Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Nathan Fawcett came to pick up Anne Sutton. She was exhausted and sat in the car, her face a mask of fatigue.

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”A long day?”

”I had a surgery,” Anne Sutton said. ”I’m a little sleepy.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”You’ve worked hard.”

Anne Sutton asked, ”Where’s Ian?”

”He went back with Caleb Summers,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”Didn’t I come here to pick you up? That little rascal was being so noisy, so I had them go back first.”

”Ian is not noisy at all!”

”But I wanted to talk to you. Wouldn’t it be inconvenient with him around?” He was starting to feel like his son was a third wheel.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, the corners of her lips curving up. ”You’re unbelievable... Oh, right, Charles Prescott came by today!”

”He came to see you?”

”He saw the news about you inheriting the Linden Family. He knows you’re Ethan Linden now!”

”...” Nathan Fawcett said, ”So he finally figured it out. How did he react?”

”It was pretty funny,” Anne Sutton said. ”He must realize now how ridiculous all those things he said before were. He must be so embarrassed!”

After all, he used to see me with Ethan Linden and would go complain to Nathan Fawcett about it!

Thinking back on it now, Charles Prescott probably wanted to dig a hole and bury himself in it.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Well, it’s good that he knows.”

”He seemed pretty scared,” Anne Sutton said. ”Scared you’ll retaliate against him.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It seems he knows he’s done plenty of bad things in the past.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”But your maternal grandfather also came to the hospital today. He saw Charles Prescott and thought there was something going on between us.”

”He didn’t give you a hard time, did he?”

”Not really, but he said something about me getting together with other men. Did you tell him that?”

Recalling those words made Anne Sutton feel a little uncomfortable.

Nathan Fawcett coughed. ”I had lunch with him. I told him that if he keeps this up, you’ll marry someone else someday, and I’ll end up without a wife. He didn’t believe me.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Why would you tell him that? What kind of person does that make me out to be? The way he looked at me... I was seriously speechless. Everyone in your family is so weird. They don’t want me with you, but they can’t stand seeing me with anyone else either!”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”He’s probably afraid I’ll hold him responsible if I don’t have a wife in the future!”

”He took Charles Prescott away with him afterward! I have no idea what happened. Why would your grandfather want to see Charles Prescott?”

The two of them can’t be that familiar with each other.

Anne Sutton couldn’t imagine what they would be doing.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Who cares what they’re doing? My grandfather probably has his own plans.”

Nathan Fawcett had just finished speaking when Anne Sutton’s phone pinged. She opened it and saw that Charles Prescott had sent a resignation letter to her email.

Anne Sutton opened it and, after a glance, said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Charles Prescott has resigned. He says he won’t be staying with the Fawcett Group anymore!”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. ”Wasn’t he obsessed with everything related to the Fawcett Family? Why the sudden decision to leave?”

”He probably realized he’s been a clown and is too embarrassed to stay.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and asked, ”So, what are your thoughts?”

”If he wants to leave, it’s not like I can make him stay. But if he’s gone, who will be in charge of things at the company?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Don’t worry, I’ll send someone to handle it. It’s not a big problem.”

”I’ll get back to Charles Prescott then.”

”Okay.”

With that said, Anne Sutton called Charles Prescott.

It didn’t take long for Charles Prescott to pick up. ”Hello.”

”I saw your resignation letter.”

Charles Prescott was silent for a moment before saying, ”I’ll be leaving the Fawcett Group.”

Anne Sutton asked, ”When do you plan on leaving?”

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, and seeing that she wasn’t even trying to make him stay, Charles Prescott asked, ”You’re eager for me to leave, aren’t you?”

Anne Sutton chuckled. ”If you want to leave, I’m certainly not going to stand in your way!”

”...” Charles Prescott said, ”I’ll leave at the end of this week, after I wrap things up.”

Anne Sutton said, ”In that case, I’ll arrange for someone to take over your duties.”

Charles Prescott asked, ”You have someone in mind?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Yes.”

Hearing her reply, Charles Prescott frowned and then said, ”Fine. You must be very happy now. Because you’ve finally won.”

She was with Nathan Fawcett, and now Nathan Fawcett was the Head of the Linden Family. How could she not have won?

And it was a complete and utter victory.

Anne Sutton said, ”As long as you know. The best decision I ever made in my life was choosing to leave you back then!”

He thought she could never leave him.

He thought she would spend the rest of her life walking on eggshells around him, but he never would have imagined...

Not only did she leave him and choose Nathan Fawcett, but Nathan Fawcett was actually still alive. And he was living a life now that was a thousand times better than Charles could have ever imagined!

Charles Prescott probably didn’t want to hear any more of this, as he quickly hung up the phone.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”He said he’ll leave this week.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I’ll have Noah go over tomorrow.”

”You’re sending Noah Linden?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”He’s very capable. He should be able to handle things over there.”

”I thought you’d send Caleb Summers.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett’s lips curved into a smile as he said to Anne Sutton, ”Caleb Summers has a lot on his plate. He probably wouldn’t want to go to Westhaven by himself anyway.”

Compared to Caleb Summers, Noah Linden was clearly much more obedient.

Anne Sutton asked worriedly, ”Will Noah Linden be willing to go?”

”I’ll discuss it with him when we get home.”

Soon, they arrived back at Anne Sutton’s place.

Caleb Summers was at home looking after Ian, and the two of them were eating fruit.

Seeing Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton walk in, Caleb Summers said, ”You’re back?”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at him, nodded, and said to Anne Sutton, ”I’m going to make a call first.”

”Go ahead. I’ll cook something for you guys.”

Caleb Summers followed Nathan Fawcett upstairs.

...

Charles Prescott was still in his house in Veridia.

Mia Shaw walked in, looked at him, and stopped in front of him. ”You’re leaving the Fawcett Group?”

Charles Prescott glanced at her and nodded. ”Yeah. After all these years, I’m tired too. Sometimes, when you’re too obsessed, you’re the only one who ends up suffering.”

Mia Shaw asked, ”So what are your plans for the future?”

”I don’t have any.” He was exhausted right now and didn’t want to think about it too much.

”Do you want to come work at my boss’s company?” Mia Shaw had told him before that if he had nowhere else to go, he could come to her boss’s company.

Charles Prescott looked at her and said, ”Let’s talk about it later.”

”What do you mean, ’let’s talk about it later’?” Mia Shaw said, ”Charles Prescott, don’t be like this just because of the Fawcett Group! Come to my boss’s company! You won’t be treated poorly! You’re a capable person! Anne Sutton got rid of you because she doesn’t know how amazing you are! You’ll do just fine even after leaving the Fawcett Group!”

Charles Prescott looked at her and said, ”I haven’t even left yet. Why are you in more of a hurry than I am?”

His words angered Mia Shaw. ”It’s because I’m worried about you! I’m afraid you’ll become pessimistic, that you’ll give up on yourself. You know perfectly well how much I like you!”
