a contrary temper.

Sometimes there was just nothing she could do with her.

But now that she had a good relationship with Mrs. Sutton, she no longer minded when Anne was being willful.

Anne Sutton said, ”Did you call me in here just to show you care about me?”

”I just called you in to ask a few questions,” Anna Linden said. ”I wasn’t concerned about you. You’re overthinking it!”

Anne Sutton smiled. ”Regardless, thank you, Dr. Linden. Thank you!”

Anna Linden sat in her chair, her lips pursed.

Anne Sutton looked at her, then stood up and said, ”I know you’re busy, so I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll get back to work.”

Anna Linden said, ”Mm.”

...

「At noon.」

Master Linden sent someone to the company to invite Nathan Fawcett to bring Ian home for lunch.

Nathan Fawcett didn’t want to go, but after thinking about it, he felt it wouldn’t be right to refuse.

’He and his grandfather weren’t enemies, after all.’

So he took Ian with him.

At home, Master Linden was eating a rather bland diet due to his health.

He had been eating patient’s meals ever since he got sick, and he didn’t seem to have much of an appetite.

Sitting to one side, he saw Nathan Fawcett enter with Ian, and Caleb Summers was with them as well.
