Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Now that they had a child, the only thing left was the marriage itself.

Anne Sutton looked at the man before her and said, ”But I’m honestly a little scared.”

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Did you bring his things?”

”I brought Ian’s. They’re in the trunk.”

Nathan Fawcett opened the trunk, took out the bag with Ian’s things, and led Anne Sutton and Ian inside.

Lana Langley was in the living room with her son. Because Nathan Fawcett wouldn’t let her and the child go home, she was filled with resentment and trying to call her husband, but Ryan Linden wasn’t picking up at all.

When she saw Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton walk in, her gaze fell on Anne...

’It’s been a while, but Anne seems even more stunning than before!’

’And look at me... I feel like I’ve gained quite a bit of weight.’

Then she saw Nathan Fawcett beside Anne. To think that Nathan, the Head of the Linden Family, was personally carrying her bag... and not only that, he was following right behind her, speaking so gently.

The contrast made Lana Langley extremely uncomfortable.

She spoke up, ”Well, if it isn’t Anne. You’re back?”

Anne Sutton looked at her and said, ”Sister-in-law, it’s been a while.”

Lana said, ”You were gone for so long, I thought you weren’t planning on ever coming back!”

Hearing her words, Anne Sutton couldn’t quite tell what she was being so passive-aggressive about. She replied, ”Why wouldn’t I come back? I just had some things to take care of. It seems you’ve missed me, Sister-in-law!”

”...” Lana Langley stared at her and said, ”I certainly haven’t missed you! You’ve really been living the good life out there.”

’She used to think there was no way Ethan Linden would marry a widow like her!’

’But now...’

With Nathan Fawcett wanting to marry Anne Sutton, no one else could utter a single word of gossip.

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, ”I’m going to take these things upstairs first.”

”I’ll go with you!” She didn’t want to stay here and get into a war of words with Lana Langley...

’After all, it’s exhausting!’

Anne Sutton followed Nathan Fawcett upstairs. After they put Ian’s things away, she found it felt unfamiliar to be back here after so long.

She said, ”Lana looked really unhappy. What’s wrong?”

”I kept her and her child here and didn’t let them go home,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”She’s fuming about it right now.”

”Why? You didn’t let her go home?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I pissed Ryan Linden off today. If he went home, he would have taken it out on her for sure. So I made her stay.”

”From the looks of it, she doesn’t seem to appreciate it.” ’And he was clearly doing it for her own good!’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Don’t worry about her. It doesn’t matter.”

”Your grandfather didn’t give you a hard time, did he?” Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett.

She knew that Nathan Fawcett had changed his identity now.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and was about to speak when there was a knock on the door. It was the butler, calling them down for dinner.

...

The dining room was lively, with the family filling a large table. Anna Linden was back as well.

Master Linden sat at the head of the table. His hair was almost completely white, but you could tell he must have been very handsome in his youth. Nathan Fawcett probably took after his grandfather...

Master Linden’s gaze first fell on Ian. ”Ian,” he said.

Seeing Master Linden, Ian couldn’t immediately remember what he was supposed to call him. Nathan Fawcett looked at his silly son and said, ”Say, ’Great-grandpa’.”

Ian said, ”Hello, Great-grandpa.”

Master Linden smiled and said, ”Come over to Great-grandpa. Let me get a good look at you. Our Ian seems to have grown a little bigger.”

He had been away convalescing for some time.

And this was an age when children grew especially fast.

Hearing Master Linden’s words, Ian said, ”But I want to sit with my mommy.”

His gaze fell on Anne Sutton, and he glanced at her.

Anne Sutton was speechless.

Ian’s words drew Master Linden’s attention to her as well.

This made Anne Sutton feel a bit awkward.

She had read some rumors about Master Linden online before; in any case, he was a legendary figure.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t nervous.

Anne Sutton said, ”Go say a proper hello to Great-grandpa. Be polite.”

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Ian had no choice but to nod and walk over to Master Linden’s side...

Master Linden had Ian sit down.

His gaze fell on Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton’s hands tightened unconsciously. Just as she was getting nervous, Nathan Fawcett reached out, took her hand, and introduced her to Master Linden, ”Grandfather, this is Anne. She’s also Ian’s mother.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Hello, Mr. Linden.”

’She had originally wanted to call him Grandfather...’

’But it didn’t feel right!’

’After all... she had no idea what the old master thought of her. If he didn’t like her and she called him that, wouldn’t that just be offering her face up for a slap?’

Hearing Anne Sutton’s address, Master Linden frowned slightly and said, ”Sit.”

He looked very stern.

Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton sat down.

Anne Sutton could feel that Master Linden didn’t seem to like her very much, but that was okay.

’She didn’t care about things like that!’

...

Anna Linden, sitting to the side, saw that the atmosphere was a bit awkward and spoke up to Master Linden, ”Dad, Anne is with Nathan now, so she’s basically one of the family. Nathan has also been busy planning their wedding.”

Master Linden’s gaze fell on Nathan Fawcett. He looked at him but didn’t say anything in front of everyone, simply saying, ”Let’s eat.”

Ian sat beside Master Linden, a little disappointed that he couldn’t sit with Anne Sutton.

’Sigh...’

’I really want to sit next to Mommy!’

The meal was very lively.

With Master Linden’s return, everyone was falling over themselves to curry favor.

Ryan Linden wasn’t there, but Lana Langley didn’t miss the opportunity to put in a good word for him with Master Linden.

Master Linden looked at her and asked, ”Does Ryan still hit you?”

The question made Lana Langley freeze. She then forced a smile and said, ”He doesn’t hit me. Where did you hear such gossip, Great-uncle? Ryan and I get along just fine!”

Master Linden looked at Lana Langley’s act but didn’t expose her.

He had known before that Ryan Linden was unreliable, but he was still shocked when he learned that Ryan was physically abusive.

’To think the Linden Family had produced someone like that! It’s outrageous!’

’He had always despised men who hit people!’

’He found Ryan Linden’s actions utterly detestable!’

’But Lana Langley just had to be so spineless.’

’To think she was still covering for Ryan Linden... even speaking up for him at a time like this!’

...

Anne Sutton sat to the side, feeling like this dinner had nothing to do with her, and just ate her food in silence.

After dinner, Ian was called away by Master Linden.

Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett returned to their room.

She said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Your grandfather seems to really like Ian.”

”Of course he does,” Nathan Fawcett replied.

”From the looks of it, he seems to already know you’re Nathan Fawcett,” Anne Sutton said. ”He didn’t yell at you, did he?”

Because Caleb Summers had said before that Master Linden would be angry, Anne Sutton had been worried the whole time.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”No. Actually, Grandfather knew my identity long ago. He wouldn’t say anything about it.”

”Really?” said Anne Sutton. ”Then why didn’t you say so earlier? You had me worried this whole time.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, smiled, and said, ”Ian might not be back for a while. Do you want to take a shower first?”
