I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 242: Chapter 117 Occasionally Online, Old Meng’s Message (5k)_3

His Yang Energy grew stronger and stronger, especially when he practiced boxing. Eighty percent of this Yang Energy was actually wasted. This energy transformed into halos invisible to ordinary people, illuminating everything nearby.

The Yang Energy of a single person suppressed the rising Yin Qi within dozens of meters all around.

Old Zhao stood at the window, routinely basking in the night’s sun. As he soaked it in, his gaze, initially filled with a ’wisdom’ reminiscent of five brothers, gradually deepened.

Does he not know what the glow he radiates when practicing boxing means to the ghost objects? Or does he know and simply doesn’t care? It must be the latter. He really does resemble the legendary first-generation Heavenly Master.

Old Zhao slightly closed his eyes. The profundity in his gaze dissipated as he continued to bask in the sun. The sensation made him feel as if he were alive.

...

In the northwest corner of Divine Land, night had just fallen. Old Meng leaned against a ruined earthen wall, retching out a mouthful of blood mixed with bits of his innards.

He took out a small test tube and swallowed the red Potion inside. As time passed, his complexion gradually improved significantly.

”What a huge loss, a huge loss, such a huge loss...”

The camel standing nearby had a worried look in its eyes.

”Are you okay? You’ve already used your Resurrection Cross. If you die again, will you really be dead? Shouldn’t you prepare something for me in advance? If necessary, I could save you.”

Old Meng looked at the camel and gave a cold laugh.

”Damned beast!”

”Humph, no good deed goes unpunished. You think I’m coveting your treasures? They’re useless to me.”

”Then why do you want a death-substituting wondrous item?”

The camel mumbled indistinctly, its words unclear. Old Meng, somewhat feeble, leaned on the earthen wall and muttered to himself.

You know nothing. For helping him gather intelligence this time, I only charged one Big Yellow Fish, plus a few small yellow fish. This Potion alone is worth more than that. Who knew that the West River Water System, not even amounting to one of the Four Pollutions, would be so chaotic that a single tributary could house several Water Gods? This godforsaken place actually has a real dragon!

”If it’s not a dragon’s Water God, how dare it call itself a Dragon God?” The camel looked at Old Meng as if he were a fool.

”You understand nothing! If every Dragon King Temple actually corresponded to a real dragon, there would be at least eight hundred, if not a thousand, dragons in Divine Land. Especially among the dragons of the water system, those invested with the role of Water God are generally other beings. It’s already impressive if there’s something that can be considered a lesser dragon. The ones that count as true dragons, you could tally them on your fingers. Who would have thought that a Water God in a stretch of the West River would actually be a real dragon! A dragon being just the Water God of a stretch of the river, or even just a tributary—do you understand that? It’s so unreasonable, neither scientific nor mystical!”

Old Meng then took out his phone and called Wen Yan.

”Wen Yan, I... I’ve found a bit of information.”

”Huh, Old Meng, what happened to you?”

Old Meng had been waiting for that question, and he launched into a litany of complaints.

”Of course, it’s not your fault, no one’s to blame. I didn’t expect this either. I thought it was just some oversized, sentient worm, so I tried my usual methods. Who would have thought I’d hit such an impenetrable barrier? The entity was too powerful, its status too high. I was merely hit by the backlash; I almost spat out my entire duodenum and several pieces of my lungs. I shouldn’t be dead yet.”

”Thanks for your trouble. Next time we meet, I’ll have something for you to appraise.”

”Alright, no appraisal fee for you.”

”But, the Dragon God being a dragon, isn’t that how it should be?”

”Illiterate!” Old Meng got so angry that he hung up the phone right away.

He even looked at the camel next to him and cursed it as well.

”You too! Such uneducated illiterates!”

On the other hand, Wen Yan was completely baffled. What did I say?

The sly merchant actually hung up on me, and I hadn’t even mentioned what I wanted to sell. Actually, I was planning to dig out some oil from the Everbright Lamp and sell it to Old Meng. After all, I can’t really fleece him to death; there has to be some legitimate trade. Speaking of which, I’ve always really thought that the Dragon God of the West River was a dragon.

He casually dialed Cai Qidong’s number.

Then, a voice came from the phone, ”Hello, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

The call was rejected.

He tried again, and this time, there wasn’t even a dial tone, just a direct message saying the call could not be connected.

Great, I’ve been blacklisted. Minister Cai is being too petty,

he thought.Less than a minute later, the phone rang. Minister Cai had called him back.

”What time is it? What’s the matter?”

”I have an important question. I’d like to ask you, Minister, about the revived Dragon God in the West River. Is it really a dragon, or is it just called a Dragon God?”

”What do you mean? How could it really be a dragon? Of course, it’s just called a Dragon God. High-status Water Gods of Different Races generally enjoy the honor of being worshipped in Dragon King Temples. Thus, they are called Dragon Gods, signifying their former status and strength. You’re calling in the middle of the night just for this?”

”No, no, no, Minister. I spent a lot of money and hired someone to find out something.”

”What?” Cai Qidong sat up, his irritation from being woken up in the middle of the night now gone.

”That Dragon God, it’s really a dragon.”

”...”

Cai Qidong’s expression changed.

”Really? An actual dragon? How is it just a Water God for a section of the river? Where did you get this information? Are you sure?”

”Bought it.”

”Bought it? Where from?”

Seeing that Wen Yan didn’t speak, Cai Qidong immediately added, ”I’m not trying to probe about that. What I mean is, is it reliable? The department will reimburse you!”

”According to the rules, I can’t casually disclose the source of the information. But, based on my understanding of that person, they wouldn’t sell false information.”

That Old Meng... he’s certainly a sly merchant. But according to Zhuge Wanjun, Old Meng is the type that, even if you curse him, you’d still hold your nose and go to him when you really need something, because Old Meng never sells fakes.

When he was conned into receiving a Toy Magic Wand, it wasn’t considered counterfeit. Old Meng always gave such items away as freebies. He never sold them. Old Meng himself felt that selling such a thing was beneath his dignity.

”Help me ask about other things. Whatever it costs, the department will reimburse it.”

”That’ll probably be quite expensive, at least ten Big Yellow Fish to start.”

As soon as Cai Qidong heard this, he no longer doubted it. He swore loudly and leaped out of bed.

Only that elusive wandering merchant would trade goods using Big Yellow Fish and small yellow fish as currency.
